Well I'm glad that the post-production is long. More movies need to have a decent post-production schedules so it won't look like poo when it comes out.

The post-production schedule won't be longer. They will have a limited amount of money for it, and when that runs out, they will be done. Even if that is August.

The date has everything to do with trying to avoid the big films of 2015, though now they are stuck with BvS.

Duncan Jones On More "Warcraft" Films

By Garth Franklin Tuesday January 6th 2015 02:36PM
We're still some time away from "Warcraft," Duncan Jones' film adaptation of the popular "World of Warcraft" online video game franchise for Legendary Pictures. With the project still very much in post-production, the "Moon" and "Source Code" helmer recently took some time out to speak a bit about the film and how it will split the focus between humans and orcs.
Speaking with Chinese news site MTime (via MMM), Jones says that dual focus is key to making the property work:
“A Warcraft film should not be about a good race of humans battling an evil race of orcs! Warcraft should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid a conflict, when villains leave them no choice.”
He indicates the film opens with the 'first contact' meeting between the two races, which gives an entry point to those unfamiliar with the franchise:
“From the moment I first talked to Blizzard, the plan was to start our film with the first time Orcs met Humans. First contact! I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about Warcraft… it was important that some of our characters would be seeing the world fresh as well, and that the audience could see the situation through their eyes.”
He also hopes the film itself will be the start of its own franchise, one that could lead to much more than just this one film:
“Peter Jackson did a magnificent job of ‘setting the table’ for Tolkein’s universe with his first Lord of the Rings film. I know that my job in this first film is to establish certain characters, places and culture while telling a story that a broad audience can be excited by! Hopefully, if I have done my job right, people will want to know and see more! There is certainly plenty more to tell! …I would love to be part of that process of expanding on the lore that makes up Warcraft, but it will all depend on what you, the audience, think of our first film!”

Sounds great, though i hope they don't leave too many open doors for sequels, and instead give something complete.

Haven't heard anything on this in a while, just checking back in. Curious, for those who have seen the Comic Con footage, how did Fimmel's and Foster's characters look? I'm surprised we haven't gotten a look at either of them yet, since we've seen Cooper and Ogrim.

Whoops... sorry, man. I forgot the golden rule: never bump a thread unless you have actual news. :(

Warcraft has been pushed from March 11, 2016 to June 10, 2016.

I also think Universal senses that Sony won't have their Uncharted film ready to go, so that's why they moved Warcraft to June. Plus they needed a June release after they moved The Mummy to 2017.

A few interesting comments from the director regarding the release change via his Twitter page:

Daniel Salamanca ‏@Salamanca32
@ManMadeMoon @Jackster006 Or in developmental hell?

Duncan Jones ‏@ManMadeMoon
@Salamanca32 @Jackster006 considering we're already grading the picture & mixing the final sound... No. Not development hell. ;)

Seeing as they are this far along it makes me wish they could have just bumped it up to November.

This film is going to sit on the shelf for over a year. When is that ever good for a film like this?

According to Legendary CEO Thomas Tull, the movie will have twenty months of post-production in order to 'get it right.' They have eight more months to work on it. The production wrapped last May, so unless ILM has been turning out final CGI shots more rapidly, the film probably won't be done until early 2016.

Just because they're doing sound mixing and color correction doesn't mean they're close to being done. They're likely mixing scenes that don't require VFX.

Yeah, what about any of that rings true? That was like saying MoS got extra post when it was delayed. It is studio speak. Do you know how much 20 months of post-production would cost? And I am talking legit post. Not a small team, but a legit SFX studio working on a film for 20 months. That is Avatar money.

So painfully obvious, that it kind of hurts. Now that doesn't mean the movie will suck. I think it has a very good chance of being good, but they keep delaying it because they realize how irrelevant it is. That can't compete with other legit releases. That doesn't mean it is going to get unheard of post-production.

We haven't seen any footage, we don't know for sure whether Legendary/Universal is looking to cut their losses or whether they're looking for the best possible spot.

I thought more people would be happy about Warcraft moving to June, it means the studios are confident it can play as a summer blockbuster.

Up against James Bond and The Hunger Games? That's not a good spot.

Anyway I have no idea what the studio thinks of the film, it's difficult to know.

All I know is that The Lord of the Rings is pretty much the only big fantasy film that is critically and financially successful and there is no good videogame movie. So yeah I hope it's good but I'm not going to get my hopes up too high.

I feel like moving it to June shows that they are confident in the movie. If they were concerned that it was a turd, they would have bumped it to February.

I agree. As one of the people at Blizzard pointed out, this would work better as a summer movie than a spring movie. It has the tentpole potential behind it.

It shows confidence indeed, and guys........ the movie is on an Avatar level VFX wise (ie the scope, sheer volume of CG work), Jones constantly mentions the work ILM is doing on Twitter and it's pretty clear that it's not a small feat. More time to polish it: the better.

Yeah, two things will make this movie work: stellar special effects, and a good story. Up until this point, no video game-based films have had either one so if it takes a while to get it right, I have no problem with that.

I do hope we get a trailer soon though.

And it took James Cameron, the master of special effects, like a decade to get that movie made. So no, I'm not worried about this movie as of yet.

Yeah I know but I wish it had the room in November. That's the only thing that I regret about Marvel and Star Wars. Marvel owns most of the major months and now Star Wars is back and owns whichever month it's in. Any other movie that isn't star wars or marvel is going to have fight for space and sometimes films like this own will just have to sit on a shelf until a space opens a year or two down the road. This is just the beginning.

As marvel continues to expand and blockbuster season expands we are going to see this happening more and more. Studios will make a big budget film and it will have to set on the shelf for a year or two because the only space open is a couple years down the road. I mean **** look at pirates of the Caribbean 5. It's shooting now and doesn't come out until July 2017. This shot last year and doesn't come out until June 2016.

Like DarthSkywalker pointed out, and I share his concerns, letting a finished film set on a shelf is a bit like leaving a cake in the oven for too long. The consequences can be unpleasant. It gives all involved too much time to tinker with and second guess the film. It gives the suits too much time to screen the film with every BS focus group, and "recommend" changes.
