Eddie Murphy to host The Oscars?

I won't be that great if he has to follow the material of the writers.

The Oscars don't want hosts that are truely funny because to be truely funny you'd have to make fun of half the ridiculous people in the room and they are famous millionares who can't take a joke.

Like Sean Penn.

The Emmys gave Ricky Gervais free regin and he butchered them completely.

And now they want him back again.

So, hopefully, The Academy can learn from them to grow thick skin.

I'm pretty left leaning as it were and agree with alot of his positions in that regard but man do I hate Penn. He's a smug A-hole and typifies everything that is wrong with people in hollywood.

I doubt it because the Oscars and Globes are two different awful monsters. The Academy Awards couldn't even take a toned down Chris Rock because he was so-called mean.

Ah, yeah it was the Globes, I always confuse those two hehe

Anyways, you're probably right... but I do hope they chose Murphy for a reason!

Yeah they really need to grow a thicker skin. Obviously there are lines that shouldn't really be crossed but there's nothing wrong with a little bit of good natured banter or ***take especially to a bunch of people who are living pretty good lives on the whole: rich, famous, good looking, doing the job they love and are at the OSCARS! Its not like the hosts are kicking them when they are down.

I hate to say it, but sometimes we can be a little TOO liberal.

The funniest thing I ever saw on the Oscars was when Jim Carrey went up to present an award, and then started re-enacting scenes from Midnight Cowboy with Woody and Buzzlightyear dolls.

I stayed up late that night and watched that as it was broadcast live, hilarious. But, I wanted to tape it later, and they cut it right down on all the repeats, really annoying, I think because he went out on a limb with it, like the best comedians do, nothing offensive, just y'know, surreal, and that was what made it very funny.

So, it's not just them wanting no-one offended in any kind of political sense, they also don't want anyone showing *too* much creativity, ie they want someone up there being safe and boring, exactly what Eddie Murphy does best these days in his movies.

This is true. Why else would they hire Ellen Degenres?

I was shocked when Jon Stewart was asked to host a second time.

I guess i'm one of the only ones that yelled "No!" when i read the title of this thread :hehe:. Eddy Murphy annoys me these days for some reason i cant explain.

you know.. you dont have to roast celebrities to be funny....

If it was old Eddie Murphy, then hell yeah. Current Eddie Murphy? No. He hasn't been funny in years and it's terrible. I don't know if he's to blame for picking increasingly poor choices or if it's the material he's been forced to use in order to keep getting a pay check.

maybe he does it for his kids..... unless his kids are really old by now lol

Eddie needs to go back to the stage. i take everything

I know at least some of his films were for his children but all of them? He's like Bob Saget during the Full House and America's Funniest Home Video years where he toned down to family-friendly from his raunchy and controversial stuff. Saget is getting back to form now but you'd never know how nasty some of his comedy was. I can only hope we see Eddie Murphy do something similar.

When I saw Sagets stand up routine for the first time a few years ago, I was literally mind-effed :wow: Damn that dude has no limits haha! Makes Full House seem even more creepier than it already was :P

You don't have to kiss their asses either.

Fun Fact:

I not a fan of Ricky Gervas as host of the Globes either. I think that his performance was way overrated and disappointing.
