^ That's a great question, hadn't even thought of that. According to the IMDB page I don't think it is, but that could be wrong.

I'll be happy if DC can crank out some good films but I've always been a Marvel guy since I was a little kid. I honestly refuse to watch anything FOX does after X3, W: O, and the FF4 screw ups. I just made up my mind a long time ago that I wouldn't give them another dollar. That being said I did enjoy First Class when I caught it on HBO and I'm sure DOFP will be a decent flick but again I won't pay to see it. To me the MCU is where it's at and just butchers the competition IMO. Even there meh movies are better than what other studios are doing

DOFP is one of the best of this genre IMO, when you do get a chance you should watch it. I was losing interest in the franchise after Origins Wolverine, but man now I can't wait for Apocalypse. Oh and Planet of the Apes was fantastic as well, I really enjoyed that movie, would definitely recommend it.

Now back to box-office
Also now that GOTG seems to be getting critical acclaim for now, I think this should reach 500 million with no problem.

See, I've always been a DC girl myself, and my favorite hero is and will probably always be Superman, but to me, outside of the TDK films, Marvel has been blowing DC outta the water in the cinematic arena. And while I'm not happy that DC's not making films I enjoy more, I'm still thrilled with Marvel's success, because at the end of the day, I love the genre as a whole and I'm getting some superhero movies of the kind of quality I couldn't have even dreamed of 15 years ago. So while I will continue to cross my fingers and hope for some great movies featuring my favorite DC characters, with Marvel right now I can just sit back and enjoy the ride. :D

What are the chances of Ninja Turtles taking a sizable chunk of the this movie's audience?

I'd personally be ecstatic if this grossed more than half a billion worldwide.

OK guys, get back to the discussion of YOUR BOX OFFICE PREDICTION for this movie.

As a side note: If you are going to report a post, DON'T REPLY TO IT, that only continues the problem and makes me spend time deleting more posts...

One of my posts a page or so back was deleted and I got an infraction. I completely accept that and agree that I might have crossed the line. However, my intent was not to flame but rather meant as a joke. Admittedly a mean spirited joke, which is why I'm not at all complaining about or second guessing the action that the mods took.

However, on the other hand, how long can a poster hide behind "hey, that's just my opinion" when there's a huge pattern of behavior that implies baiting? Each individual post might be taken as an opinion. However, taken together, do they not betray intent?

In any case that's the last I'll speak of it. I typically pride myself on being more even keeled and loathe to enter into petty skirmishes like this... so I won't. :)

*clears head and throat and gets back on topic*

At this point could $600 mill be an achievable figure? Taking the stellar WOM and reviews into the consideration, I think $500 mill is in the bag.

The other way around would probably be more likely. With GOTG's stellar WOM it puts more pressure on TMNT to really deliver the goods, otherwise it would only be seen as a poor alternative and audiences would sooner choose to have repeats of that other "fun" movie.

I think GOTG's OW might be slightly lower, maybe around 80 mil or so. But if the positive reviews hold up, I can see tremendous WOM and it could do great week-by-week numbers with minimal drops, and ended up somewhere above 200 mil domestic and perhaps 600-700 mil WW. I think it can be a certified hit when that happens.

Never assume that poster hasn't received the same warnings as well.

I've been thinking this.

Turtles might even beat Guardians of the Galaxy. It's not about fanboys, it's about what kids would rather see. The family audience. I think people are overestimating GOTG and even if it does well will be seen a disappointment because expectations are too high.

60 M is as high as it'll go for opening weekend. Turtles too.

I think kids'll be all over this, I know I woulda been. That said - Turtles vs GOTG will definitely be the big debate with friends in the backyard on which to see (if they have the chance to see only one) and Turtles is the obvious choice to lean toward. However, the fairly grotesque designs of the turtles and irreverent tone of GOTG will sway some. Just going off my own childhood movie discussions with friends and I would've probably felt though, every kid's obviously different. It'll be interesting to watch play out, no doubt.

Plus Turtles will affect the second weekend drop rather than the opening weekend of Guardians.

Also if they hit up GOTG first, when TMNT rolls out it's possible people (namely kids/college students) will go, "Aaah, **** the turtles - let's see Guardians again!" assuming it's as impressive/fun as the reviews have been making it out to seem. As long as it gels in the mind for a long while and entices people back, a la Avengers, it'll be in good shape.

I think younger kids maybe in turmoil, but i would think anyone over like 8 would be enticed just because guns in GOTG. I know I would have been.

Plus parents specifically dads will be more likely take their kids to GOTG than TMNT i reckon, they would know they could enjoy a marvel film too.

Yeah, second weekend will also be up to WOM, and like I said I think the soundtrack is part of Guardian's ace in the hole -- like parents talking to other parents will bring up the 70s hits and it'll sway them to go check it out with their own kids out of pure interest.

Thanks guys!

Hmmm about the prospect of TMNT-GOTG competition on the overseas front?

I know a lot of TMNT territories will be in late August/September, but still.

Im not rooting for TMNT to bomb or anything, I'm just wondering if both films will kinda end up cannibalizing each other.

Lol

I'm not surely entirely how popular TMNT is these days, I used to watch the cartoon when i was a kid, though i don't have many friends who did. I heard it has got popular again recently.

There's a new Nick cartoon out for it that's sort of revitalized its brand, especially in young boys, at least from what I've heard/read.

Exactly. But to some fans, it's like a soccer match where they're rooting for their own home team to win

Stupid really

I think a strong element is less "soccer team" and more "I want to be taken seriously!" Its not that the DC fans intrinsically like DC better necessarily; for a lot of them, its just a side effect of Nolan doing "serious movies about serious matters", which plays into the strain of fandom that is still desperate to have its fandom validated. Same line of thought that leads to throwing in random death as a way to look "mature".

I don't think the TMNT brand can compete with MCU these days.

This isn't the early 90's and Marvel is at the top of their game.

My kids, who know alot more about TMNT than they do about GotG, have been begging to see GotG instead of TMNT.

Dat raccoon effect.

I think GotG will beat TMNT by at least 75 m domestic.

TMNT will be the only real competition, but seeing as how it seems targeted only towards adolescent boys I could see GoTG easily making more since it will appeal to a wider audience.
