So, i'm a huge fan of metal. Mainly modern and power metal. But also some hard rock or southern based rock.

I'd say some of my favorites right now are Megadeth, Amorphis and Killswitch Engage for straight up metal. For power metal, probably more like Blind Guardian and Theocracy. Speaking of...their new album is pretty amazing. Totally recommend it. I also like Third Day when I want some southern sound and modern mixed with 80's I dig Blessed with a Broken Heart

Anyone else?

My three main types of music are hard rock/alternative, ambient and electronica. My fav band right now is The Birthday Massacre.

I hate it when people say "I like everything!" Most of us do, but you definitely like some music more than others.

YES!! I totally agree with this. Usually when people say that I respond with "Oh, so what death metal bands do you like?" And they are like "uh...I don't like death metal"

THEN I GUESS YOU DON'T LIKE EVERYTHING DO YOU!
:P

Countdown to "I like everything except [blank]" post...

I like most of Eminem's music.

Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park are some of my favorite bands.

I also like instrumental stuff like movie and videogame scores.

Hans Zimmer
James Newton Howard
Daft Punk (I know they're a band, but the score of Tron: Legacy and "One More Time" are the only things I heard from them. I should pick up one of their CDs.)

I also like Jun Senoue and Cash Cash's contributions to the Sonic the Hedgehog videogames.

I'm not sure who does the score for Kingdom Hearts, but there's some really good orchestral pieces in each game.

Favorite genres: Metal (specifically Thrash/Nu-Metal these days) Rock, Electronica, Dubstep, Classical.

Oh, and John Williams. :D

Right now my favorite genre is definitely rock, which includes modern rock, alternative, punk rock, grunge rock, and classic rock. About the only rock that I'm lukewarm about is heavy metal.

My favorite bands included Foo Fighters, RHCP, Rise Against, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Linkin Park, etc.

Brilliant! I'm using that line the next time I hear someone say that.

While we're on this subject, it reminds me of this Onion article from 1998. Some of the references are a bit dated, but I think it really pins down this type of person:

I Like All Kinds of Music!

By Michelle Carney
Music Lover

When I go to the mall for music, you won't catch me stuck in just one section of Record Town. That's because I like all kinds of music!

Just yesterday, I was in the car with a girlfriend, and she asked me what kind of music she should play, so I told her that anything at all was just fine with me. After all, I like everything from Billy Joel to Elton John to Jewel.

But that's not all by a long shot: One day I'll be in the mood for rock and roll, so I'll put on the new Fleetwood Mac album, and the next I'll feel like classical, so I'll reach for the Titanic soundtrack. I even listen to jazz, like that hunk Kenny G.

I've also really been getting into that new "alternative" music after hearing it on Melrose Place and in that Volkswagen commercial. There's this one alternative song I heard last time I was eating at Denny's, and I just fell in love with it. I don't know who it's by, but it goes, "What if God was one of us?" It was so deep.

On a typical day at home, I might listen to a Celine Dion CD, then watch a few videos on VH1, and then turn the channel to line-dancing on the Nashville Network while I do the dishes. You see, I have what is called an eclectic personality.

My husband isn't half the music lover I am, so when I bought a new oak cabinet for our stereo last year, he complained that I was throwing our money away. It was kind of expensive, but I just had to have a cabinet that matched the furniture in our day room. One of my matching oak CD towers is almost half full, and I'll be getting six more CDs in the mail because I just joined the BMG Music Club.

When I was filling out the enrollment form, I had a pretty hard time deciding which box to check to indicate my favorite type of music. I went ahead and checked the section that had Sheryl Crow in it, because I really like that one song she does.

I like music so much that when I'm at work at the insurance agency, I keep the radio on all day. Unfortunately, last week, my love of music resulted in a very unpleasant run-in with a typist from the temp agency. Personally, I can't imagine how my music could have possibly bothered her, as we have an office rule that the volume dial goes no higher than three.

It was Thursday afternoon, and I was listening to the Christian Contemporary station when the temp started making wisecracks about the music. I changed the station to Lite 107-FM, but then she began to groan loudly at the start of every song.

The last straw came when she shouted "Oh, God!" when The Carpenters' "Close To You" came on. I finally just turned the darn radio off altogether. One thing I can't understand is someone who hates music.

The moral of this story: people who say they like all kinds of music don't generally listen to a lot of music, or will listen to whatever they hear from mainstream pop culture.

I mean, even though my favourite genre is metal, I also listen to classical, jazz, folk, blues, country, hip-hop, "rock", opera and even pop. I could easily say I "like everything"...but I don't. I just have broad tastes, but I can identify them, whereas most people who say they like all kinds of music can't.

I like some music from all across the genre spectrum, and don't typically know the names of (or the people behind) every piece I like.

Grunge/90s Alternative: Nirvana, Hole, Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots

Metal: System of a Down, Bullet for my Valentine, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Megadeth, Korn, Bring Me The Horizon, Murderdolls, Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold

Other stuff: The White Stripes, Sublime, RHCP, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses, Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, My Chemical Romance, Pixies

Mostly electronica, hip hop, pop, and occasionally some rock, though not as much anymore. Of course I like lots of other stuff to varying degrees as well. The only genre that I cannot stand is country. It's just pop rock for hillbillies. You want to play some bluegrass? Southern rock? Great. I'm down. Just no country please.

Blink-182
Arctic Monkeys
Amanda Palmer
Beck
Brand New
The Aquabats
Talking Heads
Park
The Velvet Underground
Mindless Self Indulgence
Ke$ha
The Starting Line

I never would have expected to, but I'm really getting into this modern bluegrass/alternative movement. Bands like Mumford & Sons, The Avett Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show...

Beyond that, mostly alternative rock. The White Stripes, Cold War Kids, Delta Spirit, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.

And, classic singer-songwriters. Your Dylans, Simon & Garfunkels, Chapins, Taylors, what have you.

I like everything.

:yay:

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen, Tegan & Sara, Kid Cudi, Empire of the Sun, The xx, and Eminem, just to list a few.

I like listening to a little bit of R&B, Rap, Classic Rock, Funk, and whatever's in the Top 40 at the moment. I don't normally listen to Country, but a co-worker of mine has given me an appreciation for Hank Williams III (mostly by playing nothing but his music for an entire couple of shifts in a row).

My three favourite bands of all time are probably The Doors, The Clash and Led Zeppelin.

Alternative: Weezer, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Oasis, The Pixies, The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire, The Hold Steady, The Gaslight Anthem, The Replacements, The Black Keys, Fountains of Wayne, Muse, Beck, Gnarls Barkley

Punk: Bouncing Souls, Dropkick Murphys, Superchunk, Smoking Popes, Millencolin, MxPx, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Social Distortion, The Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, Jawbreaker, Rancid, The Offspring

Ska: Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Mad Caddies, The Toasters, Fishbone, Mustard Plug, MU330, The Suicide Machines

Hip Hop: Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang Clan, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Dr. Dre, Outkast, Jurassic 5, Mos Def, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Clipse, Digable Planets, Das Racist, Childish Gambino

Those genres are what I primarily listen to. Alternative is my favorite genre; I love all the decades of it more or less equally. Hip hop is something I've really gotten into in more recent years, so I'm still kind of exploring all that's out there. Punk and ska were the things I listened to most in high school and undergrad, so I still love them, even though I don't listen to them quite as much now.

A few of my other favorite bands are Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Rush, and The Beatles.
