Dragon Quest XI for Switch titled Dragon Quest XI S [Update]
Published 6 hours ago. 174 comments.

Plus the meaning of the "S."

The Switch version of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be titled Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age S, Square Enix announced during its Dragon Quest Paradise News Station event at Tokyo Game Show 2018.

According to Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii, among the meanings of the “S” in the title are “Switch,” “Special,” “Shaberu” (Speaking), and “Seiyuu” (Voice Actor).

While a release date was not announced, Horii said that it will still take a bit of time before the Switch version is released.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC. In Japan, a 3DS version is also available. The western release of Dragon Quest XI added new features, such as voice acting and dashing, which were not in the original Japanese release.

Thanks, Games Talk.

Update 6:00 a.m.: However, in response to Horii saying “Shaberu,” Dragon Quest XI producer Hokuto Okamoto added, “Even though shaberu (speaking) will be taking priority… I think there are some players who would prefer Dragon Quest without voices, and we’re keeping that in mind. Horii will be able to say more about that at some point…”

Thanks, Famitsu.

Dragon Quest XI Devs Say Switch Version Will Still Take A While; Why The 3DS Version Was Skipped. October 1, 2018 . 5:00pm

Dragon Quest XI director Takeshi Uchikawa and producer Hokuto Okamoto were featured in Part 1 of the DQXI Dev Team Interview, where they answered questions from fans around the world.42 comments Read >

Dragon Quest XI director Takeshi Uchikawa and producer Hokuto Okamoto were featured in Part 1 of the DQXI Dev Team Interview, where they answered questions from fans around the world.

Uchikawa and Okamoto start out with an introduction and they answer the first question about their respective roles and working with creator Yuji Horii, artist Akira Toriyama, and composer Koichi Sugiyama in the development of Dragon Quest XI.

The next question asks how long it takes to develop a game of Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest VIII’s scale, to which they gave an estimate of it taking about as long as the time between when the Olympics ends and the next Olympics starts.

When asked how involved is the Japanese development team with the Western localization process, director Uchikawa discussed the major policy about localizing Dragon Quest XI, which was to ensure that the world view is more naturally accepted by everyone. This involved working on incorporating a sense of regionality as well as appropriate character settings.

From there there are proposals to revise certain aspects, such as character names. Everything goes into consideration and is reviewed by the Japanese development team, including Yuji Horii and Uchikawa. Producer Okamoto then talks about the different accents you might hear in Dragon Quest, and the work that goes behind it.

Lastly, they’re asked about to share some information on the Switch version, or if the game was going to be coming out on 3DS in the West. The team is still in the midst of development for the Nintendo Switch version, including the Japanese version. Producer Okamoto says “In working on the title, we expect the development to still take quite some time. Therefore, we did our best to get the PS4 and PC versions in everyone’s hands as early as possible counting from its release in Japan, so we hope everyone enjoys Dragon Quest XI on PS4 and PC first.”

He followed with a quote for the 3DS version, “Next, for the Nintendo 3DS version, the PS4 and PC versions, currently announced for release, and the Nintendo 3DS version differ quite a bit when it comes to the overall construction of the game. In considering the release of the 3DS version, along with the PS4 and PC versions, in the West, it unfortunately didn’t meet the conditions needed from a business perspective, and we had to give up on the 3DS release.”

Unfortunately it didn’t work out, but there was a big part of the developers that wanted to show off the new Dragon Quest story with pretty visuals, so they felt that the PS4 and PC versions would be appealing for the new audiences, and that’s how they decided to release on those two platforms alone.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is available for PlayStation 4 and PC worldwide. The Nintendo 3DS version is available in Japan, and the Switch version is in development. Check out our previous report on how to replace the game’s midi music for an orchestral score performed by the Toky o Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

Square Enix on Dragon Quest IX for smartphones, Dragon Quest X offline version
Published 19 hours ago. 32 comments.

Yuu Miyake wants to tell MMORPG's stories to overseas players.

DQIX-X_10-09-18.jpg

The topics of a smartphone version of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies and an offline version of Dragon Quest X came up during the “Chou Dragon Quest X TV: Fall no Bunkasai 10-Hour Special 2018” held today in Japan.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies for Smartphones

According to Dragon Quest series executive producer Yuu Miyake, the Tag Mode functionality of the DS version of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, which was one of the main reasons it was such a big hit, has become a bottleneck in the production of a smartphone version, as it is difficult to reproduce on smartphones. However, convenient tools have recently been introduced that give hope to the development of a smartphone version, with Miyake saying, “I’m starting to see us being able to do it.”

Be that as it may, completely reproducing the Tag Mode functionality of the DS version would seemingly be difficult, as Miyake said that “it wouldn’t be in the same form as DS or 3DS.” As for whether the prospect of offering a similar experience has come up, Miyake said, “I’m starting to see us being able to do something.” Miyake also mentioned that with the Dragon Quest series lineup on smartphones being as substantial as it is, he would like Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies to join.

Offline Version of MMORPG Dragon Quest X

Former Dragon Quest X producer Yosuke Saito, who stepped down from the position on August 25, said, “Even within the traditional Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest X is packed with excellent stories,” then added, “Talk of an offline version often comes up, and I don’t think the possibility is zero. It would be great if we could introduce it to fans to play somewhere.”

Miyake followed up on Saito, explaining that “Overseas, Dragon Quest X has not been released” and “3DS was also not as prevalent overseas, and there are people going from Dragon Quest VIII to XI.” Miyake showed a strong desire to develop an offline version of the game, saying, “Since Dragon Quest X has tons of rich stories, I would like to make something that can tell those stories, including to players overseas.”

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is currently available for DS worldwide, while Dragon Quest X is available for PlayStation 4, Switch, Wii U, 3DS, and PC in Japan.

This is some news that's going to make a lot of Nintendo Switch owners happy, since Square Enix has finally released a trailer for the highly anticipated Dragon Quest XI: Ehoes of an Elusive Age for the Nintendo Switch.

While Dragon Quest XI: Ehoes of an Elusive Age was already released for the PlayStation 4 and Steam back in September of this year(and over a year earlier in Japan), the Nintendo Switch version of the game was pushed back quite a few times.

In fact, Square Enix's Dragon Quest XI: Ehoes of an Elusive Age was one of the first titles to be officially announced for Nintendo's handheld hybrid console, when the Switch was in early stages of development and hadn't even been given an official name yet.

Now that Square Enix has finally released a trailer for Dragon Quest XI: Ehoes of an Elusive Age on the Nintendo Switch, we get a better idea at how the game will look like when it releases. On that same note, the trailer also confirms that Dragon Quest XI: Ehoes of an Elusive Age will finally be releasing in 2019.

Although the developer failed to give us an official release date or even an estimate, it is still great news for fans who have been waiting for a long time for Dragon Quest XI: Ehoes of an Elusive Age to release on the Nintendo Switch.

Take a look:

DRAGON QUEST® XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age™ tells a captivating tale of a hunted hero and is the long-awaited role-playing game from series creator Yuji Horii, character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama.

Dragon Quest XI: Ehoes of an Elusive Age for the Nintendo Switch is expected to release in 2019.

It was one of the best in the series, if not the best one I've played and I've played through them all except 10. Even before this new 'upgraded edition on Switch' business, the one on PS4 was full of content. The only things I have to ding it for was the difficulty being too easy on default and the music, not only the sound quality but the new compositions weren't as good. It's time for Sugiyama to hang it up and let someone like the Ni No Kuni & Studio Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi take over.
