So Rock reveals some more details and it looks like they are not following the comics at all. This is a straight revenge tale. Hercules is anguished at the beginning as they show he is mourning his dead family (with many flashback action scenes to 12 labors. And then he finds out who killed his family and then it is a revenge tale.

What's he going to do, get revenge on himself? :funny:

From the interview and first paragraph it doesn't sound like they're throwing out the comics or storyline.
The story takes place after Hercules’ famous 12 labors, and has him “traveling with a group of mercenaries and cashing in on his famous name until he’s hired to train an army for an epic battle.”

..that's exactly what the story ends up being for the comic books. It seems like they're adding more and paying respect to the mythology of the character but even if they did stray from the comics I wouldn't consider it a bad thing as The Thracian Wars wasn't that good honestly.

Maybe they go for the switcheroo angle they did with Marvel Herc?

A lot to say your title is fraudulent. :woot: And to take yourself far too seriously.
A lot to say that what you post is absolutely pointless (commenting on users instead of the movies). And not worth reading or responding to in the future.

I laughed out loud in the theater when I saw the trailer. When the words Hercules came up on fire. So cheesy. :lmao:

The attitude of "Bro, do you even lift?" is strong here. :word:

I don't know why anyone is surprised anymore when Hollywood ignores source material.

It's disappointing to hear they're claiming to take inspiration from a comic, when it's simply just Hercules mythology in general instead.

No need to lie to the audience.

And yet... you respond. :woot:

I'm sure anyone who actually reads my posts in here will see a lot of what I say isn't consigned to just other member's comments. Like the post above me. While not directly about the movie itself, it is about how the movie is not going to be a direct translation of the source. Most movies aren't and even when one is (say, Watchmen for the most part) people still hate it so it's a lose-lose situation.

Not much of a fight. All I did was point out a contradiction about his nonjudgementalism and he took it seriously, much like he seems to take everything seriously.

Everything must be serious. Levity is forbidden.

Nolan and his dark, gritty seriousness is definitely to blame.

I'm still waiting for Shao Kahn to yell "Finish him!" though. :csad: I have this great finishing move I want to try out.

The purists deny there is any kind of levity.

It's always super cereal with those people.

Anyways, back on the topic, I think this movie will be entertaining. I wouldn't mind a break from the super serious, everything's gotta be dark and gritty wave currently crashing over Hollywood.

I don't mind them but not every single movie. And this isn't going goofy but it isn't taking itself super seriously either. It looks like an action movie set in ancient greece with Hercules starring the Rock.

If I was looking for a more serious interpetation, this wouldn't be it.
