EXCL: Len Wiseman on Wolverine

I'm really not excited about this. The Underworld films are all style and no substance. They look pretty, but there's some odd editing choices made and the scripts are so full of plot holes and bad dialogue it's painful. He also manages to evoke some of the most wooden performances out of his actors. I'd prefer he not touch a superhero property.

jag

but this movie has a solid scriptwriter behind it plus jackman already knows how to play his character to a tee

This decision has me pretty indifferent. I didn't like the Underworld films, but I feel Live Free or Die Hard seems like the film that will make a bigger impact on what the guy can do with a relatively good opportunity. It would really have to be good even with the PG-13 rating to really sway me, though- sometimes, bad movies aren't made just because of scenes cut out for a lower rating.

a hack?... he made a big bugdet action movie for 20mil and it grossed 90mil..
the sequel cost only 50mil and made 60mil

he works with a small budget and he easily makes it back and many people LOVE both the movies.....

when u could do better then go ahead:hyper:
yea but they're terrible films and besides 'Night At The Museum' made a boatload of money. probably more then Spielbersg movies make nowadays but that doesnt mean the director is better then Spielberg.

Really wouldn't mind Wiseman, LFODH seriously looks like it's gonna kick ass

Wiseman is neither a bad or a good choice.

The script isn't good or bad.

This could go both ways.

Wiseman would be a good choice. I really liked his Underworld movies. But I wish he'd do the third one in that series first.

Anyone see Live Free or Die Hard yet? It's not really a spoiler, but one of the early scenes in Justin Long's apartment you can see a fairly prominent Wolverine action figure on his computer. :oldrazz:

EXCL: Len Wiseman on Wolverine

Len Wiseman has already made a name for himself with the success of the "Underworld" movies and next Wednesday, his take on the "Die Hard" franchise, Live Free or Die Hard will open globally. Since he's already in good with 20th Century Fox, we wondered whether he'd be interested in helming the Wolverine prequel for which he'd been rumored as one of the contenders to direct.

"'Wolverine' is something I was interested in way before I was talking to these guys about 'Die Hard,'" he told Superhero Hype!. "I think it would be a great story to tell, and in the case of that film, it wouldn't be [as big] in terms of large-scale action, but it's something I'm interested in, in his origin story and the character story with that, and I know how Hugh would play it, and that would be awesome. So that would be my passion for that is that I think the character story is really cool, and I'd love to see it and be there the first day [it opens] anyway. There's so many things that have been going on and I know that there are so many other directors. There's nothing set in any fashion, but it has been talked about."

Check ComingSoon.net next week for our full interview with Wiseman talking about Live Free or Die Hard before it opens on June 27.

I would be fine with him being chosen to direct.

Really??? Ok, give the guy the job! :D:up:

Oh, boy. He has a Wolverine action figure in the Die Hard film. That's reason enough for me to embrace his bland direction style and inability to string together a solid plot.

I don't quite get that rationalization for making anyone a director for a comic film, either. Anybody else see Ghost Rider? MSJ said he was a huge fan, yet all I saw was really campy material from way back from the character's unpopular inception. Yet this guy puts a figurine amongst many others, and he's automatically the right material?

I insist all directors in consideration display an action figure in their previous film to qualify for the job. I also plan to scan every frame of Disturbia to see how many X-Men toys DJ Caruso used in his movie.

And whoever has the most toys wins. :oldrazz:

I was joking with that comment. :p Of course putting a Wolverine figure in his film doesn't automatically make him right for the job...but I think he has a unique visual style (from Underworld) and his work on DH4 was great. He understands action, and judging by DH4 he understands characterization. Being a fan of the source is also a plus (in my book), because he knows the material. He's been trying to do Wolverine for a while now, and seems to have a passion for the character. With a good script and him combined, I believe he could bring good things to the spin-off.

Of course, everyone has different opinions on whether he's a good director or not. All opinions are valid, as they differ from person to person.

Yeah, I don't want him touching the Wolverine property. He can go muck up his own movie somewhere else. Just my personal preference. :)

Live Free or Die Hard was an excellent film. Truly fun summer entertainment and the best Die Hard since the original. I think Wiseman can pull off Wolverine.

But hes gonna need a good script. Who do you think should 'pen Wolverine?
