A lot of people are complaining about the lack of racing in this movie..

I'd say, ****!

I mean, after watching the last 4 movies, I think there's not much else they can do to make racing seem all that exciting, and original, and fresh and I'm completely okay with them going into a slightly new direction in this movie.

I agree. I mean street racing isn't as cool or edgy as it was in 2001. After a while seeing street racing in the movie gets dull. I am glad they took a new approach.

I'm not surprised at how well the midnight shows are doing. I saw this in a crowded theater, with pretty much 70% teenagers, with many of which were pretty loud and obnoxious.

I even got to the theater later than I usually do and walked in around 11:30 and the theater was already like 70% full.

The movie is just sooo accessible and just so much ridiculous fun, it's pretty hard for any action-movie lover of any age to pass up.

I am 23 so I know the crowd is going to be around my age or teenagers with some older folks thrown in. Sometimes it's fun to see a movie like this with a big crowd of people. Some of the most fun timed I have had at the movies have come from seeing movies with sold out crowds.

It's just that usually they don't give positive reviews to a fifth in a mindless series about Car racing.

I'm personally not too interested in the film as I disliked the fourth film (it was boring) but I do want to see The Rock and Vin fight.

i'm glad they've taken this direction with the story...street racing was only the beginning for these characters...as The Rock explains it...they are "career criminals" in the trailer. And looking back at atleast 3 movies that involved the major character's development...if none of it worked, then by the time the 5th movie was ready....they'd be scrambling to win fans back with the street racing angle and dragging this dead horse along. I think it goes to show that audiences and fans of this series in particular were fans of the characters. Otherwise these movies would've been done if that last one failed. Putting the characters in these more action oriented stories fits them now.

Check it out.....do not let Fast and Furious affect you seeing this...its a must see if you have a liking for the franchise

Those people have the right tp complain, seeing that's what the films are about. How would you feel having a superhero film do away with the heroics. Don't even try to say "that's different" because it's not. Did you ever think if they can't make the racing 'original,and fresh' then maybe, just maybe it's time to call it quits on the franchise.

Lol, where do you live? Street racing is alive and well. Don't let those posers who went out and purchased APC wings and ricer mods from walmart confuse you. Sorry people, but those of you complaining about street racing being dull in the franchise just need to quit watching it. I know I've said this multiple times, but its the same as me saying "superheroes fighting villains is dull. Time to take it in a different direction."

Yep! My thoughts exactly. Plus, the director even said he's trying to take this series in a different direction and make them heist films. Which I don't mind at all.

I live in southern Virginia. Yes street racing is still going on but maybe it's just me that has gotten a little tired of it. I had some friends who street raced. I even did one race just to say I did it. It was exciting and stupid but it was cool at the time. I quess now that I am a little older (23) I don't crazy stuff like that anymore. LOL but were I live street racing really piked after 2 fast 2 furious came out.

Well, it's not like taking 'all the heroics' out of a superhero film is it? He said there were still races in the film, just not as many. So, it would be more like a superhero film with less action scenes in it, and more of a focus on character drama, and there have been good examples of that , Unbreakable being one.
