E3 2009

Trivial features? Have you actually played Substance and Subsistence? There was significant amount of extras in both of those. Substance has an extensive amount of VR missions that could have easily been a stand alone budget priced title. Not to mention Subsistence introduced the full 3D camera to the series.

Can't speak for MGS: I as it never came to the States, though I know the VR missions part that was stand alone was excellent

Integral was Metal Gear Solid + VR Missions.

I own Substance and Subsistence along with Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater. Overall, they were more trivial additions that essentially amounted to an expansion pack than a full on game, especially Integral and Substance. You were still playing the same ol' Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2.

The only one that I would say that went above and beyond was Subsistence. Like Integral and Subsistence, it added the trivial features like the MSX games and Metal Gear Online in the place of VR missions, but it completely changed Metal Gear Solid 3 with the new camera. It felt like playing a new game in some respects.

But with all the stuff they put in Metal Gear Solid 4, along with them barely fitting all of the content in a 50 GB disk, just what else can they really put in it? I really can't see them going above and beyond like they did with Subsistence.

I'm sticking by what I'm saying. It's almost a traditional at this point. If they do it as DLC it most likely will come from that horrid service as that's how they've released all the add-on content for online. I definitely think it'll be in stores as well.
If they put it on that horrid Konami service, I hope to god that they'll release it in stores :csad:

If we can see Halo, Gears and Fallout add-on DLC on disk format, is it that hard to believe we won't see the same for MGS?
The Halo, Gears, and Fallout DLCs are on disks

Exactly, the games don't change, it's all an expansion. Though, I disagree that there trivial.

I believe it was confirmed that the game was around 38 GBs through people who ripped the game from the disc. That leaves 12 gigs of space. Not to mention that the game's data was uncompressed I believe, with some compression techniques you could open up significant space.

Indeed

The Halo, Gears, and Fallout DLCs are on disks

I was a little mistaken, the F3 and GOW2 ones aren't out yet, but they're incoming

Not sure if anyone cares about this stuff anymore, but here it is

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/tony-hawk-ride-goes-to-wii-ps3-360-with-a-peripheral/

As expected, the new Tony Hawk game was revealed on GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley. Tony Hawk Ride will take advantage of a brand new skateboard peripheral (pictured above) and, according to the program, will be available on all current generation home consoles: Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Skateboarder Tony Hawk said he has wanted to create a peripheral-based game for quite some time, but technology only recently allowed Ride to be possible. When grilled about his skill at the video game, Hawk said that he was quite good and added that skateboarders should find the transition easy. Multiple difficulty modes will allow players with even the most inadequate of balancing capabilities to play.

The official website teases another appearance at this year's E3. We promise you that you won't have to wait long to find out more about Tony Hawk Ride. (Probably because we already saw it, and we're still under embargo.)

yea i saw that episode of GTTV. The game looked really crappy. Really crappy.

They're still trying to pull the Tony Hawk series out of the hole they pushed him into?

I remember how awesome Tony Hawk 2 was. :O

I'm looking forward to Telltale's next game. I just bought both seasons of Sam & Max on Steam because they were half off.

Indeed it was. The high point of the series in my opinion. It only went downhill after that.

Me too. Sam & Max is great, and I personally loved the Strong Bad series on the Wii.

I wish they would hurry and get the Wallace and Gromit game for XBL finished so that I can play it. :D

Yea, it was very much the best game in the series.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/mass-effect-2-video-shows-us-the-darker-side-of-things/

The second installment of BioWare's sci-fi action series finally gets more video love today, and this time it's not telling us that the main character is dead. Instead we notice ... well, we'll just let the above video, "Prelude to E3," speak for itself. Just please stop toying with our fragile emotions, already! We'll have hands-on Mass Effect 2 goodness from E3 soon, where we look forward to "killing someone a thousand times."

In the link you have a video that confirms the game will be at E3 in a behind-close-door demo

Huh. And E3 instantly redeems itself after a dearth of virtually any interesting news. Someone better get footage of the hands-on stuff.

Behind close doors means nothing a video will probably appear of it within a matter of days after its shown. I'd be understating if I said that I was just excited for Mass Effect.

Yeah, it's almost certain will see some bootleg video of the demo shortly after E3 for Mass Effect 2.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/epic-to-show-off-new-unreal-engine-3-tech-at-e3/

Epic has some new additions to its famous Unreal Engine 3 planned, adding to the host of new features shown at GDC this year. Though the company isn't spilling the beans on exactly what we can expect, some objects doing stuff in an environment is likely a safe bet. The news is seriously that there will be news later.

Through a press release that just landed into our inbox, we can confirm that this new tech will be on display for "prospective customers, evaluators, licensees, and members of its Integrated Partners Program" who would be interested in the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3-compatible engine. Sadly, we have no more details than that at this time.

I wonder if that engine will ever die out. Probably not 'til the next gen, if even then.

Well, there were two big engines that people were speculating would replace it. One was the Cry 3 (or something like that), that was made by Cryteck. The other was the new one id is doing for Rage. The latter is probably not going to happen though, as id has said they probably won't licenses the engine out very much

Crytek's engine would probably be great for next-gen consoles if current bleeding-edge computers are starting to get the most out of it.

http://kotaku.com/5256506/whats-tecmo-bringing-to-e3-ninja-gaiden-models-for-one

Publisher Tecmo is heading to E3, armed with a septet of games, three of them still currently unannounced. What will Tecmo be bringing, beyond a playable Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2? And "Ninja Gaiden models"?

A lineup that's heavy on the PlayStation, with Quantum for the PlayStation 3 and Undead Knights for the PSP. Quantum, for anyone bewildered by the game's appearance at E3, looks to be the renamed Quantum Theory, the third-person shooter the company announced last fall. Unfortunately, it appears that both of these titles won't be playable, as Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PS3 will.

Tecmo also has at least one Wii title ready for the show, with Family Fun Football making an appearance in video game form. Why it's not named Tecmo Bowl Party is a mystery we hope to solve at the show.

Finally, Tecmo has three unannounced digital download titles coming, referred to only as "Puzzle game," "Music + 2D Platformer game" and "Sports game."

Meh, I never seem to be into Tecmo's properties. Ninja Gaiden was just sort of okay to me. Undead Knights has a cool title, but I don't have a PSP.

:waa:

Oh sorry, had to get control over myself there. NG is about the only franchise from them I care about. DOA is ok, I guess, but everything else is pretty 'meh'. They've promised big things with this Quantum Theory game, but it probably won't deliver

I think I'm at a stage in my gaming life where new shooters just don't excite me anymore. There's just so many of them that they all start to blur together into a gray haze of sameness.

Lol, yeah, I get that way, too. They've promised this would be the 'next step' from Gears Of War, but it probably won't

You should try them, that aren't half as good as most people make them out to be, but they're still pretty good. Especially co-op

Both titles are a solid 8 - 9, which is what most media outlets ranked them. They feature really good MP, good co-op and an interesting story. Maybe not the deepest story but a cool concept.
