Elder Scrolls V - Part 7

I don't mind starting as a prisoner, but I really hope Bethesda includes a quick start option in their future games. It's a pain in the ass to have to go through the dumb tutorial thing every time you want to start a new character.

There was a way you could game the system in Oblivion and Fallout 3 to skip the tutorial, but Bethesda made it impossible to skip it in Skyrim, so it seems like they're going the other direction. :/

One of the best parts of the game is always emerging from the prison to see the outside world for the 1st time. Skyrim that was walking down to the river, swimming down the rapids then fighting that gang of bandits and their leader on the bridge high above with the river running underneath. Soon after that encountering sabre toothed tigers and then starting a climb up the nearest mountain path. What a start to the real game!

That was annoying in Skyrim. I'd really like to see them include different starting options in a DLC. There's a mod for the PC version where you can do this but consoles should have something, too.

It wasn't that it was a bad opening, it just got really boring to play it all the time. And sometimes I didn't feel like it fit for the type of character I was going to play.

I'd like to see the introduction of a non-hero mode.

For example, I didn't think it was fitting for the Dragonborn to become an Assassin. But you have to play as the Dragonborn. I think it would be cool if there were an alternate way to start the game.

Let's use Skyrim as an example. It would be cool if there were an alternate game mode in which the character is just a normal immigrant to Skyrim. The game could begin in Dour Castle (the Empire's main fort in Solitude). The PC registers as an immigrant with General Tullius' assistant Legate Rikke (during which time you pick your race and everything). After which, you are free to go about your business.

In this mode, the PC is completely locked out of the main quest and other features such as dragon calls, etc. The game should be affected by this. For example, if you see a dragon, you better get the hell out of Dodge because a non-Dragonborn doesn't stand a chance and as such dragons are insanely overpowered (practically invincible) in this mode. Or in Oblivion, the gates can appear with less frequency, but if the non-hero character enters one, they are ****ed beyond belief. So there are both pros and cons to playing this mode.

I think a non-hero mode would be an awesome feature to include in TES VI, as it would let the player enjoy the world without constantly having the main plot hanging over their head.

EVERY Elder Scrolls game starts with the player imprisoned. It is kind of a tradition of the series.

It's been a staple of the ES games that you start out as a prisoner. Morrowind was the same, though in that you're pardoned by the Emperor and are free to do whatever immediately after. The opening quest isn't an escape.

I know it's been in every game, but I've only played two. Twice is enough, let alone every single game. Tradition is fine and dandy, but so is freshness. I don't see any major crime in doing something new, and it's well past time for a shake up, in my opinion.

Only if there is a reason behind it. Changing something just for the sake of being "fresh" doesnt always help. I hope we do start out in a dungeon or prison again. I love starting off in the small confined area then walking out to see the entire world of the game. Its just an awesome sight.

Why wouldn't there be a reason? Haha, it's not like Bethesda are just going to go "Okay, so we're starting everyone out in the middle of a field just because". :funny:

There's no reason we can't still start out in a cave (or whatever), work our way through a tutorial level and then go out into the world. I'd just like to see something unique. Which isn't to say I don't appreciate and respect tradition, and I'm not going to cry if we end up starting in yet another prison -only that I would prefer to see something new. There infinite ways to kick start a game like this, it doesn't need to be the same every single time.

But that's is like J.J. Abrahams changing, "A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away," to "Hundreds of years before in a distant universe," in Episode VII, just for the sake of "there being infinite ways to start a movie and it not needing to be the same every single time."

Starting as a prisoner is a staple of the franchise. I see no reason to change it.

Wasn't starting in a vault a 'staple' of the Fallout games? Obsidian changed that up for New Vegas and it worked out fine.

We'll just agree to disagree, I guess (not that we're really debating anything). Like I said, I'd prefer if they change it for the next game, but I won't be unhappy if they don't. It's not a big deal.

I guess it would be nice if you could choose the race you want to play, right at the beginning of the game. Depending on who you choose, you start out somewhere else, and then configure the look of your character.

Some staples are better than others though. I'm totally fine whatever they do on this front but speaking generally traditions only need to be kept if they're adding specific value. I like the "I've got a bad feeling about this" line also from Star Wars but if it was something that didn't add much like "The base is on fire!" I don't think anyone would care about keeping the tradition. :woot:

Every time I play a game like Fallout 3 or NV as soon as I can save outside of the tutorial but before the final "Are you sure you want this to be your character?" option, so I can just load up, choose whatever and go. I don't like that about the ES series as they don't have anything like that. You ALWAYS have to go through the beginning, always have to make the character before anything else and if you don't like it, too bad.

Only Skyrim was like this where there was no option to re-do your character once you played through the tutorial quest.

Oblivion you made a character, played the quest, and had a chance to make changes before exiting the sewer.

I forget if you had a second chance to re-do your character in Morrowind. However, there was no real quest you had to do immediately upon starting so repeating the entire thing wasn't a big deal. The beginning quest was basically just the character creation and tutorial.

So, while i am upset that there will be be no more DLC's...because no real resolutions regarding Thalmor, civil war etc...

Another reason to be upset is regarding This girl!

There goes any hope that she'll be a marriage candidate like many fans were hoping for!:oldrazz:

There goes any hope that she'll be a marriage candidate like many fans were hoping for!

Yea no kidding. How hard can that really be?

I hope they really expand that system next go round. I dont think any character should be locked out of a romance, it should all depend on who you are in the world. The Witcher 3 will be doing something very similar.

Here's hoping they are still going to fix it with patches. They did it with Lydia when fans were complaining about not being able to marry her.

If there is such thing as an ideal character to marry in Skyrim..she's it. Bethesda teased us with her dialoques regarding marriages etc...

Funny side note: i'm currently playing Res evil 6, and the voice actress fr Helena is the same voice actress who voiced Serana. At some point she said to Leon: 'Let's move faster! "

I was half expecting her to finish that sentence with: 'the sun..it's not great for my skin...if you know what i mean!'

Hah. I always tried to just 'beat' the system and have Serana wait at my house, but eventually shed just leave and go back to the castle.

Yeah, my house was complete with the wife, kid & Serana. Vital part of any family!

I was wondering what it was I liked about Helena. And she should totally say that! :woot:

Yeah...Helena is a badass! She should be, in her former life, she's a daughter of a vampire lord!:oldrazz:

Anyway, so it's been confirmed that the next big thing Beth is working on, is that evil within game?

That's another bummer...

They're just publishing it apparently, a different studio developing it. So full steam ahead for Fallout 4 & more importantly ES VI! Or I hope at least. :yay:

You still havent played any of the fallout games...better rectify that mistake soon!

Actually no, in Fallout 2 you did not start out in a Vault. You started out in a small tribal type village.

I suppose that's one way to make the power armour more comfortable.

All the more reason to mix it up in Elder Scrolls! :D
