For years, mostly after rap was introduced, certain aspects black culture have been imulated but white folks. But some have wondered if it's flattery or mockery.

So in your opinion, when white folks imitate a certain aspect of black culture is it done out of appreciation or out of mockery?

Sounds the same.

I think he either means immitate or emulate.

Either that or 'immolate'. :wow:

Although... according to Billy Joel: We didn't set the fire...

I think there is usually an underlying issue rather than trying to "be another race". "Black" culture is often interwoven with pop culture. Thus, there are many people, kids in particular, who try to emulate the icons of the day. If those icons happen to be of a different race, I don't see the harm in it. Yes, there are quite a few kids that look silly but that's been happening for decades with or without the race issue.

Here in the South, there are plenty of non-white fans of the Blue Collar Gys, Nascar, Country music etc...so it goes both ways.

Could anyone translate "We Didn't Start The Fire" into German for me? That would be intense. Thanks:up:
