cuz until I get a house of my own, Alvor's house in Riverwood is sort of my "unofficial home-base." lol

in the escape from Helgen, I sided with Hadvar, whose uncle is Alvor. Once Hadvar and the Dragonborn go to Alvor's house in Riverwood, Alvor says that any friend of Hadvar is a friend of the family and that I can use the place to stay.

so, I've been mainly using the house as a free place to sleep in between my adventures.

so, "story-wise," it doesn't make sense that Alvor's family would lock out the poor lil Dragonborn from their house.......lol.

but anyways, it seems the house has "unlocked." I rested at another inn, then waited a few hours, and.....voila......Alvor let me back in........:awesome:

be careful though... Riverwood got a nasty habit of being attacked by dragons...at least in my game.

I take it that Alvor has already told you to go to Whiterun? you'd better off there. Not to spoil anything, but there will be a better housing option once you got there....if you help a certain group.:cwink:

you mean......I can come back from a journey to find Riverwood destroyed ( and its citizens killed ) by a dragon?? :(

and yeah.....I know that once you become Thane of Whiterun ( which I already am ) you can purchase Breezehome. But that's like........5,000 gold I think ( acording to the wiki ). so that means lots of wood chopping......lol

clear out dungeons and loot the bodies of the bad guys, if you have a party member you should be able to get through a dungeon without having to sell and come back. Plus when you join a certain whiterun guild their enemy's weapons are worth $$$$$ cause of what they are made of

Once you start exploring, money comes pouring in. 5000 gold will eventually be nothing. There are way more expensive houses in other cities. I might buy the one in Solitude soon. The developers never intended you to keep going back to Alvors.

I'm thinking that what Alvor says is based on Viking and Greek hospitality. Guests were always welcomed back, but that doesn't mean they want you back. You have to say "what's mine is yours", but it only meant for a short time, it didn't mean "make this place your permenant place of residence".

hey....thanks guys.

but like I said, Alvor's place is just my temporary place to stay until I can get my own home.

I've never intended to use it as my permanent place of residence......

And storing stuff in Alvors house means that stuff will probably disappear. I would only store stuff in the chests in your house, to be honest.

You can get the 5,000 gold needed for the House in Whiterun in like two hours. Just loot up as much as you can and then sell. Rinse and repeat.

I haven't played in a couple of weeks but I'll no doubt go back to it sooner or later.

My character married and now lives in Whiterun, but I don't think sitting around the house enjoying the spoils of his many victories will suit a hunter/warrior like him for long. The perfect segue then to join The Companions!

Yeah, it can happen. i once fast travel to whiterun, and i seemed to brought a dragon with me somehow:dry: which then proceed to burn everything and everyone.

like everybody said...there's a certain group in Whiterun that you can join and they'll give you much better accomodations than Alvor did. I think you might have missed them when you first came to Whiterun, so they didn't came up to you and tells you about them. You can ask around and somebody in whiterun might point you in their direction.

Good luck!

Believe it or not...the house in Windhelm is waaay better...and cheaper too! in my opinion of course.

One major plus point about the house in solitude...is the housecarl:cwink:

Yep! join them and you'll get free accomodations...training and buy better equipments.

...And good questlines for players just starting out.

Good luck!

I bought this on day 1 on the PS3. but, I've been hearing/reading all these horror stories about freezes, lags, bugs, etc. plaguing the PS3 version.........well, I kind of got scared off and I shelved the game for awhile.....

It plays as well as the other versions until you hit like 60+ hours of gametime. After that the lag issues creep in if you play for several hours at a time. The lag is the only issue unique to the PS3 version, they all have freezing and general bugs.

I have over 90 hours in my PS3 version and overall it's been a good experience. Maybe you should play it and find out?

^ thanks.

yeah....I'm eager to give it a go again........so I'm going to start playing it again.

have they said if/when a patch will be released to address the PS3 problems?

They have said they are working on it, but I don't expect them to fix the issues entirely. It's a base issue with their engine and all of their PS3 releases have had similar problems.

Honestly, the problems on the PS3 were never as bad as people made them out to be.
