Drunk driver kills 4 year old child. Child's mother may face jail time.

WTF?

How about puting the man who killed the child behind bars!

The drunk driver, who was also on prescription drugs and is blind in one eye..and has a history of hit and runs...was given a few years. The mother who dared allow her son to get struck by a drunk driver is actually facing a longer sentence.

The prosecutor never should have brought the charges...the jury should have declared the charges unreasonable (a jury not only determines guilt, they also are there to judge the law and application of it)

I don't understand....how is the mother guilty of homicide by vehicle?

Um, I am beyond confused by this. This is quite possibly the most re re thing I have ever read.

Well it's partly her fault but you would think a multiple traffic offender would face a harsher sentence .

Well I can't speak for Georgia but where I was raised, pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way, even if jaywalking.

But that's what I'm saying, where I'm from, she wouldn't be at fault, even jay walking.

if she did'nt jaywalk the DRUNK driver still would of hit her son

insane i read the drunk driver is getting 6 months

How did they manage to get an entire jury full of people who have 'never taken public transportation before'?

I don't know but they need to put those people on a city bus.

I'd back any politician, regardless of party, who has the guts to strengthen drug/alcohol offense laws to the proper level. Anyone who kills someone while driving drunk, for instance, should get mandatory life in prison with no chance of parole.

Wow... I mean... Wow...

We don't have jaywalking over here. In England, you cross the road wherever you want... Your just careful, and so are drivers on the road.

That's why they have low speed limits in residential areas. That's why your taught to look, look and look again before crossing. That's why driving tests include a part that is just about spotting obstacles that MIGHT be a danger.

That man is a danger to himself and more importantly others. This ruling is doing NOTHING to discourage him from doing it again... He's not even being treated as the criminal, but as the victim of circumstance.

But what he did was a crime even before he took a life.

This is absolutely the point where I say **** the system, **** the entire way of handling justice. I don't believe in it anymore.

What the hell!? That's some ****ed up ****... And this is why Canadians make fun of the American Judicial system.

I used to live pretty close to where this happened. I can say, it is insane to try and cross that street even at a crosswalk. This link has a picture of the location.

You certainly take your life in your hands when you do. But, that does not justify what they are doing to her. She's lost her son. I think that's more suffering then anyone should have to go through. The driver should be the one getting locked up, and for far more than the 3 years they want to put her away for.

So we got ourselves a new trend huh? We gotta get upset about people that keep getting off light. Welcome to the world late risers!

How about we start with the Bankers, BP, etc....?

Nah, this will do

This story is ridiculous. Only in America though.

But a few years back I was working at a hotel in CT and one of our guests crossed the road in front of the hotel and was clipped by a car. Not life threatening mind you. An ambulance came to take her to the hospital, but not before she was given a ticket for Jaywalking.

I can see her getting a jay walking ticket, even so far as to say I can see her getting charged with child endangerment for trying to cross that kind of road at night, but dear lord, letting the drunk driver off and charging her for vehicular manslaughter? Disgusting. Its like charging the victims parents in a school shooting - they "made their student attend that school, so its your fault they were killed". Absolutely disgusting.

This reminds me of another article (from the UK) I read earlier in the week were 6 guys (17-21) had group sex with two 12 year old girls (one was willing, the other was forced). The guys got off on rape charges because they claimed the "girls told them they were 16". Even if BOTH girls were willing, that is still 6 ADULT MEN having group sex with TWO CHILDREN, and yet they got nothing.

I didn't even know jay walking was really crime until I was like 17. I always thought it was a myth or just something they talked about on TV shows.
