DuckTales 2017

Only thing I Ducktales needs to fix is have a less haphazard schedule with no month-long gaps between episodes. I don't know if that's because it's time-consuming to animate an episode like this, but the long breaks is the only strike against this show, in my opinion.

The showrunner has mentioned that there won't be any more big gaps for the rest of the year, and that the new season will even start sometime this fall.

So do we think Lena...

...who was Magica's shadow (reminds of the original animated series episode) is an aspect of who Magica used to be a long time ago before she was corrupted? Interesting to think about.

Della was on the moon but Scrooge never found her? That's kind of contrived so they'll have to make it so that she made her way back to the moon from wherever she was originally or time travel or some other explanation.

Both of those will likely get explained in season 2. The second one for sure. I think the first one is right, second spoiler, would be hard to miss if that was always the case.

Yeah I really hated how long episodes were apart from each other during Season 1.

I mean, if there's a justifiable explanation for it, fine, but I'd be curious to know what it is. Were they still working on some episodes while the first season was airing? Could the third season renewal be because the production is much smoother now? All baseless speculation on my part, but I would be interested in hearing why there were such big gaps between episodes in the first season.

And if that will happen again.

I just binged this over the weekend. Up to episode 15 now. I never watched the old series or read comics before, so I went into this with zero expectation and... It. Is. So. Adorable? Tennant's authentic Scottish accent is too endearing and I love the chemistry between the characters.

Just finished episode 15 and, like, I get a very clear Sherlock/ Irene (in BBC Sherlock) or Doctor/ River vibe between Scrooge and Goldie, to the point that within 5 minutes I wondered whether Steven Moffat wrote this episode. I don't know whether Moffat's A Scandal in Belgravia is cliche or full of tropes or anything, but episode 15 has a very similar structure with ASiB: 2 characters met and were fascinated with each other (less so in DuckTales), the woman broke into the man's private home, they teamed up (in case of ASiB it was Sherlock solving the MoD man's code for Irene), then it turned out that the woman worked for the villain from the very start, but it was still revealed that she had feelings for the man (Irene's password being SHER and Goldie saving Scrooge). The woman died, but, plot twist, she actually did Not, and the episode ended with the man looking at the a "gift" left by the woman.

Really looking forward to the rest of the season now. And thankfully season 2 is only a couple of weeks away.

With animation, the renewals are pretty much determined much before the actual season airs. The lead time is extremely long. The renewals are pretty much when they get the okay to begin the production of a season. The big gaps last season primarily have to do with the channel change, though. You generally get a batch of episodes followed by a long wait.

At least with Season 1, there weren't frequent lengthy gaps. The first half of the season aired largely together and then there was a long gap and then the second big block of episodes (with a couple of weeks off in June). Some cartoons will run a couple of episodes take two months off run another couple of episodes take another month off and so on. That makes it really tough to watch. So I've seen much worse than what happened with Ducktales.

[looks at Steven Universe...]

I loved the adventure Gyro and Launchpad were having off-screen. That was hilarious.

I noticed they added Magica to the opening.

Oh, that's the biggest tease of all. Launchpad meets an "old friend" and has a massive, Aquaman-esque adventure off-screen? Major tease, Ducktales.

And nice that we get an episode dedicated to Huey and Dewey in one episode. Hopefully we get more Fethry, not just for Tom Kenny, but because he'd be a great recurring character to have pop in on occasion.

I think we probably needed that dynamic without Louie there snarking at how everything is going to fall apart. They both are two sides of the same coin except Huey is more Sheldon Cooper-ish at times with his exploration while Dewey just likes to go out there and let **** happen.

Plus it made for a good gag at the end where they were going to blame the whole thing on Louie, despite him not being in the episode.

I liked how they made Fethry actually fairly intelligent and competent. He's wacky and eccentric, but he's not a bumbling moron.

I love Launchpad offscreen Adventures to I just wish we would get to see some of them.
