What do you guys think about this?

From Singer's Interview featured on Hollywood Reporter. Com said:
"I don't know about the first release of the DVD, but there's a sequence I cut from the movie, a pretty significant sequence, and that sequence will appear at some point on (a DVD edition of the movie). It's kind of a fun look into Superman's journey off the Earth (into space that) I didn't use it in the movie. It might be on the DVD. I haven't decided yet."

Here Singer clearly says what was cut off was a significant sequence (Superman's journey off Earth into space AKA the Krypton scenes). I really hope this sequence (or scenes) make it into the Director's Cut DVD to be added IN the movie, not as a separate "Deleted Scene".

Thoughts?

Vote on!!!

I can't believe they cut the whole space journey from the movie. Hopefully its on the dvd. As a director's cut?Hmm.. if Singer cut it, wouldn't that make the theatrical cut the director's cut?

I'd only want to see a dc or extended edition ala LOTR if other scenes were cut too.

i see it in the deleted selection but i hope theres a directors cut at the same time the DVD comes out cuz i WANT IT ALL BABY!!!!!

I agree. Don't forget to vote!!

did they take the whole thing out, including the krypton sequences? how the heck would the audience possibly know what kept Superman away all this time? how Lex masterminded his "escape" from prison?

of course if its just the sequence prior to the 6 year dissapearance then i guess it wouldnt be so bad. it would be a great addition though to the DVD, much like what they did with LOTR.

I was thinking of a two disc DVD with the options for theatrical version and director's cut along with alot of extras such as Behind The Scenes Documentaries, all Singer Blogs, Bloopers, FX's documentaries, etc.

It would be interesting if they added a documentary about Superman Lives and the struggles to bring Superman back to the silver screen.

damn that should be on theaters, anyway put it on the dvd with the entire movie, extended movie, not in the deleted scenes.

I would like to have the Director's Cut. That one of the best thing about DVD. It always interesting in seeing how the movie is from the director's cut of what the whole film look like.

I hope Singer gets the word. :(

Well, in the novel, Superman does explain to Lois why he went.

I'm sure the film will have other visual ways of telling the audience why he left.

Again, it is a long sequence but in the end, there are other ways to explain why he was gone.

Hell, when he returns to Smallville and goes through the old new papers, there are many references to why he left. That's probably how he's going to do it.

The film needs a dramatic opening. Him crashing home is dramatic for the audience.

I hope to see it on the DVD, whether deleted scene or recut. But, we need to see how the film works without it before we clamour for it to be put back in the film.

He had to have had a pretty good reason for cutting it.

So if the space scene is cut then where the hell is he returning from and how is this going to be explained in the movie. This pisses me off that they cut a major plot point out of the movie.

The rumor has it, it was cut because of time constraints. While it could be explained away on a conversation, I would've love to watch the whole thing, specially when we caught a glimpse of it on the first teaser. It looked awesome.

As an opener, I can see why it was cut. It's not dramatic enough. It's a long sequence in the novel.

i would like to see it, though separate. I heard there were statues of the council and the elders and stuff like that, i would love to it them

oh my stars and garters

either way someone will edit all the deleted stuff back into the film

They should have it in the movie, but I think what they should do is on the DVD's first disc have the option of watching the theatrical cut or director's cut right when it comes on and you pick one to watch.I know this is just wishful thinking because they would never put both versions on one disc because that means they can't make us pay more money a few months later for another DVD.But I have always thought this would be a great idea for all movies.I saw it done only once and it definitely helps you get your moneys worth out of it.And now two discs DVDs cost $30 this would help make the $30 price worth it.Even if it didn't have the directors cut on it I'd buy the $30 one anyway.

Me too. When he does gets the word & if it what we wanted, it would make me happy in my pants. :D :D

Put it in the DVD edition along with any other pertinent deleted scenes.

I was really looking forward to seeing this sequence on the big screen but can understand why it may have been cut for time constraints. The film is called Superman Returns not Superman Leaves Turns Around & Comes Back so it makes sense to skip his wild goose chase into space and pick up the story from his return. I do hope to see this sequence within an extended cut of the film on the dvd. I would settle for the sequence to be just an extra on the dvd but maybe not with the delted scenes. In theory the sequence could work as a short film prequel to the actual feature. Seeing how close it is to the films theatrical release now they have missed a great marketing opportunity. Imagine watching as an extended internet preview of Superman leaving on his journey back to Krypton his ship disappearing into the stars as the words Superman Returns June 28th blaze across the screen. That would have been cool.

It depends how it's edited. They can still have him return and later on, when he's talking with Martha. After a few lines and the famous: "That place was a graveyard" they could flash back to the Krypton sequence with the subtitle: XX years earlier and move on through the sequence. At the end of the Krypton scenes they would go back to their conversation. It's too bad I don't know the lines of the script but I would give it a shot to make the scene fit somehow.

Part of the Krypton sequence from Superman Returns:

All credit goes to Kal-El.org

That scene is very amazing & creepy. It really give the right term of Kal-El saying "That place was a graveyard. I'm all that is left."
