Example of a trailer with noticeable, unfinished effects?

the POTC screenshots dount count. because they were not unfinished shots. they are just the plate. in those shots they didnt do any CGI. those are shots straight out of the camera.

It's still an unfinished effect. In this case it's just compositing. They obviously weren't happy with it the first time and changed the composition.

The Pirates trailer comparison is completely fair to use. Plate shots are still..CGI, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

look at the water splash and drip, its completly different, far larger wave on the second one, better compositing, the water dripping doesn't look like a .gif that was pasted over the video.

Yeah that's true, I've noticed that since then.

i have to disagree. those would be big changes to the story. they didnt change the composition. they added a ship for the love of god. this ship was meant to be in that shot fro mthe beginning.

the first trailer only had plate shots. then they started owrking on the effect.s

how is a plate shot CGI?

if i film out of my window the street now is it an unfinished shot? because later on i will add a CGI plane. no. its just live action footage.

maybe i am using the wrong word. i am just trying to explain that the reason is not that they were not happy. in 2010 when the trailer was reaelsed they havent started working on those shots.

It's still an effect, and the trailers clearly show the progression of that particular effect.

bit on the first screencap(first version of the shot) there was no effect. you only see locations ,actors, practical effects.

Yes, and then they added the effect later. That's still showing the progression of effects in a shot.

The claim of this thread was 'show me a trailer where some shots clearly demonstrate effects that are unfinished/have been changed'

It doesn't matter why, or how, the point is that the shot looked different in one trailer to the next.

@dark b, I'm kinda shocked how you were fighting this when you well know that plate shots require CG. Heck there's a friggin' pirate ship hanging from a cliff in one of the plate shots. I thought that was a given.

Come on..You're better than that. :)

It seems a lot of people are forgetting Spider-Man 3 montage we got at a convention containing the Venom transforming on the church floor. I've seen a lot of movie trailers that were tweaked and can give you a few:

-Transformers
-Spider-Man trilogy
-Superman Returns

Those are only the ones of the top of my head right now but for sure there's many more.

Im suprised no-ones mentioned the 1st X-Men trailer, the VERY first that starts with Storm saying "hang onto somewthing". That trailer was FULL of unfinished fx - most notably Cyclops firing his optic blast...without an optic blast! Just a flashing red strobe light off camera. :D

In the Sinestro shot, the key differences are in the Central Power Battery (?) behind him and the addition of Corps members.

Considering they're a screen shot of the same scene rather than the same second, I'd say they look pretty identical. But Hal Jordan's mask looks a lot better to me.

They're close enough for a lot of people not to notice unless they were looking for it.

The top one looks like they changed the height of Sinestro in the frame (might even be a different take)...but again, the background is considerably different...the size/shape of the 'green henge', the other lanterns at his elbow level, the texture of the rock wall over his right shoulder, etc. The bottom one is about as close to frame-to-frame that you're going to get. In the first trailer, there's none of that green flash at all......

Sinestro looks a little bit more bulky with broader shoulders to me too.

Well the big difference in the Sinestro shot is they changed the rock facade on the left side and they also changed the composition of the lantern behind him. Instead of being made from several big blocks it's now made of several smaller pieces. Should be pretty obvious when you look at it...

One would think so.

Here are a few examples to showcase the differences so far. One difference to keep in mind is they have touched up the coloration of the film and modified some shots (framing). On top we have the new and below the old shot from the first trailer.

Nah....I'm still not buying it. You could have touched up any of those with phostoshop...this is teh internetz, after all! That wondercon clip could be teh fake.

;)

I wouldn't be surprised we see that! :woot::wow:

Given the myriad of examples already laid out, I think it's safe to assume we all are familiar with the unfinished f/x phenomenon.

My issue is when certain scenes are left out of trailers for the reasoning of "unfinished f/x" even though said trailer already contains unfinished work. No greater example can be given than GL.

They said that the reason the initial trailer was underwhelming was because of the lack of finished effects work, particular with Oa, which would show the scale & epic nature of GL. Yet and still, there's numerous images all around this site of things that were improved in the Wondercon footage that was included in the first trailer

I guess I'm saying if it's ultimately that important to release something, then just release it finished or not, because your still going to be doing that regardless somewhere in the footage. Ironman's tank scene was skeletal compared to what it really became, but it was the money shot so they stuck it in there anyway, and it still achieved the desired reaction. Either that, or just wait to release anything like they did with Captain America, because now, as awesome as I thought the Wondercon stuff was, DC has to battle the perception created from that first impression. And the consensus, even to the brass involved, is that it was underwhelming.
