Dumb & Dumber 2-Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Return

I doubt Carrey filmed Kick-Ass 2 with the opinion that violence is bad. People are allowed to change their opinions, it doesn't make them *****es.
Yup, I agree, but again, how much of his salaries that were "bad" did he donate?

I feel it makes him a *****e cause he read the script, shot the movie, and cashed the paycheck. THEN he spoke out against the movie and its violence even though he knew all along what kind of film it was. If he TRULY felt bad he coulda donated the bulk, if not all, of his paycheck to benefit the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting

Thats just me though

So it's not possible AT ALL that Carrey had a change of heart against violence in film AFTER he did the movie? You have to consider all avenues. For one, it doesn't make any logical sense for Carrey to have done it and be against violence. There's also no other motivation for doing so in the first place so the assumption that he was makes no sense.

Nobody is telling anybody to turn back time. They're saying that a sequel has been too long to be relevant, hence, the age in the actors now.

The characters can age. Why is that a problem for you in the first place? The film also was not a zeitgeist thing, so talk of relevancy doesn't matter. It just worked on many levels as a comedy and it was brilliantly executed, and that's why it was popular.

So it's only a cash cow if a movie has had over 5 movies in the series? Not that the sequel is just now coming out 20 years later with both the actors and directors/writers track record? Hmmm, funny way of looking at it, I guess?

My meaning is that the movie hasn't been making a steady form of profit in 20 years so why even call it a cash cow? The prequel that came out made about 7 million dollars more than its own budget compared to first film's 111 million dollar take home. The brand name isn't a cash cow.

So what will be the excuse then if he does another movie that has violence in it? I assume this movie will have violence. If he's suddenly had this change of heart, why not speak out against it?

Carrey hasn't shown any shift in his views since then that I've heard of. No other outspoken protests or comments. Nothing that says this was more than a knee-jerk reaction or publicity stunt.

So far the first pic of them on set has them looking like they are 50 years old.

Um, Jim Carrey is 51 and Jeff Daniels is 58. How are they supposed to look?

He probably has more of a problem with the glorification of hyper-violence in the Kick Ass films than just violence itself. There's a pretty big difference in tone between these two violent scenes:
[YT]szPQoqjjRcA[/YT]
[YT]2lsRVla8BA8[/YT]

One says "this guy is an idiot and this fight is ridiculously hilarious" and the other says "this guy is a badass and this fight is awesome"

But I agree it's completely possible that his Kick-Ass dissing was just a knee jerk reaction and he might jump back on the "violence is just fine" train. We shall see.

Really, any way you look at it, Kick-Ass is highly inappropriate, if only for the fact that a 13 year old girl is slaughtering people with blades. It's kind of a miracle those two movies even got made, because this certainly isn't the era where people are asking for that.

Carrey should've known, and he did know, if he saw the first film. I highly doubt that he randomly signed on for a sequel if he didn't see the first one. Not to mention, he read the damn script.

So, in that regard, I don't agree with Carrey bashing the film... but I do believe in a change of heart. I've changed my mind on a million things, but to actually bash the movie you knew you signed up for, that I don't agree with.

Anywho, Dumb & Dumber To is going to be awesome. :yay:

Carrey has said that he was a big fan of the first, was one of the reasons he wanted to sign-on for the sequel

It does when you go on a campaign against the movie you just filmed. No one suddenly has the opinion that movie violence is bad after filming a violent movie. That makes zero sense. Violence isn't some new contraption that no one knows nothing about. That's like me eating an entire Big Mac value meal and then saying how that was bad for my health and so now I am against McDonald's. He read the script, he filmed those scenes. There are horrific shootings and mass murders every single year. Aurora theater shooting? That didn't touch his heart where a guy came into a violent movie and shot up the theater calling himself the Joker (a violent character)? I have lost all respect for Carey over the past few years and he was basically my idol in the 90s.

It's just too long of a time lapse between movies. They go from looking late 20's early 30's to 50's going on 60. It's a shell shock to see actors from a movie you love doing a sequel where they look nothing like the movie you love.

That's quality nonsense you've cooked up there, chase. Well done.

Here's the real test...if this was Vegas...would the odds be better on betting that this movie will be good or bad?

Also, how many good/great sequels are there with an actual time lapse of 20+ years?

Another aspect which is probably not something many people want to bring up but when you see people around that age early 60's even in daniels case acting the way they do in the first movie, you might actually think more early onset dementia or senility than them just being dumb?

I said a while ago this movie might actually look kind of sad. These guys probably should have left the characters young (ish) and dumb.

Apparently this is how it goes: he was switching channels one day, and Dumb & Dumber was on, he watched it, and after that he called one of the Farrelly brothers with a "that's a good movie, let's make a sequel". That was the start point, and later on -a couple of weeks ago- Carrey said at the Ellen show that after all this time without doing sequels (his only one is Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls) he just accepted the fact that there were lots of fans of that movie, so he went on board for part 2.

Big fan of Kick-Ass, it's why he signed on for the sequel

i thought it was moronic what Carrey did with the whole Kick-Ass 2 situation. cry baby.

I think you guys are being a little harsh on Carrey. True, his little KA2 thing was uncalled for,and he did know what he was signing up for, but he didn't outright condemn the movie. Now, that being said, he has gone a little off the edges these past few years...

Especially when he was with Jenny McCarthy and on the very much discredited vaccines cause autism movement. I think the damage done there was more important but overshadowed.

I still can't believe there are people taking medical advice from a woman who got famous for looking good naked.

I think that's kinda the point too. 20 years later and they're still stupid, still wearing the same clothes, and probably still without 'food, jobs... and the pets' heads are still falling off'.

Well she parlayed that into a spot on the view where she can now indoctrinate a whole new set of people with her dangerous ideas.

Some new set photos taken from Marietta Square, Atlanta this morning:

Those set pics have me laughing, this is the character Carrey was born to play.

I love how he's getting the same facial expressions and body movements.

Yeah its like he is just picking up where he left off with the character.

Judging from the photos it looks like Lloyd has a daughter (probably long lost daughter). And he's doing his "Hey... how about a hug!" from the first movie.
