Action-Adventure Edgar Wright's BABY DRIVER

So Edgar Wright is 5 for 5? Loved all his other films so cant wait to see this.

Hope it rakes in at the box office. Though Wright's films are often critically well-received, they aren't what you'd call massive box office winners. I was surprised to see Scott Pilgrim, for example, only brought in $47 million against a higher budget.

And the Golden Tomato goes to...

Just came back from this.

Loved it! So energetic, action packed and the soundtrack is amazing! It was so much fun to watch. Pretty much all of the cast members are standouts.

And my god - THAT editing. People who've seen it will know what I'm talking about. The way some scenes sync with the songs is simply amazing and masterfully done.

Also, hadn't checked any Edgar Wright films before, but I'm definitely doing that in the future. I loved the overall style of this film!

Even though he's obviously an evil prick, did anybody else feel kinda sorry for

Buddy? His driver suddenly gets cold feet and he's caught in chaos with the police, with his wife dying in the shootout. His anger was certainly understandable, which made the climax that much more engaging.

The sad thing was

Buddy was one of the two people on the heist team that didn't treat Baby like a complete freak. I definitely understood where Buddy was coming from. He even told Baby to back out if he wasn't comfortable.

SP was ahead of its time, IMO. It definitely would've grossed more if it came out 2 or so years ago and not in 2010.

I think Wrights love of film & music just seeps through this one.

The World's End.

ASAP.

Thanks for the recommendation! Meanwhile, I am seeing Baby Driver a 2nd time this weekend and bringing my girlfriend in this time.

Excited!

Yes, check out all 4 of his other movies. You can definitely see the seeds of how he did Baby Driver in Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim.

Yeah, for sure check out all his films if you like Baby Driver. I have a soft spot for The World's End, but I'd recommend just watching them in release order; Shaun, Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim, World's End.

I think it's pretty remarkable the jump Wright made in action/SFX between Hot Fuzz & Scott Pilgrim/TWE. Made Cera, Pegg & Frost look like badasses on small budgets.

Saw this yesterday, wow this was cool! Loved the use of music throughout the movie, and especially how it was integrated with the Baby character (have to admit that I dug that he still used cassette tapes) to make it feel like a throwback. Loved how all the gunfire in that one scene almost sounded like it was being played for musical effect, like as a rhythm—would've been even more awesome if that had escalated into an actual piece of music.

Also is it just me or does Lily James sorta look like Daisy Ridley, especially when she smiles? :hrt:

There isn't going to be a better movie this year.

I've been hearing Mädchen Amick, which can't be a coincidence, right? Not with Wright.

Rewatched all of Wright's movies this week and saw this yesterday. The man is pure cinema. :atp:

Don't know who that is, but I can see the resemblance there. But Daisy Ridley as well, of course. ;)

As the resident Daisy Ridley Fan*, I can't say I really see it. Lily James just looks like Lily James to me. Though the make up definitely brought an 80s vibe.

War for the Planet of the Apes?
Dunkirk?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

Or do you mean in terms of overall package (story, music, direction, cast, etc)?

Baby Driver is the kind of movie that makes me upset at other movies for not being as good. As someone who was expecting a hell of a lot, I was surprised by how good it was. Was not expecting that tone either.

Listening to the Double Toasted review... It seems like I need to go in without all of this critical hype.

Look into my eyes Kane. If you don't like Baby Driver, it just means life is meaningless. No big deal. :o

So just like this movie then. :o

I have a confession to make. I consider myself to be a pretty big film buff, but I've never seen a single Edgar Wright movie.

Is Baby Driver a good place to start?

I would go with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz myself, those two movies haven't been topped.
