Duncan Jones' Warcraft

I can see why Duncan Jones hired Simon Duggan as the cinematographer. He really knows how to light up greenscreen sets well, in order to make the composites look as feel real and seamless.

Watch this 'Before and Afer' footage for the Great Gatsby. I was shocked how real some of the greenscreen looked. It's amazing. Along with ILM, Jones will make Warcraft look beautiful and real.

Directly from Legendary, Toby Kebbell, & Rob Kazinsky are also joining the cast:

I'm actually very happy for Rob Kazinsky. If you recall, he was suppose to play Fili in The Hobbit, but had to drop out only weeks before the shoot for personal reasons. Then Legendary hooked him up with not just Pacific Rim but this too. Not bad.
Frankly, now I think the roles of the dwarves, except Thorin, were not good career choices for any one. They are window dressing most of the times, they all look similar, people don't even remember their names, they hardly have lines and they all blend in together.

Atleast people remember him for Pacific Rim and True Blood and will now recognize him in this. So its been good for him.

Not to forget he shot 300: Rise Of An Empire which has even more green screen than The Great Gatsby and might be closer to Warcraft aesthetic.

It just amazed me that the exterior shots of the mansion in 'Gatsby' was pretty much all CGI or just a piece of a set. Even the windows were CG. The only thing real was maybe when they had to location shots of the lawn, but even then that gets CGIed. Well done.

I like several of the actors that have been cast so far. Good start.

Can anyone tell me if there is a lead in the story or is it an ensemble piece?

Will one of the male actors cast be the main hero?

It's hard to say at this point. I always thought it would be Travis Fimmell. I could be wrong though. I would love it if Ben Foster was the lead. He rarely gets to, usually doing the 'character actor' parts that tends to steal the show. Not a bad thing of course.

Foster doesn't fit the Hollywood 'leading man' mold, he's not traditionally handsome or a big muscular guy. Fimmell fits it better. Cooper and Kazinsky also don't have much leading man experience. So the lead might fall to Fimmell by default. Though Cooper and Kazinsky are also very good and should be ready to step up should the lead role fall to them.

I feel like Cooper has about as much leading man experience as Fimmell, if not more. He's been the romantic lead in several movies/TV productions and had a buzzed-about noteworthy lead performance in The Devil's Double. That said, I do agree Fimmell is a more likely lead in this instance, as Cooper's not so much an action guy.

Great casting additions.

Rob Kazinsky lets his nerd flag fly. If Kazinsky improves his american accent he would make a good daredevil.

Cooper was fantastic in The Devil's Double, absolutely fantastic. And I think he can be an action guy, he can certainly look like an action hero, he has gotten shredded in the past when the role required.

Yeah, there could be several main characters in this (like in LOTR), which is probably a good thing. I don't know the story of Warcraft all that well, so no idea on who anyone as playing. I like all of the actors involved though. I didn't watch much of Vikings, but I really like Fimmel, and the other actors have been great in pretty much everything they've done. I thought Cooper should have gotten an Oscar nom for the Devil's Double; he was phenomenal in that movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dominic Cooper as Ian Fleming in the mini series about his younger years.

Teaser Trailer

Dominic Cooper plays James Bond creator Ian Fleming in Sky Atlantic and BBC America‘s Fleming. The biopic takes a no holds barred look at the 007 master and his early life set against the permissive society of war-torn WWII London. Per BBC America, Cooper will play him as a man “whose real life was as exciting, eventful and sexually charged as his famous creation.” The four-part mini debuts next year in the U.S. and the UK

Even LOTR overall story had only 3 leads really - Frodo, Gandalf and Aragorn, rest were supporting.

I agree absolutely. But he is small fry. Say DiCaprio had given that exact same performance, he would have been nominated and probably even won. But that's how the Oscars work. They are actually quite insider.

Last I touched Warcraft, it was ~1998 and I was playing Tides of Darkness, and attacking my friend with dragons and cannon towers.

I hope I can still enjoy the movie.

Yeah, that is disappointing. Don't get me wrong, most of the performances that are put up there every year are very good, but I do agree that they completely ignore certain actors because they just aren't big enough or it isn't "their year."

I frankly think most of what they nominate or award is pretty bad.

He's out! He didn't make or break the project for me, personally.

Not to say he's NOT talented, though he's talented when he wants to be.

Good. At least Paula Patton is in this film.

Although it does confirm she will not return for Mission Impossible 5.

It's so weird because I actually think Collin is very talented. But he's not the type I would vouch either. Anytime I see a good performance out of him, I'm always surprised even though I shouldn't be. He does have a stigma that he hasn't gotten rid of, for me anywhere, where as Matthew McConaughey and to a certain extent Ben Affleck (mostly for his directing) have won me over.

And yeah, Paula probably won't be in Mission 5. But I don't see why they have to shoot so damn early for MI 5 especially with its release date. It's not Star Wars or Warcraft where it'll need a long post-production.

Universal has a full plate in 2015. Plus they have other things to worry about with their one major franchise (Fast and Furious).
