Mystery/Thriller Elementary - CBS's Modern Take on Sherlock

Trailer wwas meh but I was already interested so no harm. Fan of the BBC and most things Sherlock so I will definitely check this out. Hopefully it won't be like all the rest of the procedurals out there but if it is I probably wont watch it for very long.

I'm glad that even though "Elementary" is set in modern times and set in New York City, Sherlock Holmes himself is still British.

And that's probably as close as we'll get to this show feeling "sherlock-ish".

recently saw a full first episode pre-screen and I must say that I did enjoy it, though it seemed more of a crime drama than a full mystery, per se...

but it IS still enjoyable and the actors and characters are likeable, as well... and I am NOT a big Lucy Liu fan... every time I see her, I can't help but think of her in those godawful Angels movies... but then I remember her in Kill Bill and I start to like her...

and her Joan Watson WILL call Sherlock out on his bullsheet, it seems

when I first heard the news of this series and when I was about to view it for the first time, I went into it with a completely negative attitude towards it, but after watching it, I came out of it liking it...

BBC's Sherlock is of course, VASTLY superior, but Elementary is just merely another different take and spin on Holmes and not a bad one, really...

I'll give it another look from the second ep on to see if it will hold up... though I hope they go with more of the real and true MYSTERY type of adventures and not the traditional crime drama...

Well that's good to hear. I'll definitely give it a shot but it certainly has MUCH to live up to in terms of quality, acting, story, etc. (aka BBC Sherlock)

Well the first episode was underwhelming. I got bored half-way through it.

It's a very run of the mill Sherlock Holmes adaptation. Not bad, but nothing special either.

I rather enjoyed it. I hope the episodes are better then the pilot

My lack of interest in this show, I think, Stems mostly from the casting of Johnny Lee Miller. Other than Dexter and Trainspotting, I've never found his acting to be anything special. I also think he's gotten really weird looking as he got older.

I thought it was underwhelming....my wife left about 20 minutes into it....since it follows my favorite show (Person of Interest) I'll probably catch some more episodes, but I won't be in a hurry.

I have to rewatch it again to get the feel of it.

Yeah, I got bored halfway through. It wasn't necessarily bad, it just wasn't doing it for me. Unless I hear that it gets amazing at any point during the season, it probably won't be a weekly watch for me.

I did find it a bit odd that the American Sherlock is English, especially since all the other characters have been changed to American.

This is a poor man's Sherlock. Now I don't just say that because it's a Sherlock Holmes story set in the present. That's nothing new. But this is simply inferior to the British show.

It's American-set. No one ever said Sherlock himself would be American.

I don't remember Watson being American... Or a woman for that matter.

Just seems odd they would make all the other characters American, set it in America, but keep Sherlock English.

Finished watching it.
I have no complaints, but nothing to praise either. Leaves the viewer with an empty feeling.

I liked it. It was never going to live up to the BBC Sherlock, but it didn't need to. The two shows are vastly different. That being said, I agree with a lot of the sentiments that there wasn't anything about the show that "wowed" me. Hopefully this is just a slow start.

So if the show lasts, how long until we start hearing about Moriarty, Irene Adler and Mycroft? I have a feeling they might have given us a hint at Irene in the pilot.

This will probably get cancelled.

The pilot was watched by 13 million viewers. #1 in its timeslot. There will have to be a MAJOR drop in ratings for it to get cancelled during its first season. The ratings for the second episode will definitely be interesting.
