Sci-Fi Dune

Cinemasocre often has to with audience expectations. Even a good movie might get a lower cinemascore if the trailers hinted at a different move than what the audience ended up getting.

True. I dont remember how Arrival was marketed though but im sure it wasnt painted as some action packed adventure lol

That just doesn't matter in the case of Dune, IMO. Part One is half of a movie. It is now a totally and utterly irrelevant issue with both parts existing.
I was thinking that audiences have accepted The Empire Strikes Back's cliffhanger so much easier because most people on the internet have watched the trilogy when it was already complete and not when it first came out, while with Dune they had to wait 2,5 years for the second part and they felt that gap. I doubt it will be a problem for future generations, so ultimately it doesn't really matter.

this seems to be very successful. I‘m not getting tickets for the IMAX the next 3 weeks

This. All the this. If Dune Part One was all we ever got, then yeah awful ending. But we have both parts to complete the story. It's totally irrelevant and doesn't matter now

I thought that the first hour took its time and then everything got quicker. Personally I thought the third act unfolded a bit too rapidly.
The battle and hostile takeover by Paul and the Fremen seemed to happen just as soon as it started. One example being I feel like there has to be a lot left on the cutting room floor regarding Gurney and Rabban. That whole confrontation between them felt like it was over in 10 seconds. "RABBAN!" "Yeah?" *Knife to the throat*
Agree completely.
I found the throne room scenes and the duel with Feyd to be very rushed. For a guy who is usually very deliberate in his pacing and willing to let moments breathe, I felt like Denis did not take his time to build tension or danger on the third act.

Part One’s ending is great imo. Immediately left me wanting more.

The editing of the battle between Paul and Jamis relating to his awakening is fantastic.

What's it gonna take for Denis to release extended cuts?

In an interview with him I watched, he essentially said once he cuts a scene, its dead to him. So you're probably never getting extended cuts, at least ones Denis has any involvement in

Rewatching Bladerunner 2049 for the first time in a while and my God, as much as I love Dune 1 and 2, I still think this one was his piece de resistance IMO. Denis just has this uncanny ability to suck you into these worlds he creates.

Watch that WOM go. May be somewhat limited in growth, as I think IMAX is getting the main draw for now. Which just looking at my local one, the earlier shows are 75-80% full. Last show of the night isn't too bad, so that may be how I go see it in Imax.

This is kind of why I'm not all like "Wow, I don't understand the Dune hype" because I know for others the coldness isn't an issue. As a film fan, I was still in awe of Dennis craftsmanship on both Dune movies, but if someone was to ask me what i think is still his best movie, I'd go with Blade Runer 2049. He seems to be hard on himself about that one ironically, and I happen to think it's a masterpiece. Prisoners is a close second.

Blade Runner 2049
Prisoners
Dune Part Two
Dune
Sicario
Arrival
Enemy
Same top two and I believe 2049 is a masterpiece too. I liked Arrival a lot more than you though

Watched it today for the first time. Great movie, so much better than the first.

Chani and Stilgar stole the show for me.

Wish the 3rd act was longer, the battle and conclusion felt way too rushed.

Bring on Dune 3.
