The Force Awakens Ewan Mcgregor open to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I think Ewan was one of the best things in the prequels. That said, it has been established that Sir Alec is Obi-Wan in Force ghost form. For Episode VII, it might be best that it is said Obi-Wan has moved on, like in the Thrawn novels, and maybe stick with Anakin's Force ghost as a cameo (although I wasn't fond of Hayden's performance, perhaps in the hands of J.J. Abrams it could go better).

That said, I would love to see Ewan in a spin off movie, perhaps set between Sith and A New Hope where he keeps watch over Luke, making sure the Empire doesn't discover him...

Yes, post-RotJ Obi will be tricky, but it goes without saying that pre-ANH Obi is Ewan. And he's getting more and more the right age for it.

That's a spinoff i wouldnt object to at all :woot:

Ewan is sporting the Obi-Wan Kenobi too, he was on Jimmy Kimmel a few nights ago:

It's strange that after years of making (fairly lighthearted) fun of the prequels, he comes across as responsive to being in more Star Wars.

Strange and awesome.

Yes he is. Obi-Wan is part of my favorite three characters (along with Yoda & Luke) and Ewan's performance has a lot to do with it,

titansupes: he didnt like the green screen aspect of making the movies, but i believe he did enjoy the experience for the most part. He quotes Obi-Wan a lot even during his motorcycle trips, he's a funny dude lol.

Ewan tweeted this a couple of days ago:

Haven't heard anything about the new Star Wars movies. I'll let you know if I'm involved. #donthecloakagain

:hrt: Make it so, Disney :jedi

ooh...I would be ALL for an Obi-Wan spinoff film. One take takes place inbetween Ep 3 and 4.

Exactly, I might say to also give Yoda a spin-off also.....both set between ROTS and ANH, maybe even cross them over?---maybe Ghost Qui-Gon can figure into Obi and Yoda's Tatooine and Dagobah adventures...

With all the Star Wars buzz right now (which shows its still as popular as ever), so many possibilities!

I am a HUGE Yoda fan and would definitely like to see a spin off movie involving him. And yes, Qui-Gon could be a good tying device between the two.

The encouraging thing is I think Ewan would definitely sign on to play Obi-Wan in a stand-alone film.

Guaranteed. I just hope they give him the best Obi-Wan movie possible.

Yeah, he clearly has a love and pride for both the franchise and the character. Which also means he isn't afraid to say what he didn't like or enjoy about it all.

He also, like you said, has a lot of humor. Having both a nice distance to his work, while also taking it very seriously when in it.

Only if it makes sense for the story. No reason to throw characters in just for the sake of having them be in it. That is one of the biggest flaws of the prequels.

I disagree but at any rate I think the convo has changed from the opening post, I believe now most aren't bothered about Force ghost Obi-Wan appearing in the new trilogy, but instead want to see Ewan as Obi-Wan in a stand-alone movie covering his life between ROTS and ANH.

I'd be all for a movie with a beaten up Ben Kenobi strolling through the Jundland Wastes. Almost like a Western.

I just am not sure about him in the ST. Luke should be the new Obi-Wan.

Ewan Mcgregor was the best thing about the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Also you could believe his Obi Wan was a younger version of Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan Kenobi.

OH I agree in that respect. He'd have to have a pretty good reason to be there in the ST. And I think Alec G. and Hamill's on screen presence together is well established. As good as I think Ewan is in the role, I think that that fact should be respected.

A western inspired action-drama with Ben Kenobi wandering around Tatooine wastelands and Mos Eisley could be damn cool.

Actors change all the time. We're getting a recast of Han Solo, theres no reason they can't just put some make up on Ewan. He did a good job making Obi-Wan a likable character that fit in line with Alec Guiness's performance, even with the generally out of line material of the prequels. He could easily pass as Obi-Wans Ghost, don't knock it just yet. Besides do we really want to see more of Hayden (who I'd imagine is getting recast considering they didn't even let him return for the Clone Wars when he said he would like to).

Obi-Wan shouldn't get a spin off. Episodes I-III were just as much his story as Anakins. The scene in Episode IV when Obi-Wan removes his hood and the force theme plays is a perfect intro. Our hero of the previous generation is old and in retirement now and is being called back for one last adventure (the last step in the heroes journey). This is one of the few times I think assuming he did nothing all those years is actually beneficial to the story.
