Days of Future Past EMPIRE Podcast w/ Simon Kinberg

That was a great listen. I'm really really excited to see young Jean, Scott, and Storm, but at the same time I want to see them continue with both casts. I hope they find a way to make it work.

If they really want to "expand" this series like MCU style, they better not get rid of the OT cast.

Just listened to the podcast today. There were heaps of intriguing moments in it. It's interesting that he mentioned dark beast. Kelsey grammer would so rock that

agreed. Tho to really expand the universe, they should do separate movies, instead of just putting both casts on the same film, sequel after sequel

“We got pretty detailed with what happened to the survivors of First Class who ended up not making it. There was a draft of the script where you saw Havoc and Angel running through the woods in an experimental attack by a Trask Sentinel. This was the first time you see a glimpse of the Sentinels. We cut it before we ever shot it, for budget reasons to be honest, and also because there is so much story to be told that if there’s any way of telling it concisely [with autopsy pictures in Trask's office], you take it.

Many good things :csad:

Can't stop listening the podcast. BTW, are there any other "professional" podcasts about the movie out there?

Maybe they could bring a lot of those experimented on mutants back as horsemen?

It would be a shame to miss out on seeing a really great, fabulous, larger than life, Samantha jones type emma frost

Well if they want to maintain momentum like they did for X1 to X3, sequel after sequel might be the best choice to do.

Sequels are the way to go in the short-term. Let's look at spin-offs once the momentum lost since X3 has been made up

Creative Screenwritng podcast with Simon Kinberg about DOFP.

http://www.theqandapodcast.com/2014/06/x-men-days-of-future-past-q.html

Nearly two hours. Worth a listen.

This is by far the best interview with Simon Kinberg, even more so than the Empire Spoiler Podcast, the interview gets REALLY geeky and in depth with the script and the changes with the DOFP comic.

What was interesting is that Rachel Summers was in Kinberg's very first original script and she is the character who sends Wolverine back in time and Storm was adopting her, but he cut her out because with a film that already had a lot going on, we would have to explain who she is, go into backstory with Jean and Scott's death and Storm adopting her etc and became way too convoluted for the film and the general audience, so they used Kitty instead as they already introduced her in X3.

They even talk about why they set most of the future scenes in a Chinese monastery and Kinberg said he loves Indiana Jones and he wanted a sort of Indiana Jones location for the future and that monastery had a sort of Aztec, temple, adventure feeling to it. But Kinberg also said as a joke, a lot of people come up to him and say you set it in China because of the Chinese Box Office but that wasn't the case when writing the script.

It goes into WAY more than this plus why they didn't use Mystique's Brotherhood of Mutants like in the DOFP comic to help her assassinate Trask with that Vietnam scene at the start etc and Kinberg said they HINTED at a Brotherhood with the Vietnam scene and when Magneto gave his speech at the end etc, but Mystique is the McGuffin of the film and he wanted that scene in the end with Charles convincing Raven not to kill Trask emotionally and if they had a lot of noise, mutants in the background and her a leader of a Brotherhood and be a big battle with the X-Men and the Brotherhood at the end in the past would have distracted from that, so they wanted to keep everything in the past intermite and character focused and give all the action, mutant battles in the future scenes, so it's definitely worth a listen!

Thanks for the new link!

Listening to it now.

I really think based on listening to it we should stop trying to connect trilogy and wolverine films to FC and DOFP.

Kinberg doesn't challenge the calling FC a reboot

Kelly was considered and was ruled out to age of Bruce davidson not because of events of X-Men with him being alive in 2000's

Rachel Summers was in first draft and was not dropped because cyclops and jean had no children In trilogy but due to not wanting to get Into back story of storm adopting her after their deaths.

The brotherhood comments also don't fit with trilogy

It seems like the actors and certain homages to other films are only real connection between FC and Days of future past with other films.

It Is crazy that they seem to only be concernced with keeping to last stand deaths.

The red haired girl seen during magneto moving the stadum Is confirmed by
Kinberg to be young Jean Grey

The 1983 setting mentioned by Kinberg doesn't fit the empire timeline.

Probably because A) The Empire timeline was probably put together by the Empire team and not something directly coming from production and B) With the changes in DOFP they don't have to lineup with it in any way.

Interesting to hear that the Apocalypse will be set in 1983!

Let's hope someone moonwalks in this movie! :oldrazz:

Nice to have a year confirmed. He also pretty much states that Cyclops is in the next film. :)

1983? we better see x men attending return of the jedi

I saw DOFP this morning at the same mall where I saw Return of the Jedi twice in 1983. The 1983 theater is a Best Buy now, but they built a nicer theater on the other side of the shopping center. :yay:

An X-Men movie in the 80s is going to be fun.

Why would it? History has been altered, the past is now a clean slate and 1973-2023 won't happen the same way.

This podcast already makes me think we shouldn't try to connect trilogy and Wolverine films to FC and DOFP.

Cyclops and Jean being 16 to 18 years old In 1983 doesn't fit the empire timeline. The scene of Last Stand Of jean of 10 to 12 years old Is In 1981 according to empire. And cyclops around 16 In Origins was around 1987.

Since Kinberg Doesn't challenge the notion Of first Class as reboot and based on how script deovlped it's far better to view FC and DOFP In differetn countity
entirely from other films.

I wouldn't expect any strong logic behind these films. DOFP in general has many logic flaws or things are just just skipped over

I asked around and can tell you for definite that the Empire timeline is not an official Fox-approved timeline. It's an Empire timeline - a pretty good one but not an official, authorised, definitive one.

So the official dates Singer/Kinberg are working to may vary from it a bit.

But, ultimately, DoFP is a quasi-reboot so they are doing things differently now - ESPECIALLY from the way they were done in Origins and X3.
