Yes, the new Conan movie is horrible. They also tried way too hard with the violence and nudity. Conan torturing that guy by sticking his finger up his nose etc. I haven't read all of the Conan stories, but I don't remember anything like that.

Sure, there's some sexual stuff in the original stories, but Robert E. Howard didn't write stuff like: "and there's a lot of boobs everywhere and naked ladies and boobs and they have sex and Conan drowns in boobs and naked ladies". The movie was written by a teenager.

Don't insult horny teenagers like that. :woot:

I second that. The Scorpion King, dumb and silly as it was, still had a lot of charm and fun. That Conan remake/reboot/regurgitation was just a boring pile of crap with a lifeless performance from its too lead (Momoa and Nichols). Stephen Lang looked like he was the only actor actually trying in that movie.

The Conan reboot, while it may have suffered from a somewhat generic script, it did have quite a frenetic pace, and Jason Momoa gave the most Conan-like performance.

All in all, right now I'm expecting Hercules to be better than both The Scorpion King and the Conan reboot.

So Conan is supposed to be that boring of a character?

Well, with all due respect, I don't really recall it the way you phrase it there, however, just to give the benefit of the doubt, there is a sequence in the Conan story "Xuthal of The Dusk", where a female villain strips another female character completely of her attire to torture her by whipping her to get information. I think that part is much sexually stronger than anything in the rebooted film. Also, regarding Conan and women, remember, he's got "gigantic mirth";)

Didn't that happen in Red Nails as well? Howard had a lot of issues:hehe:

Trailer looks good. Can't help but wonder if being in the summer crowd may work against it - not that being released around the same time as the Hobbit part 3 would do it any favors either.

Well, actually there was a good bit of female nudity in Howard's stories, sometimes they'd spend the whole story in a state of undress even when it made no damn sense, as someone else pointed out. In "The Vale Of Lost Women" the girl of the weak, a pretty blonde named Livia, gets clothes completely torn off while escaping a village of savages and spends the rest of the story naked for it.

Just saying. ;)

Are you saying that the Hobbit is still coming out in July? Nah, it moved to its regular December spot.

Valeria was stripped nude in order to be sacrificed, yes.

You'd have to have actually read the stories to know all this though.

I really liked the trailer. It looks beautiful, incredible production design. Hopefully the script doesn't waste these things.

I just saw the trailer.... Visually it looks pretty good. I liked everything but the "I am HERCULES!!" part. My understanding of the book it's based on was that in THRACIAN WARS he was an incredibly strong warrior but not quite supernatural in power. If he's killing the classic monsters from the myths though, in the way his did in those stories then he must be presented in the film as someone with more power behind his muscles than anyone could have. I mean, he's got to have superhuman strength to squeeze the life out of the Nemean Lion, right? Plus the way it looks like he kills the Erymanthian Boar, he'd HAVE to have immense strength to crush it's skull with a blow from his club, right? I haven't read Thracian Wars but do those events actually happen in the book, or is it more along the lines of what people THINK happened, and in this film it's going to turn out that those scenes are the legends but not the truth?

What people think and tell others to bolster the legend but Hercules never denies or confirms them.

He is wearing the Nemean lion's pelt and his strength in the comic is way beyond a normal person where he punches his way through a brick cell or knocks down a 100 ft enforced gate with one blow.

The sequel, The Knives of Kush, pretty much gives a definitive answer if Hercules is actually THE son of Zeus and of legend.

I remember that one. That's the racist one...well, one of them anyway. I remember the shock I felt when I read Read Nails for the first time.

Conan: "I don't like black women!:cmad:"

Calm down Conan, no one asked you.

The one with Solomon Kane in Africa is horrible as well. The story is exciting and all that, but some of the racism is hard to ignore.

But I have read worse.

Had no idea the teaser had been released until a few minutes ago. Looks awesome. Curious for the full trailer to see a bit more of the plot advertised. This is shaping up to be an expensive summer at the movies for me.

Maybe this is something that has been fairly prevalent in post-300 sword and sandal epics, but why does everyone have to yell their lines really loud and angrily?

I'm sure the workers at the Drive Thru of the Local McDonald's will be thrilled. :p
