Here's how I see it:

$400 mill - Not a figure Marvel will be especially thrilled at, but can live with it.
$450 mill - A good result. That sequel we just greenlit is more than justified.
$500 mill - A resounding success, absurd interpretations of the word "smash" notwithstanding.
$550 mill - Marvel magic! We did it again.
$600 mill and up - Amazing. We're so good we could make a financially viable Squirrel Girl franchise.

Summed u nicely.

You guys know that bit from (I think) New Avengers where Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are interviewing potential babysitters and after going through a bunch of Z listers they finally settled on Squirrel Girl? Well now I'm calling it: that's gonna be a scene in an MCU film/show one of these days.

Perhaps Squirrel Girl will be the one who takes out Thanos?

I still feel it in my bones that this will surpass many folks expectations. I'll do my part buying several tickets every weekend

This topic is not about how much $$ mil qualify for a smash hit guyz. just let it go.

if GoTG doenst outgross Godzilla(2014) WW i will stop making posts.(Oh it will)

550-650 mil. will be the spot i think (if not more since early tracking and reviews are VERY GOOD)

I bet this movie takes the August record.

I'm hoping I can get the amount in my signature down 500 million and make it that much easier for the next avengers movie to take it over the top.

It'll be really satisfying if this successfully stomps out the inevitably heart-crushing TMNT adaptation.

Just a "dumb fun popcorn flick". I think that's how it usually goes.

^^ pretty much.

Followed by either:

-Too much comedy

-Where's SHIELD in all of this?!?

In all honesty aren't we all fans of comic book superhero movies? Does it really matter if it's Batman, Captain America, X-Men or Guardians of the Galaxy, any of these movies if they do well critically and financially is good for the entire genre. It doesn't matter if its DC, Marvel , Sony or Fox.

And if SHIELD were in this:

-They just had to shoehorn SHIELD into this

Exactly. But to some fans, it's like a soccer match where they're rooting for their own home team to win

Stupid really

"Yeah the movie was alright as a dumb popcorn flick. Pretty generic, definitely overrated" :o:o
There are a handful of people who are going to go into this movie already knowing they will dislike it, and that's fine. All the power to them. Just kinda sucks for them that they're intentionally missing out on a great time.

Yes well I am, I can't speak for everybody. I've been a lot more invested in the MCU, no doubt about that, but First and foremost if I'm given a great film, with great characters and a great story I'm happy. However, when it's my favorite characters who are being butchered, I have the right to speak up (and quite frankly I've been vocal about what Fox did to the X-Men franchise and the FF). I mean I loved DOFP despite the film ****ting on some of my favorite characters. It was a great film and I acknowledged that. The MCU is just more appealing to me because of the shared universe concept.

They're not perfect though. IM2 sucked sooo bad. The Phase one films apart from Iron man and the Avengers were meh to good. Phase two was just an overall improvement but it's not without it's flaws too (see IM3, Thor 2 and GOTG to some extent). But yeah, I'll watch any CBM because I'm a fan of these characters. I mean look at my signature, those are the films I call the epitome of the superhero genre. They're great films (yes even the X-Men films which **** on the source material). I'm just glad that we're getting all these CBMs.:woot:

I'll be happy if DC can crank out some good films but I've always been a Marvel guy since I was a little kid. I honestly refuse to watch anything FOX does after X3, W: O, and the FF4 screw ups. I just made up my mind a long time ago that I wouldn't give them another dollar. That being said I did enjoy First Class when I caught it on HBO and I'm sure DOFP will be a decent flick but again I won't pay to see it. To me the MCU is where it's at and just butchers the competition IMO. Even there meh movies are better than what other studios are doing

Agreed.
Although the last 3 X films from Fox have been pretty excellent, they seem to know what they are doing now. Xmen origins is unforgivable so I understand your resentment, but when you get a chance you've got to catch DOFP. Probably their best yet in my opinion.
All I know is the way things are looking....

The skies will be filled BLACK with crow.
:hehe:

I think with the current hype, Matching Thor: The Dark World's box office is completely possible. That would make it the second highest comic book franchise starter of all-time (not counting reboots) behind the original Spider-Man.

I agree that it's possible, but I'm going to try and not let my hopes get to unrealistic haha. i have a little under $500 million as my prediction, but I'm trying to keep it conservative.

I'm currently predicting about $350 M foreign, which is a far shot from Thor's $438 M. I believe that Thor's $206 M domestic is very attainable though.

Is this being opened in China?

Could make the difference between making Thor 1 money and Thor 2 money WW.
