Great news, because WoW is not a story, it´s a universe, which means you can do whatever you want with it, from epic trilogies, to dramatic stand alones, from the war between humans and orcs, you can do it all.

At the 76th Annual Academy Awards, legendary director Steven Spielberg handed out the Best Picture statue to The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. It was the first fantasy film to ever win the top Oscar, and Spielberg heaped praise on the picture and its director, Peter Jackson, both during and after the ceremony. "It's a great day for fantasy and fantasy fans," he told reporters at the post-awards press conference.
Spielberg's comments seemed ironic, as he himself has never directed a high-fantasy movie. Though his futuristic sci-fi efforts are myriad, including War of the Worlds and Minority Report, the closest he has ever come to fantasy are the supernatural-themed Indiana Jones adventures, the schmaltzy romance Always, and the children's film Hook.
So when reports attributed to Variety claimed that Spielberg was getting onboard the recently announced World of Warcraft movie, it struck many as the perfect fit. Besides being an avid gamer who attends E3 every year, Spielberg has also had a long-term relationship with Universal Pictures, which used to be a subsidiary of media conglomerate Vivendi. Vivendi is the current owner of WOW developer-publisher Blizzard Entertainment.
Alas, like so many things that sounded too good be true, the Spielberg rumor was just that. Today's issue of Variety contains no articles on a WOW movie, and there's no article in its archives where Spielberg mentioned being involved in the project. By the afternoon, several sites like Joblo had retracted the rumor, although others continued to parrot is as gospel.
For its part, Blizzard would only say no World of Warcraft director has yet been chosen. "No final determinations have been made at this time," a rep told GameSpot. "We're working closely and carefully with [production company] Legendary Pictures on ensuring that the team that forms around this epic production will be equipped to fully capture the Warcraft universe on film. We look forward to revealing further details about the cast and crew in the months ahead."

I posted this in another thread the other day.
But it does deserve it's own thread.
I don't think this has been confirmed yet though.

Nah, it isn't for me. I loved Lord of the Rings and liked Narnia, but I have never liked WOW.

this is the story about Spielberg as director right?
It was confirmed as bogus... for now at the bottom

I thought that you were refering to the WoW movie, not Spielberg as director...
But Steven is an avid gamer, so, he can very well be producing it (if not directing), which would kick major ass

It would kick more than ass.
And your right, the story could be about anything, but I hope that blizzard releases a new expansion pack that takes place during the story.
OMG Imagine if the war kicked into full gear in the film, and it continued in the game.

it's not real?

that's too bad. brandon routh's going to be pissed.

If he wanted to be in it. I'm all for it. I wanna be in it too. who wouldn't?

I just found that article on slash film.
He would be awesome as a human warrior, or maybe a paladin.

Uwe Boll is so on this.
If he even mentions it, i'm driving to hollywood or where he hides and i'm gonna kill him. I'll go to jail, but at least the world would not have to put up with his S*** any more.

hmm, it would've been interesting to see Spielberg portray a fantasy universe like this one.

Jackson would be a perfect fit. but then he's already doing Halo right?

Why would he be pissed?

harry from aicn was interviewing routh, and he mentioned this wow movie, and routh was all giddy about it, apparently he's very big a fan of wow, and would love to star in the movie.

I'd rather see star craft than war craft... but both material has been used many times before in the past... it's just too LOTRish and is destined not to succeed... even STar craft (greatest PC game of all time in my opinion) is material that has already been explored many times... love the games... but it can't work on the big screen again and again and again...

He's just producing Halo, but I'd rather see another director take on WoW. Not that I don't like Jackson, I'd just rather see a different directors take on fantasy. Spielberg would be nice, but he already has a lot of projects lined up.

I really hope this is an adaptation of the first game...or maybe the first 2 games...have the Orcs, Goblins, and Trolls show up, drive the humans out of Azeroth after there king and lead general are killed, escape to Lordearon where they meet up with the Elves, Gnomes, and other humans and beat the Orcs into submission, and enslaving them, setting up a Warcraft 3 adaptation
