I find it hilarious if anyone thinks that because he went to the PZ they can't find a way to bring him back  lol

Of any flaws MOS could be said to have it's extremely obtuse to say it had too many subplots. It's actually pretty straight forward with little digressions or mini arcs for it's characters. Please... Somebody point out these so called subplots that glutted the film. I would love to hear how it's filled with them. Sorry, this feels like the most silly of criticisms.

I disagree.

I think for me, i left the cinema wanting more, i wasn't satisfied. I could have easily watched another hour or so, it just didn't feel complete.

I love the take on Clark, but i wanted certain elements to be fleshed out. I wanted more time on the trawler, how did he react with the guys around him sailing the ocean!

How did he get on with the staff in the bar, how did he get into the military zoned area. Now one can argue that we can use our imaginations based off the information we already had, which is fair enough, but not for me.

I also wanted to see or know the history behind the suit - was it nano tech the AI Jor El created - was it one of many suits on the ship. It just felt a bit too convenient it being there and ambiguous.

Regarding Emil, i felt he sacrificed himself, or had no choice too, but yet afterwards, it was almost forgotten about, that lives were lost.

Now, one could say because i have all these feelings, it may represent a flawed film - maybe, maybe not.

At the end of the day, i enjoyed the film, it had great moments - B v S, the trailer at least, does seem to address issues of MOS 'criticism' which must mean it had plot holes or unanswered sub plots.

Let's not forget, Earth had first contact, Alien disclosure - ground breaking stuff, yet, it wasn't really handled in a way i felt it merited. The same to be said with the 9'11 size event of the final battle.

But - to counter act it, the scene was really cool, seeing the craft track earth around the moon's orbit.

It's healthy to have mass debates about Henry Cavill's superman right??

You did see MOS right? He's in the Phantom Zone. He aint coming back...like ever.

Why is it not possible for him to come back? In the realms of possibility, the tech can be reversed and a way can be created - isn't Doomsday in the phantom zone? Wasn't Zod in the phantom zone - he came back.

Now, wether or not they will be interested in writing a story where he comes back, is a whole different thing.

None of that is really about "subplots" though. You can say that you felt that there was no kind of "aftermath/reckoning" for the destruction in THE FINALE, but... That's really not a subplot.

Again... I am waiting to see a list of the supposed subplots that were overflowing in MOS, which distracted from the film... And one that's not silly and obtuse like, "We never got closure on what happened to that trucker after Clark trashed his rig>'

Then please... List all these so called subplots.

Meant to post this here, somehow I accidentally posted in the general discussion thread:

Well KRYPTON INC, you're obviously just being competitive.

Man of Steel was very messy.

Krypton...
Zod and Jor-El become rivalries.
Jor-El steals the codex.
Jor-El and Lara have secretly had a child which is illegal on Krypton.
Jor-El stores codex in Kal-El's cells to restore Krypton.
Zod and Jor-El fight.
Zod will find Kal-El.
Adult Clark is working on a fishing boat and saves everyone from the oil rig.
We get these flashbacks...
Young Clark is afraid of his newly discovered super-hearing.
Clark steals and finds another part-time job.
Flashback: Teenage Clark saves his classmates from drowning on the school bus.
Jonathan Kent "You have to keep this side of yourself a secret."
Adult Clark working at a bar. Looks for scoutship.
Reporter Lois Lane is trying to find it and the mystery savior.
Perry White is cross with Lois.
Jor-El stored part of Krypton's genetic material in the scoutship...which landed on Earth 20,000 years ago?
Clark becomes Superman. (How much time have we gotten to know this character by this point? We've seen the adult Clark Kent for less than 3 minutes)
Zod threatens Earth because he is looking for Kal-El who may know about the codex, forcing Clark to reveal his identity to the world.
Clark voluntarily surrenders to the army.
Lois has to go to the black ship with Superman.
Zod finds out where the ship is by entering Clark's subconscious.
The army is afraid of Superman thinking he is a threat.
Zod releases the world engine.
Superman is busy fighting the world engine.
Army is trying to fight Black Zero.
Zod visits the scoutship/Jor-El. They argue. "My son is twice the man you were." Zod: "I will rebuild Krypton atop his bones."
Superman flies back to Metropolis to stop Zod, makes life-changing decision by destroying scoutship along with Krypton's genes.
The phantom drive ascends the Kryptonians to the Phantom Zone.
Superman and Lois romance.
Superman and Zod fight causing more destruction.

Additional comments:

It's like Superman was mainly just there as a guy helping out who is kind of silent throughout the film. Zod, Jor-El and Lois seemed to have more lines in a couple of minutes than Superman had in a few minutes.

Superman: The Movie covers many aspects of the character. Who and why he is the person that he is. He has a secret and knows he has some destiny in this world. He knows he's here for a reason as Jonathan exclaims. Also we understand more of who Superman is through his lines of the loss of Jonathan Kent, "All those things I can do. All those powers...but I couldn't even save him."

He's like the ultimate good guy and Jesus type of figure. He stands for truth, justice and at that time then, the American Way.

In Man of Steel, we get the death of Jonathan scene. Clark is hitchhiking. Couldn't we have had more detail and couldn't the story have just stay focused on the adult Clark traveling around North America? When did he decide to leave, and how old was he? How long had he been hitchhiking?

I wanted it to be the ultimate origin film. In Batman Begins, we know why Bruce Wayne becomes Batman. The whole movie is about that. We understand the character and know his motives and feelings.

Man of Steel was supposed to be about Clark becoming Superman. All that was rushed. We barely got to know the character, somewhat in the bar scene where the truck guy threw beer on him...we don't know what Clark's purpose is before he puts on the suit.

What was established with Superman was anger through fighting Zod, Faora and the tall giant. For general audiences, non-fans of Superman, they would not understand Superman's aversion to killing when they see this movie. Superman fights and causes damage property. Someone could have been in the 7-11.

Would have been more interesting we got a scene where Superman revealed himself to the world before Zod showed up.

Emil Hamilton's alive and well sipping tea with Faora. :o

Almost nothing you are pointing out is a subplot. Seriously... I have a feeling that you are completely mistaken as to what that word actually means and is referring to.

And as for the italics...

Did you see SUPERMAN II. Yeah, Superman is shown actively saving people in that film but... He knocks Non through a building. He uses heat vision to explode an object over civilians. He throws Zod through a sign causing it to rain down debris... In short he has a hug super powered battle with a lot of collateral damage. He EVENTUALLY moves the fight somewhere else but, there it is... EVENTUALLY. I don't see all that much of a difference with the Smallville fight, though both the MOS Zod and Faora/Namek fight are so fast and brutal that I don't get the complaints that Superman should have controlled the fight to some heavy degree.

But to repeat again... Almost nothing you posted about is a subplot, and it's kind of silly to suggest that they are.

Emil's playing third wheel to Colonel Hardy and Faora now.

I got to agree there, it's just a list of what happened in the movie.

For me, sub plots would be the whole codex story - we don't really know much about it's history - it felt like a mcguffin.

I think end of the day, the editing is the one to take the flack, as that's what makes it feel either rushed, subplots to explained etc.

Anyways, happy thanks giving to you - you crazy wonderful people

Has it ever been said what's in the Phantom Zone anyway?

As far as the prisoners in there goes, I'd like to think the PZ depowers the Kryptonians, and Faora is acting super tsundere with Hardy, until eventually they end up together making human-kryptonian hybrid babies.

It raises an interesting question. The Kryptonians shouldn't have the powers they have on Earth but how livable is the place?

What's the atmosphere? We've already seen Krypton's air is different from Earth's. I'd imagine the PZ would be similar to Krypton's.

So in short, Emil and Hardy likely died of asphyxiation in the PZ.

I think Hamilton is gone, for all intents and purposes, for the time being. If they bring him back, then they've got to bring back at least some of the bad Kryptonians too, or else have some kind of unnecessarily complex reason why not.

However, I understand that a role like his is needed. A third-tier character that the audience doesn't really need to pay a lot of attention to, but who can explain a lot of the more abstract plot points as an in-canon science authority. In that case, why not expand the universe a bit, bring in a brilliant new scientist who seems friendly, but maybe a bit eccentric, at first. Like Dr. Anthony Ivo ...

I agree 100%

To compare the battles of the 70's version of Kryptonians with MOS kryptonians is just absurd, but most of Gugree posts are like that, just finding a way to complain about MOS. Nothing new there...
