Duncan Jones' Warcraft

People don't have to be a part of a preexisting fanbase to go see a movie.

I've never played Warcraft in my life (don't think I've ever even seen the gameplay before), and I'm interested in this movie because I'm always up for a good fantasy epic and Duncan Jones is one of my "Directors to Watch." If it looks good, I'll see it. I'm sure there are plenty of other non-gamer audiences who will do the same.

I played World of Warcraft for 7 years before I finally stopped back in March. My reasons for stopping were not so much that the game was bad, but when you spend so much money into something (monthly fee, expansions etc) it eventually starts feeling like something you HAVE to do, rather than something you WANT to do. I'll never play a subscription-game again, because I feel like I enjoy other games more, because I can put them away when I want, and bring them out when I want, and there's no pressure that I need to play it because I'm paying for it.

Regarding the movie, this could be something special. The best thing about Warcraft is the lore. There are so many potential awesome storylines, and I think a lot of them would appeal to the wider audience. With Duncan Jones, this has the potential to be something special.

I've never played Warcraft and know almost nothing about it but I like Duncan Jones previous two movies, I like many of the cast members and I'm up for seeing a new cool sword and sorcery fantasy movie as Hollywood doesn't make good ones very often in my opinion.

I can not wait to to see a teaser for this film! Might get me back in the mood to play some WoW! lol

Kind of a bummer they didn't go with the iconic font instead. Minor complaint.

If my google-fu didn't failed me, it's Thrall's hammer ( leader of the Orcs ) called Doomhammer.
The shield must belongs to one of Stormwind's Knight or King.
No idea about the sword.

For those of you who haven't played the games, if done right this movie could blow LotR out of the water in terms of scale and how epic it could be. I'm hoping they use prosthetics over CGI for the Orcs and trolls. I still can't believe they went CGI for some of them in The Hobbit.

They said they're going with CG for the orcs because the proportions can't be done via makeup and pros.

Well, hopefully they look better than that white one from The Hobbit.

logo looks more like for a Starcraft movie...

I've never played the game so thanks for this bit…
Question though, what kind of storyline is it? Is there a particular story that this movie follows?

I haven't played the games in years so I don't remember exact details not to mention there is a ton of lore and I haven't fully kept up with the production on this film. Basically, I'm not quite sure what specific stories or events they will be using.

If I had to guess and assuming they'll be following the games stories at all I would say it would take place during The First War, the events of which were loosely told in Warcraft: Orcs and Humans.

There are also two novels that expand upon this time: Rise of the Horde (backstory of Thrall and the Orcs) and The Last Guardian, about Medivh (played by Ben Foster) and his apprentice.

Tooling around the wiki there is a great way to familiarize yourself with the setting.

Is Paula Patton still in this thing? Hopefully playing a draenei?

How far along is the production on this? Are we expecting to get a trailer soon or anything like that at Comic Con?

I remember them mentioning that the film would center around the First War, the conflict that was told in the original game, which sounds realy good to me.

About Production, i remember hearing that they had already finished filming, so they'll have quite a long time for Post-Production, from the fast filming it's probably that there will be a lot of CGI involved.

Being a massive warcraft II, and warcraft III fan, and reading many a novel, I'm excited and worried for this movie for two reasons.

One the story telling is immense, however it's not cut and dry. I'll give a quick "overview" of the story.

In warcraft I - its orcs vs humans, the orcs have invaded azeroth to take it over. Orcs are seen as bad guys. just one city they were looking to take over.

In warcraft II - Orcs vs humans again, this time a much larger army, and more orc clans are involved, this time looking to take over basically everthing in the world of azeroth.

In warcraft II : expansion - the humans have pushed back the orcs, and now push through the dark portal (where the orcs came from.) into the orc world, and look to eliminate the orcs..they fail miserably.

warcraft III : the portal is closing, and draenor (the orcs world) is getting destroyed the orcs have no where to go except through the portal back to the human world to survive. The orc clans get scattered, orgrim doomhammer who was the warlord in Warcraft II, is no where to be found, Thrall is born, and raised by humans to be used as a gladiator, eventually, realizes he is an orc, and rallies the orcs by breaking them free from internment camps. Thrall is the new leader, eventually finds another continent called Kalimdor where the orcs can live away from humans.
Finds out the whole reason this war started, was because of demons that were looking to enslave both races (human and orc) to battle the nightelves. The orcs were brainwashed with bloodlust, hence the first two games were human vs orcs, and an orc had made that pact, along with the guardian of earth (medihv.) Demons defeated at the end by all the races rallying against the undead scourge.

warcraft III (expansion): the undead are rallying, under a seperate leader, and seem to have gained self awareness, humans and elves look to stop this from happening. Orcs just enjoy there life on kalimdor, but get attacked by humans for being orcs basically.

This ends up ending with the undead all being under control by a former human prince who went corrupt, and turned undead.

Then WoW starts..and you have all this other lore.

This is why I have no idea if they start from the beginning, or if they jump right in. I really do hope its the beginning, because there's obviously a lot more deeper stuff that happens, crazy twists and turns, very games of thrones-ish, when you hear the different sides points of views.

Hope that helps anyone whose interested to get just a bit more excited for this!

I can't for the life of me remember who that was. Can you put his name in spoilers?
