Eddie Murphy--Beverly Hills Cop 4

It was said that Taggart (Ashton) had retired, so a potential return, in one way or another, is possible.

Eddie Murphy was great in those films but Reinhold and Ashton really added to them and they all played off each other well.

^ I agree. I love the dynamic and the chemistry between the three.

UPDATE: Jerry Bruckheimer And Paramount Ink First-Look Deal; Brett Ratner Attached To Direct ‘Beverly Hills Cop’

UPDATED: Paramount Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer are back in business together, with the free-agent producer and his Bruckheimer Films finalizing a three-year first-look deal with the studio that will begin in April 2014. “I have a lot more freedom than at Disney,” Bruckheimer told me today. Clearly, he’s referring to the fact that he can take projects elsewhere to develop if need be, something he couldn’t do at Disney. He also cited Paramount’s strong marketing and distribution team and said he was impressed with how well they handled the Brad Pitt zombie movie World War Z when the going got rough in the press.

In September, Disney announced it would not renew its first-look with one of the few brand-name producers in town — the one who begat the mega-successful Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. That decision came as the studio said it would have to write down as much as $190 million from losses tied to The Lone Ranger, the big-budget pic from Bruckheimer that failed to pop at the box office. Bruckheimer’s films have earned a combined $16 billion over the years, with 19 of his movies topping $100 million mark in U.S. box office receipts. His deal with Disney was about the most expensive in the business, with generous overhead, 7-figure producing fees and gross.

Bruckheimer will not have a discretionary fund at Paramount.

The first project under the new deal, however, will be a new Beverly Hills Cop movie — a reboot* of one of Bruckheimer and Paramount’s biggest successes together when he produced the original with late partner Don Simpson. Eddie Murphy closed his deal to reprise his role as Detroit cop Axel Foley — this time Foley will be returning to his Detroit roots. It will be the fourth installment of the lucrative franchise. Brett Ratner, who is currently finishing up Hercules for MGM, is attached to direct the film as soon as his duties on the Dwayne Johnson-starrer finishes up. The picture bows in July. The Beverly Hills Cop script is still being worked on.

Another big Bruckheimer-Simpson-Paramount hit in their sights: Bruckheimer as part of his deal will also produce the long-in-the-works Top Gun 2, which is being developed by Skydance Productions with Tom Cruise back in the cockpit to star.

*Again, another misuse of the word 'reboot'. It's not a reboot if Murphy comes back. It's a sequel with a reboot undertones.

I'd see it more as a restart. That way they get to use their favorite "re" prefix (boot, make, launch) and at the same time toe the line between sequel and something entirely new.

Interview: Jerry Bruckheimer on His New Paramount Deal
Prolific producer also discusses why he left Disney
Justin Kroll said:
“I’ve had a long relationship with Brad Grey going back to when he was a manager and had always worked well with him,” Bruckheimer tells Variety. “We also had a handful of projects in development there like ‘Top Gun 2′and a new ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ as well as selling a pitch called ‘Fake’ so at the end of the day it just made sense.”

Bruckheimer said a new draft for “Beverly Hills Cop” just came in (everyone is happy with it, apparently), and while “Top Gun 2″ is still in development, another reason for picking Paramount was how happy he was with working with Skydance and its CEO David Ellison.

Bruckheimer insists he is very much involved with the next “Pirates of the Caribbean” pic at Disney, adding that the script is being worked out.

In terms of why he left the Mouse House, the prolific producer says he wanted to make more than just family-friendly projects like “Pirates” and “National Treasure.”

March 25th, 2016 release date set by Paramount. Eddie Murphy returning.

Still want to see that pilot. :o

I just realized this is the first film's 30th anniversary. Do a Blu-ray boxset of the trilogy with the pilot as a special feature. (And, though I'm sure it's already been brought up, Michael B. Jordan as Axel's "official canon" son.:o)

I just hope Ratner does better here than with X-men although granted Beverly hills cop Is
more up his alley. Hopefully this film will be more like first 2 films.

On the Hollywood Reporter, I like how they're calling it a reboot but they're continuing the story of a 50 year old Eddie Murphy. The word 'reboot' has lost its meaning.

"Hang on tight as we preview the Fast and Furious reboot, Fast 7!"

I wonder who the villain will be for the fourth one?

And to think the movie is supposed to come out next year but there has been no news on this at all or have they even started shooting yet? But here is hoping they at least keep the "Axel F" theme

This is what Eddie Murphy had to say about it in a January Rolling Stone interview.

Are you really filming a new Beverly Hills Cop movie right now?
Nah, they still trying to get that script right. I'm not doing a Beverly Hills Cop unless they have a really incredible script. I've read a couple things that look like they can make some paper. But I'm not doing a shi--y movie just to make some paper. The sh-- got to be right.

So I wouldn't count on it making that release date.

Eddie Murphy pretending that he has artistic integrity is hilarious.

I agree with you but I can see his side of things when it comes to this franchise. These movies made his name so if he doesn't think a script is good enough for BHC 4 then I think that's his right. Saying that I doubt it will ever be made with him starring in it. Might be time to reboot.

The script "has to be incredible" ?

Like the scripts for all the movies he's done in the past 15 years?

I don't see BHC4 going forward either.

I hope that maybe John Singleton gets to direct this one, since he had a cameo in part 3. I wonder will Axel have a family/children or not in this version.

He's been doing exactly that for over 15 years now.

I can also see him trying to regain some integrity and credibility by no longer doing ****** movies for money and this might be a sign of his new found sense of self worth.

I was intrigued by the notion that Axel had finally moved to Beverly Hills and ends up coming back to Detroit to solve a homicide. We'll see whether or not that's the final plot. Side note: There is a real Beverly Hills in Michigan, which is a tiny suburb north of Detroit.
