Elder Scrolls V

Now, explain this to me like I know absolutely nothing about mods and consoles. What exactly are console mods?
Honestly, I have no idea. I don't even understand how mods work on PC. But it looks like it works the same way that User-Generated Content works in some games where someone uploads something they've made in the game world and others can download it onto their game and access it whenever they want.

I want to play it but I don't think I'd be playing it properly and putting much time into it. More like just have a quick guided tour of some of my favourite bits to see how they are different.

I'll probably just try to platinum the main game. As big as the game seems for many people, it's actually really short to platinum in comparison.

Yeah, if you go just for them rather than spending a few hundred hours exploring it wouldn't take all that long. Just need to employ some tactics to get your skills up quickly.

And there's the rub. Skyrim is not just a game. It is a time investment. I am supposed to invest both $60 and 100-200 hours into a game that I've already explored from top to bottom just because it has a fresh coat of paint? The new lighting elements look great. You know what else looks great? PS3 Skyrim. Its not like they've reinvented the wheel here, in terms of graphics. It looks prettier but it is not a substantial jump. And while mods are nice, what are they really? Some new weapons, spells, and armor? Some people create quests, but in the end, they are usually pretty basic and generic.

It would be one thing if this were Oblivion or Morrowind, a game world that has been on the bench for 10-15 years. But its not. Skyrim will be LESS than five years old when this is released. It is a game that came out on the back end of last generation and still looks amazing. If I want mods, I can play the PC version as even the most basic PC can handle Skyrim now. Without new content, this just feels like such a blatant cash grab to me.

Yeah, I think I definitely used some kind of exploits to some of my perks to level 100. I think Sneaking was the only one I leveled up legit but I'll probably focus on that because my strategy was always to progress slowly with a bow and arrow and pick guys off with a headshot.

It'll actually be 5 years since the original

Eh, no, a little less. The original released on 11/11/11. This is releasing on 10/28/16. So just a couple weeks short of five years. Thus my less than five years comment.

You pretty much stressed less in the post. 4 years, 50 weeks vs 4 years, 52 weeks. To most people that's all 5 years

But I'm not wrong, it is less than five years. Just as if it were released on 11/12/16, it would be more than five years. Either way, the point still stands. The game is neither pretty enough nor has enough time passed to warrant me reinvesting the time and money into revisiting it. A Bethesda game is not just a game, it is a considerable time investment.

I consider it 5 years :funny:

And honestly, I've seen game get "remastered" in way less time, such as GTA and TLOU, which were released about a year after the last-gen versions came out. So I think more than enough time has passed.

Not to mention, there are tons of new gamers in this a generation who either weren't playing last-gen games or owned the console but never played them. So I definitely think there's an audience for it.

Both of those games were released within a year or so of the initial release and weren't as much "double dips" as they were games that were released at the tail end of a console generation and were being released for people who had already moved on. At the time of release, people knew ports were likely and could've just waited for the next generation release to play the games. This is more of a double dip, IMO.

There was no inclination of TLoU coming to PS4 back in June 2013 when it came out on PS3. Most people assumed they would go straight into UC4 development, not tackle remastering this game for the next gen console. I'll agree on GTA bc that seemed obvious with the PC port more than likely

I know plenty of people who bought both games twice. If anything, I'd be more upset at how both games looked like they were developed for next-gen but were then downscaled to run on last gen.

I generally feel that the more time that passes, the better of a candidate it is for a remaster, especially if they can update it in a way that makes 5 year old character models look much better.

Not to mention, Skyrim was all but broken on PS3. I know so many people who just couldn't play or finish it, so if they are able to make it look and run better on PS4 now, it's a perfect time to bring it back.

Oh please, the rumors were circulating before release that a port would be a PS4 launch title (since it was being released 3 months before the console). The talk was out there the moment the release date was set.

I guess we simply must agree to disagree. Maybe most people don't horde old consoles as I do, but I still have my PS3. I still have Skyrim. It looks fine. And while I like the idea of playing it without spiders thanks to the mods, that and a new coat of paint aren't enough to get me to rebuy it at full price when it still looks great and has always run great for me on PS3.

I was not interested in them redoing Skyrim until I heard the first few notes of the Dovahkiin song and my nostalgia for that game kicked it into high gear. I'm probably gonna buy and replay it. Can't help myself. I loved Skyrim too much.

I hope the dragonbone crossbow is available. That weapon looks awesome.

I wonder if some exploits will be kept in on purpose. Like if I can trick this version still into getting both the Savior's Hide and Ring of Hircine...

I can tell everyone where the Neo being BC with the PS3 came from: straight outta someone's ass. The BC issue with PS3 to PS4 has nothing to do with power, it's all about architecture

Meh, we on PC get it free.

the one game that I most wanted BC for was Skyrim. now that is being remastered, I have less interest in BC........lol

I'll be getting it when it's cheaper than new. I don't need to buy it right away since I've already played the hell out of it but ****ing with the game by using mods would be a fun time waster.
