Fantastic Four Animated Series Discussion

I thought the animation was pretty good, and the designs looked a lot better in motion. I didn't care much for the tone of the show, it felt like it was dumbed down for the little kiddies with the bad jokes from Johnny, and the constant bickering between Sue and Reed. They didn't even seem like the FF with Sue being so freaked out about Johnny dissapearing, and Johnny being pretty much a useless idiot that gets the team into trouble instead of being a usefull member. I hope the show gets better, but that IMO wasn't the best episode to start with.

Are you comparing this series with the movie version of the F4? It sounds like it ... I like this take on them and am glad that it does not fall in line, completely, with the movie... they really should not be compared.

Eh. I like comparing them because a)this whole thing got kickstarted because of the movie (even Doom resembles his movie counterpart more than his comic book self) and b)the characters' personalities resemble their toned down movie versions much more (or in Johnny's case, toned up)...I couldn't help but think "This is probably like those Men in Black and Godzilla cartoons that were unofficial continuations".

I didn't care for the "anime'" approach they seem to be taking with the series. I hate anime'! But since it costs me nothing, I'll keep watching it and hope it improves. I would've liked the 1st episode to have been the origin story as well.

Well not just the movie, but all versions of FF. Since it is FF I couldn't help but to look for certain things that are pretty standard in any FF project, and I think they had some good things but they also had some bad things. Overall I didn't expect it to be like the movie or any other version of the FF. I'm completely open to new and different takes on these characters, I just didn't really care for what I saw out of the first episode of this new series. I think it still has potential though and I hope it gets better.

Not bad....a lot better than i was expecting...thought Ronan &The Supreme intelligence were both done well... Looking forward to the Dr. Doom & Hulk appearances....hope to eventually see The Inhumans, Super Skrull, and Frightful Four...(they probably wont use Galactus/Silver Surfer until NEXT season, assuming the show lasts...) Oh yeah; thought The Fantasticar rocked!

I was pleasantly surprised. Action was pretty cool, and as much as I don't like anime, its better than most of the other stuff out there. I think its something that can definatly get better as it goes on.

My only real complaint is Sue. She pretty much seemed crazy and angry. Not really what I'd think of Sue being.

Wow, I didn't think it would be possible to suck any worse than the movie until I just now watched this. I kept waiting for a pikachu to crawl out of someones ass. Who's lame ass decision was it to spray paint a 4 on Things chest and do this in perhaps the worst art style possible. Marvel doesn't even give a **** anymore. It's sickening...

Hard (for me anyway) to disagree with a single scathing word.

The pointy chins, the "emo" hair, the painted 4, the rampant suckage...
It's just wrong.

The FF already have a spotty history in animation, and now they give us this "product."
Sad days.

Damn, I missed it, does anyone know when the first episode will air again? I know Cartoon Network likes to repeat all of their new stuff.

I loved that Godzilla toon. Got like 6 episodes on DVD.

too bad i dont catch the channel i really wanted to see it,anyone take screen grabs?

So did the Thing really have that ******ed grafitti on his chest the whole time?

Actually, he wore a tux for most of the episode. Regardless, I think that there will be better reasons for hating this show than Ben's 4. Not to say that I think the series sucks, but let's not kid ourselves. All superhero toons these days are aimed primarally at little kids who are too young to know how formulaic they are. Though JLU was pretty exceptional and X-M:E got better every season.

First off, did anybody else notice how the voices sometimes sounded like they were being sPoken into a tin can? I hope this is only exclusive to the one episode or a few only.

I thought it was just my TV.

There need to be some serious improvements if this cartoon is going to stay on tv for more than a season:down

ANOTHER topic on this show? Oh, okay. I'll repost some thoughts.

It takes barely a minute to realize that we're deep in anime territory here. This show wants to be anime so bad that it copies all of the best and worst parts of same. The downside of this is that mouths flap almost at random when characters talk, non-action scenes are often animated in an incredibly stilted fashion that might consist of three or four frames, and you'll even get those dreaded crowd shots where nobody's moving and we only hear generic crowd noise. On the upside, action sequences are very fluid to watch, and the backgrounds and vehicles are elaborately designed beyond most anything you'd find on American shores.

Once you've adjusted to the fact that you're watching a show that was made in France for airing in America that nevertheless desperately wants to be Japanese, you'll notice that there ARE some real highlights here. The aforementioned backgrounds and vehicles put this show heavily into the realm of sci-fi. Despite the fact that most of the city looks like a modern metropolis, the Baxter Building is a pillar of technology complete with a holographic "4" spinning overhead. Reed's lab is like stepping onto an alien world, where we can easily see just how far beyond the constraints of the human mind he can travel. The look of the characters, while unlike anything we've seen before, is a pretty cool one... and when it comes to the characters themselves, all of the guys come off perfectly.

There are still some issues, though. Sue comes off as an angry little psycho pretty much all the time, although that might just be for this one episode because of how they're characterizing her concern for her brother, but it's still totally wrong for her. Johnny, when he's not "flamed on", looks... weeeeiiird. I mean, the brother's even got those ridiculous little tails over his ears.

Suffice it to say that this first episode is okay entertainment, but not great. As an FF fan, naturally I'm sold on sticking with it, but newcomers could easily have been turned off by what's presented here. The storyline offers nothing really different from what you might see on lots of other cartoons, even calling to mind "In Blackest Night" from Justice League. There are certain moments (specifically the pair of scenes with Ben at a charity function) that come off as incredibly lame, making you question the writers' sense of humor. And the whole thing feels too fast, too awkward - perhaps partly because we're interrupting the action at the wrong point. This wasn't supposed to be the first episode, it was the second... and you can FEEL that.

Long-time fans of the characters will catch some little touches such as Ben calling Johnny "Matchstick," a momentary flashback to Ben getting one of the dreaded "Yancy Street Gang" packages from Johnny, and of course, the pointed mention of the Skrulls.

Eh... the animation wasn't terrible and it wasn't great.

Reed was a little too indecisive, Johnny was too carefree.

Hard to say if that's going to be standard characterization for Sue... but it certainly established that she's not the weak link from the '60's era comics.

The character designs weren't all that troubling, but then it's all a matter of taste at that point.

In the end, it's geared towards a pre-teen audience... so if they like it, it's done its job.

I missed the first episode. Does anyone know when it will be replayed?

I saw it when it first premeired. i thought it was good. considering i've never seen the 60's or 90's cartoon really.

A shame.Ive seen the 1960`s cartoon,in later re-airings of it.But i saw the 1990`s version. From what i am seeing so far, this new FF can really be something.People just need to give it a little time and just watch it.

Is this going to be on Itunes soon?

Why would it? I don't believe anything about that has been announced. No, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Who remembers this version of the FF television cartoon ?

" Reed Richards with the power to stretch, The Thing with the stregnth of 1,000 men, Johnny, Flame On Torch, and Sue the Invisable Girl. "
