External Harddrive for ps3?

I just bought an external harddrive and I tried hooking it up to my ps3 through the USB port but nothing happened. I've never used an external drive so I'm not all too sure about how they work and what not or even if it can be used with the ps3... any help?

well what did you try to do so far? first you might have to format it. secondly files have to be in correctly named folders.

typical trouble shooting question* have you plugged it in?

Haha, Yeah I plugged it in to the PS3 and nothing happened and I plugged it into the PC and nothing really happened.. it recognized the drive but the manual says its supposed to open up a software install guide and it refuses to do that.


Update: followed the instructions on the site given and fixed the problem. Thanks for the help!

Yep. I didnt even think about having to do that at first either.

oh yeah thats something you have to do with nearly all external drives before using

i was suprised when the drive i bought didn't have to be formatted.
