The Dark Knight EW.com Poll : Which actor will always be Batman to you?

Bale and Keaton had the biggest contrast between the characters Batman/Bruce Wayne. Bale - the sly, charming, cocky Bruce Wayne - the extremely intense in your face, yet stealth, Dark Knight. Keaton - was the goofy, Bruce Wayne with a bit of a dark side - his Batman was a calm, yet intense portrayel of The Caped Crusader.

I disliked Kilmers Batman. He wasn't tough enough. His voice as Bruce Wayne was pretty much exactly the same as Batman. As Bruce Wayne, it was almost like he was a depressed man, trying to cover up the fact that he wanted to cry all the time, and doing a poor job of hiding it. His voice was just as rough as Batman as it was as Bruce, that raspy sound. Sadly he had the looks for Bruce, but not the expression. The only time I felt that Kilmer was the least bit cool as Batman...was the ending, when he was in the sonar suit. It made him look very big and intimidating.

Clooney was another one who was pretty much the same as Bruce and Batman. And in my opinion had the ability to do a good job, but just...didn't. (See 'From Dusk Till Dawn')...and you will understand why I say he can be a badass.

West, obviously a Batman to many. That is what he is known for. But obviously in my eyes, not the coolest Batman.

It's sad that Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin turned out so terrible. In my opinion, if Tim Burton didn't make the Penguin so grotesque, WB wouldn't have felt the need to tone down the darkness with the next films. Which would have given Schumacher the chance to direct a decent Batman. Joel has actually made some well done movies such as:

PhoneBooth
A Time To Kill
The Lost Boys
The Phantom of the Opera
Flatliners
Falling Down

Anyways...that's not what this discussion is about. But if Joel was able to do an intense Batman, I think he could have.

Best Batmen: Bale, Conroy, Keaton

Adam West's beer belly makes me identify myself with him.

........what? He admitted to helping ruin the franchise. He was quoted.
You're right . . . he did. He is also quoted as to having no solid previous knowledge of the source material eiher. B&R was all Shuemacher's fault. That was 'His' Batman and I quote him at that.

I have to see more of Bale before I can answer this... but Conroy is my Batman and probably will always be Batman/Bruce Wayne

Hey same here man. The Batman in BTAS vol.4 and in JL and JLU will always be my favorite Batman on screen. He exudes a level of confidence that has always been Batman to me. But I must say Bale's getting close to that. When I read that he actually read some core Batman comics and loved the idea of the character . . . I felt he was on a better track than the previous actors.

Even though Conroy was a part of my childhood, Christian Bale is it for me. Even Keaton was missing something IMO (although undoubtedly good as Batman, his Bruce Wayne never clicked with me) and only Bale has ever nailed bother Batman and Bruce Wayne.

Batman and Robin was an amalgamation of mistakes, poor writing and producing, overcommercialization and bad ideas from all parties involved.

When I read comics I hear Kevin Conroys voice, which makes him the definitive Batman for me.

Ditto.

There really is no comparison. Bale, Keaton and the others, though they did good jobs of playing bruce wayne, just come off as guys playing a role. Chris Reeves was Superman, Tobey McGuire is Spider-man, Kevin Conroy is Batman.

Maybe it's because each actor is really just doing the directors interpretation of Bruce wayne, but none of them have captured the character the way Conroy has. His work in TAS is masterful.

WHen I read Superman Comics, I don't hear Chris Reeve's voice. When I read Spider-Man comics I definitely don't hear Tobey's voice. but when I read Batman comics, yes, I hear Kevin Conroy's voice.

Exactly. And Mark Hamill's.

Though to be fair, I hear Bale when I read All Star.

not too brag or nything, but i once played batman in a high scool musical an i think ive been the best so far! LOL

What was the musical called? The Killing Note? The long Holler'een? :D

keaton will have to be one since he was the one 2 make batman popular in the culture

Yeah well said. Others have interpeted Batman, Conroy IS Batman.

After BB I would have said Bale was next, but then I watched 89 again. Compared to Keaton Bale's Batman looks like a kid playing dress-up and his Bruce just isn't as cooly psychotic and intruiging.

If Bale comes off better it's only because he has a better script.

No, Bale comes off better because of the raw animal intensity he brings to the role. He really bubles over with rage that adds a new dimension to the character that wasn't present in the old franchise.
