When you are a little kid, you can't really make too much of a judgement on the comparitive age of people in movies. You see the characters in high school and they are decently young, you buy it. Now though being 18 myself I can't help but laugh at how hysterically miscast so many "teenaged" characters are. I get why they use older actors, and most of the time people in their very early 20s can pull it off, but there are just some movies that are just too far. Its even worse when the characters stated age is younger than 18. 25 year olds playing freshmen just doesn't cut it.

one of the worst ever i do think is Starship Troopers, now too a point it just adds to the cheese and make it that much better but seriously absolutely none of those actors are believable as teenagers.

Also Scream, just not buying it anymore.

surely there are worse movies out there on this front, can you guys think of them?

Not just restricted to movies...
Luke Perry (not to mention the broad with the glasses who was even older)
Charisma Carpenter
Tom Welling
etc.

Wasn't supposed to be a teenager but Ray Liotta looked nowhere near 21 in Goodfellas.

First one that comes to mind is the 29 year old Alan Ruck in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

I was just joking with a friend about how Tom Welling being 32. He is basically Superman if he was a lazy stoner that didn't want to succumb to his destiny.

Well, he is about 32 now, I think. I was more talking about the early seasons when he was actually supposed to be a high schooler. I started watching the show in repeats in my freshman year in high school, starting with the first season when Clark was supposed to be a freshman. I looked at him and then looked at myself and the rest of the kids in my grade and I was just like "Nope... not buying it."

Here's the list of actors at the time Grease was released in 1978

John Travolta (24)

Olivie Newton-John (30)

Stockard Channing (34)

Jeff Conaway (28)

I'm almost 19, and I HATE teenagers in movies these days. Well, most of them. Mainly in the horror genre. All they do is drink, drugs, sex, and more sex. They come off as horny *****ebags.

Is that true in today's society? *sigh* Yes, sadly. But I still hate it. I would rather watch the teenagers from the 80's in films than today's.

That's ridiculous.... what, is she gonna start menopause when she's in college? Come on... I think there needs to be a limit.

This topic always makes me laugh because I realize that Saved by the Bell had the most accurate teen casting ever.

To be fair, he pulled it off.

Luke Perry (not to mention the broad with the glasses who was even older)
Gabrielle Carteris who played Andrea, yeah I think she was already in her late 20's early 30's.

It's been like that for a very, very longtime with kids growing up, in regards to the drinking, drugs and sex. It's not just today's society.

When you say you would rather watch the teens from the '80s films, do you mean in the horror genre? If so, last time I checked a lot of those films also had sex, drugs and drinking. Hell, that was always the running joke that the teens who did either one of those things were destined to die.

Sex

Gun Sounds

High Schools
&
Colleges

Four things Hollywood can't seem to get right. :oldrazz:

That's how they were back in the day, go back and watch NOES and Friday the 13th.

it depends because certain actors like Tobey McGuire pulled it off in the first Spider-Man because he looked so youthful.

I think the most accurate depiction of high school teens would be SUPERBAD. Not just the main cast but the extras too. They all looked their age and when Cera/Hill went to the frat party, there was a HUGE contrast in age/demeanor between that party and the teen party.

yea, but Stockard rocked the **** as Rizzo. I wouldn't have it any other way.

most definitely

and

i fully agree with the tom welling comments that crap is rediculous, i would like to see a picture of what tom welling looked like at 15 in real life. at least with superman you have the excuse that hes not human lol.

Whoa, Wellsing played a FRESHMAN in the first season of Smallville? Yeah, okay.

And this thought did pop up while I was watching Scream last week. In the script they say 17 year old characters. I'm 17, and so are the people in my grade and we don't look anything like that.

If they got real 16 year olds to play 16 year olds, they'd really end up looking like babies. Have you seen very many teenagers? Not very leading-man material if you ask me. They lack the experience and charisma to lead such films. Not all the time of course, but most of the time.

also limitation of work hours. I understand the logistics, but seriously they don't even try sometimes.

I think there might also be an issue with the nudity. Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't you have to be 18 or 21 to get nude legally in a movie? Alot of the teen slasher films have boobies galore, but they're always played by twenty something aged actress' for this reason........

This is something that has honestly never bothered me. Not even in Grease.

18 without parental consent. At least in America. But even in non-slasher flicks teens are mostly played by twenty-something year olds. It doesn't bother me unless they look way older than they should.
