What do your friends, family, workmates, etc. think of Green Lantern as of now? Has their opinion changed since the first trailer? Made this thread out of curiosity. (If this type of thread isn't allowed, I'm sorry.)

I've actually had a few workmates come up to me and say they were excited to see it (I was talking about Green Lantern to a few people a few months before all the new footage came out) they said it looks pretty awesome and dig the effects.

Even my brother, who hated Green Lantern as a character for the longest time, has changed his mind about seeing this movie, and is going to see it with me at the midnight showing. My mom has been excited for this since the beginning (she loves most of RR's movies.)

I would've added a poll, but I don't think I can.

to be honest...I don't see too many people excited for it. They are more excited for Cap.
I personally can't wait for GL too...but I have to admit I'm more of a Marvel guy.

When a Marvel movie comes out, it feels like an event....but when a DC film comes out, it tends to feel more like just another movie coming out...and that's the feeling I get at the theater.

This is their opinions:
Who's Green Lantern?

You're right, The Dark Knight wasn't nearly the "event" Thor was. /sarcasm

But seriously, it's all on an individual basis, and I don't think in reality GL is any less of an event movie than any of the other superhero flicks this summer.

On topic: my girlfriend thinks it looks stupid and says she doesn't want to see it with me, citing that the aliens look cheesy.

My friends don't know much about it but think it looks okay. One friend asked me to clarify GL's powers, and after I explained them he said "that sounds pretty cool." I don't sense a clamoring among them to see it, but I don't sense a clamoring among them to see anything... One friend has mentioned off hand that he wants to see X-Men while another has said he wants to see Transformers. None of them even knew about Cap, although obviously that doesn't come out for two months so the marketing hasn't really picked up yet.

Most of the people that bothered to comment to me said that they were familiar with the character from the cartoons (Super Friends, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited) and were looking forward to watching the film this summer as well as "Thor" and "Captain America". Many others have not given an opinion at all, although most of the younger folks (under 50) enjoy watching comic book films. My two sons, who are under 14 say that their classmates really want to see it and buy the merchandising that is being advertised (i.e. the ring and action figures). So for the most part they want to see the film, but not any more or less than they want to watch the others CBM's coming out this year.

It varies.

My ex-girlfriend loves these kinds of movies and has recently warmed up to the Green Lantern film with the newer trailers, but she can't give it a compliment without saying something negative about how they had to shell out extra money and bring in people to finish the effects or recount how horrible she thought the first trailer is and how supposedly everyone laughed and made fun of it when they showed it before Harry Potter. Still, I think she exaggerates just because she knows how excited I am for it and well... she's still a little bitter towards me for breaking things off.

I have another friend who isn't really a comic book guy but goes to see most of these movies and he thinks it looks awesome. He was a bit underwhelmed by Thor though (one of the few people who thought the Earth scenes were great but the Asgard stuff was lame) so... perhaps the GA isn't going to get turned off by the scenes in GL that take place on Earth? Dunno.

And I have another friend I go see movies with periodically who thinks it looks stupid no matter what I show her. But she thought Green Hornet looked good, so... you know.

I got two friends who feel neutral about the movie and two friends who are looking forward to it. One of them doesn't like the fact that Abin Sur get's attacked by Parallax instead of Atrocitus. My ex-boss is looking forward to the movie.

Some of my friends are looking forward to it. Two of them who weren't sure after seeing the first trailer were impressed by the Wondercon Footage.

Family wise, besides my brother, most of them don't pay attention to superhero flicks.

A lot of my friends want to see it and some keep saying this...

I thought Green Lantern was Black.:whatever:

I actually just left a comment on youtube saying I was hyped for GL on randomguy's new video. And someone quoted me and said "But they got it all wrong, Green Lantern's not black in it." I can't believe how many times I've seen that comment left on the GL trailers that are on YT, It's crazy.

I will be honest with you, that question will come up alot if the person is under 30 or so. That's because they probably would have only been exposed to John Stewart from the Justice League/Justice League Unlimited TV series and not gotten a chance to see Hal Jordan. You also may have some trolls out there who just want to inflame people and cause a ruckus in some threads. They are doing it the correct way by respecting the source material and starting this out with Hal. For those who want to see a black Green Lantern, I am sure there will be the opportunity to do so in a subsequent film.

despite the recent good trailers and clips, my friends tend to revert to their negative opinion they came out of the first trailer with.

Either...

Never heard of him.

I thought he was black?

He's got a magic ring?

My online friends think he is cool.
My regular friends dont even know who he is.

I always wonder how these second and third tier characters are perceived by the public. GL is obviously second tier, but I've heard people refer to Thor and Iron Man that way, and their movies did well. I suppose The Hulk might be regarded this way too... everyone knows who he is but his movies haven't been as big as the studios hoped. So I wonder, is GL more or less well-known/popular than Thor, Iron Man and Hulk?

Pre or post movie?

I'd argue prior to their movies GL was less known than Hulk about the same as Iron Man and better known than Thor, but obviously Iron Man is the best known now.

Hulk is well known. He's above Iron Man, Thor and GL most definitely. Hulk is even used in common phrases by people who have never touched a comic in their life.

That's what happens when you have a TV series.
