As long as people say the movie was, I would have been happy with 2 more hours.

I'm glad singer did it they way he did.

I have no doubt there will be a sequel despite the first films budget and BO numbers.

Hopefully the extended edition rumors aren't BS.

At least there will eventually be a DVD with the deleted stuff. We know that much now

3. The entire process slowed to a crawl towards the end because *ALLEGEDLY* Singer's partying had gotten rather "extreme" to say the least. He would apparently show up in the editing room still wrecked from the night before and be unable to function. According to my source he had "completely lost interest" in the whole endeavor about two months out from release due to his excessive partying and studio demands re: the film's running time.
Anyone remember X-Men 2 reports claiming that the cast had essentially mutinied and threatened to quit when Singer allegedly went off the rails during production?

Nice

I'd rather see a deleted scene in which we see a shot of Gotham City and the old Burton Batmobile pulls up to a stoplight and the baseball, previously thrown by Clark, comes flying into the picture and smashes the windshield. :D

Got any links?

Well, McKellen during X3 interviews stated that Singer and Ratner were quite different in that Ratner has alot of energy and throws serious parties for the cast and crew all the time while Singer was more introspective in his directing and didn't really do much outside of working on the film and obsessing over the film he directs....

ROFL creative. We wouldnt even need to see Batman just the Batmobile

That is one of the dumbest rumors I have read. That doesn't even hold water as a decent rumor.

Really? A Fox representative confirmed the spat, and that a full day's work had been lost on the production. Also, you'll forgive me if I believe that he was still putting the best spin he could on the situation...

A representative from Fox in Los Angeles commented on what happened. The Fox rep said that Singer did react badly to a painkiller his driver had given him for his bad hip, “he got woozy.” The rep also confirmed that Singer and De Santo did “have a spat” but the cast never threatened to walk off the set.

The X2 cast's unhappiness with Singer is well documented. You don't recall Alan Cumming's comments about Singer's exit from X3, and his experiences with him on X2....?

"I'm not disappointed, I can't deny it. I think he's really talented. I'm very proud of the film. I think it's a great film. I didn't enjoy working with him on the film."

Sure, I remember Alan Cumming's unhappiness with Singer, if that's what you mean by X2's cast (not that I'm surprised--Alan Cumming can be pretty *****y himself. He *****ed non-stop about the make-up process since day one. Romijn had bigger balls than he did.) . . . I can also recall cast members such as Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Ian McKellen, and Anna Paquin having nothing but nice things to say about Singer as well--if the dislike was such, Jackman wouldn't have continued to visit Singer in Australia post X2, Janssen never would have made the comments that the X-Men films are Singer's films and that he did such a good job and that it was such a good experience that she wasn't sure if she would be willing to return without him, Marsden wouldn't have been so quick to do Returns (again while having nothing but good things to say), and Paquin wouldn't be attending the premieres of Singer's post X2 movies if the disdain was so prevalent.

I don't doubt that there have been conflicts with certain castmembers such as Cumming not to mention the rumors concerning Halle Berry (then again, Berry is now being rumored to have been having an ongoing catfight with Janssen during The Last Stand--when will it end?), but I don't find this particular rumor to hold much water at all . . . "you attempted to fire my driver so I'm going to fire the executive producer/friend that convinced me to do X-Men in the first place."

^^Well said BMM. Famke even dropped by the SR production office to say hi when she was in Australia promoting a movie.

With such a large cast in the high pressured enviroment of a big budget movie theres bound to be one or two who might not like the director.

Oh and on Tom DeSanto, yes there was a spat; but are you going to tell me that you don't have fight with your friends or relatives? People do have fights once in a while and later (most of the time) kiss and make-up. DeSanto signed on to produce Singer's 'Mayor of Castro Street' last year, so so much for that 'rift'.

Yeah i remember reading that.

This movie was butchered!

I swear, keeping EVERYTHING in would've made the movie sooooooo much better.

Singer should've made SR a 3 Hour EPIC! Why oh why did he cut it down? :(

I said the same thing in my first post earlier. The script is FANTASTIC, it's EPIC, like Gone with the Wind, and all the cutting really hurt the film cause you could feel something was missing.

The link from Retroman is really great check it out!

Wow. Nice find Retro. Some of those scenes/scenarios sound very interesting.
I wonder if we'll get an extended cut?Singer didn't sound too enthusiastic about reediting the movie.

SUPERMAN RETURNS???
He cut out the bit where Superman....RETURNS!!!!

It could be a disgruntled employee or someone who has it in for Singer.

Bald Steve

Movies - So I spoke to a guy who worked on Superman Returns RE: DVD details and production.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DISCLAIMER #1: This comes from a guy whose name appears within the first 30-50 listed in the opening credits so I would think this stuff is legit. It is all heresay, though, so take what you will and leave the rest.

1. Wait before buying the DVD unless you just want a bare-bones edition with only a few deleted scenes and such. There's a extended edition coming which will include a pretty long sequence where Supes is piloting a Kryptonian spaceship (just like the crystal one he took to Earth) and actually finds a pretty large chunk of the planet. Here is where several more Brando scenes occur as well as other scenes with the actress who played Kal-El's mother (digitally recreated, obviously). Singer demanded all effects be finished so this stuff is already in the can. It will NOT be on the initial DVD release, though, as it is already complete.

2. That scene where Clark throws the baseball out to the horizon and the dog looks him like, "Yeah, right"? In a deleted scene set later that night over dinner the dog actually returns with the ball. Clark picks it up, spins it on the table and the spinning ball morphs into the Daily Planet Globe and serves as a pretty cool transition to Metropolis. I don't believe this will appear on the initial DVD release either.

3. The entire process slowed to a crawl towards the end because *ALLEGEDLY* Singer's partying had gotten rather "extreme" to say the least. He would apparently show up in the editing room still wrecked from the night before and be unable to function. That's it for now, but I'm rapping with this guy again later in the week so I'll pry and post as much as I can.

hmm, i'm not surprised with the "theatrical version" and the "special extended version". they've done it before, starting with LOTR, its just starting to be a drag that they're doing it for every movie now. LOTR wa justifiable since there was just so much footage they cant all squeeze it in on the theatrical eds, not to mention that the theatrical eds was so vastly different (by using completely different footages) from the special extended eds.

I think certain films justify it- LOTR definitely did. Unfortunately, FOX edits the crap out of their films, so I do think those films deserve extended editions (look at DD, for example). Superman Returns is a similar situation to LOTR in that running time was a legitimate issue... so I say bring it on. ...Wouldn't mind an extended Punisher either.
