With the thread about scenes being deleted from the movie, I got curious about those of us here who were extras in the movie actually making it in the final product.

I was involved with 2 scenes. One was different than what we shot, and the other was intact.

The scene that was different for me was the Maroni arrest scene. I was present on set (but not part of the shot) when Gordon arrests Maroni ("You sure you want to embarrass me in front of my friends?"), and that part remained the same in the movie. Later, I was part of a group of bystanders when Maroni and the other mobsters were led out. In the scene we shot (photos/video taken by Rory_bat and posted here) they were loaded into a waiting Corrections bus. In the scene that made the movie, they were loaded into cars, and if you observe the background, it was nowhere near the restaurant/city street.

My other scene was the bar scene just after the hospital explosion. I'm present, but WAY in the back near the door and out of focus. I'm one of the taller people there and left at the appropriate time.

So, any of the extras here - did you make it? Was your scene different in the movie than what you remember shooting?

That's cool. You were in the back? Were you crammed when everyone was rushing for the door? Hehe :woot:

I was in the scene filmed in chicago at Navy Pier, the evacuation scene right before we see inside the ferry's. All of the scene was included and I was pumped because I got about 5 seconds of dead center screen time during the lines, " We should be on that boat" and " You wanna go across with them, referring to the prisoners.

Whenever the DVD comes out, we need to get all of you extras to post screen caps of the scenes you were in! It'd be great to see you in context.

Yep, I sure was! After we shot the scene, I was hoping (for almost a year) that they would be doing a close-up on the door area, and perhaps I'd get some face time on screen. Obviously, that's not what happened. But I'm happy that it didn't get cut, so I can at least still say that I am in the movie. :yay:

how did you guys get to become extras? Like whats the process?

The process can vary. I've seen two common ways. You can sign up with a local casting agency, so they have your information on file. They often work with movies that are being shot at that location, and from there you may/can get called to be an extra.

Another way is that sometimes (and this was the case for TDK) a public notice is made for a casting call for extras, where you go to a specified location and sign up to be an extra. For both methods, a headshot is usually requested, along with details about yourself (height, weight, experience, any hobbies etc. - anything that could be used to select you for a "role").

In my particular case, I saw on the Chicago Film Office website that there was a website setup to accept extra applications. It was RFKCasting.com (now defunct). I downloaded their application, filled it out and attached a headshot on it, then emailed it back to them (it was a .jpg scan of the application form, so I just used an image editor to fill it out). They called me to see if I was still interested a few weeks after I submitted the application.

What surprised you most about being an extra?

In my case, I read up on the do's and don'ts (google search), so I pretty much knew what to expect. I'd have to say the thing that was most surprising to me was how organized the whole process was. Everything was deliberate, and they took their time to make sure everything was as right as could be. I had to change wardrobe after I was going to be a cop, but had to go back to my regular clothing for my original scene (which was the bar scene) after that was canceled. Even though my scene was going to be coming up soon, I was told not to rush.

I did not make it in, everyone I know was looking for me and after seeing it a few times, I confirmed I didn't make it.

Oh well, it was the scene where the prisoners (me) were boarding the boat as the civilians were yelling at us. The scene was all day, amazing to see the movie making process. I'll never forget that day and when Chris Nolan accidently hit me with his arm as he was walking by me.

I'll try to be in the next one, last time for Chicago, I gotta get in.
Starting to hit the weights... :brucebat:

Thanks so much for the info!

very clear and helpful...I'v been asking around for how to get into this stuff for a while and your advice is the best I've received :woot:

I'm in the scene where The Joker tries to assassinate the mayor. I'm like two rows behind where Joker and his goons are standing. Sadly you can't see me :csad:

ill be living in the city so my chances to be in batman 3 just went up 89.34 percent

I wish I was downtown when they were shooting everything, but they were shooting scene late at night usually and I wasn't living close to downtown then like I do now.

Oh well, maybe next time. But the one place that Batman goes through on the Batpod was the train station I go to.

Yeah my scenes made into the movie, i was playing Batman...

yeah i made it in, scene with gothamites yelling at national guard, i was right behind the dude with dialogue...yay me. cant wait for dvd to freeze frame it.

yeah its like...really super quick, there are two shots, one of people just walking across the bridge, im in that super quick, and then you see a bunch of shouting people while a guy says "hey you should let us on" or whatever he says, and im in the background yelling like yeah maaaaan wooooo sort of thing.

i was sort of disappointed because they did a lot more setups than that and it was literally a 2 second scene in the final film...they got rid of alot of shots, they had this awesome crane shot coming through a gate and stuff that didn't make it...oh well..
