So, which is older/came first? I understand the Eternals were created about 500,000 to 1 million years ago .

You mean God? Or Gods like Odin and Zeus?

Depends on which gods you're talking about. The Elder Gods were around long before the Eternals, but the more recognizable pantheons like the Norse and Greek gods are probably a bit younger than the Eternals.

I don't know who's older, but the Greek Gods are far more powerful. They went to war with the Eternals way back in Thor #291 and beat the crap out of them. :yay:

Who would win in a fight

Hercules(God) vs Gilgamesh(Eternal)

Gilgamesh is pretty much the Hercules of the Eternals. Gilgamesh does have more powers at his disposal, but all in all he is a bruiser and I dont think the Forgotten Ones extra powers would do much to Herc anyway.

On paper, Gilgamesh. In an actual one-on-one fight, I think Hercules would take him. That may just be because I like Herc more.

iirc, Herc KO'd Gilgamesh in that same issue of Thor, #291...

every so often i drag out my dog-eared copies of Kirby's few years of Eternals and wish they were allowed to exist in their own universe. They work best when they are what humans saw as "gods".

I loved that Kirby had the Eternals face "The Hulk" but it turn out to be a robot based on the popular Marvel comic books in their world. Kirby pretty much settled the ongoing argument at the time (read the letter cols) and placed them in their own world.

Gaiman did give them a better reintroduction than other writers since Kirby. And I enjoy the Knauf's series i guess. It's slow and plodding - like Thor - but well-made.

But the original work eliminating all other pantheons and establishing the Celestials and their experiments on the Earth was a bold, sci-fi/philosophy take on comic fiction. As it is, the existence of both norse/greek/etc pantheons of gods and eternals/deviants in the 616 is convoluted.

of course, maybe I've just never read any Avengers issues with Sersi and need to give it a try :)

Eh, Sersi was never that great an Avenger. She was like a do-over of the Wasp's early years--the flighty party girl who eventually has to toughen up because horrible s*** happens to her. Only in Sersi's case, she sort of fell off the scene afterward until her very low-key return in Gaiman's mini and her current appearances in what is easily her absolute worst costume ever in the Knaufs' series.

Not reading Eternals, huh?

No. I learned that reading sequels to Neil Gaiman stories that are not written by him is an exercise in suckitude.

Sersi also had to deal with Proctor, THE pettiest super villain ever.

The Knaufs are doing a pretty good job, actually. Totally different style from Gaiman's mini, but fun.

And petty or not, the Gatherers' ridiculously long arc was good. :o

Outside of Thor, Loki, Odin, and maybe the Enchantress, the Norse gods are basically pushovers. Granted, 4 really powerful members is still better than pretty much any of Marvel's other pantheons.

I never said the Gatherer's arc stunk, just that Proctor was rather petty. Traveling to alternate realities to kill alternate versions of your spurned ex is about the pettiest thing ever, aside for Dr. Doom ordering every supervillain on Earth to screw up Reed's wedding. :p

Yeah, aside for Hercules, the Greek gods have not been too tough in a while. Ares of course is a bit stepped up since he landed on Mighty. Poseidon had an Amazonian Handgun pointed at him lately. :o
