The Beatles

Happiness Is A Warm Gun - One of the darkest and strangest Beatles songs, the lyrics are intense, and the bass line and vocal harmonies are hard to beat.
Michelle - Once again, that insufferable bass line, plus some of the most pleasant vocals around.
You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) - THE weirdest Beatles recording, period. 'Nuff said.

The Animals

See See Rider - Pure raw energy poured into a song.
Poem By The Sea - With self-deprecating lyrics as black as night, stark vocals from the great bluesman Eric Burdon, and some sick musicians thrown in for good measure.
Good Times - Retrospective lyrics keep this one in the top spot for me. They speak to anyone who ever went down the wrong path.

The Kinks

Waterloo Sunset - One of, if not, the most gorgeous songs ever recorded. Bar none.
Holiday Romance - Fun, whimsical, and fantastical.
Well Respected Man - A great, driving beat with great, intelligent lyrics from the brilliant mind of Ray Davies.

Wilco

I am trying to break your heart - Side by side with Waterloo Sunset for the top spot. A thing of pure beauty.
Heavy Metal Drummer - A perfect beat if I ever heard one, never mind the wonderfully catchy jingle-jangle.
Hate It Here - Sang to perfection by Jeff Tweedy, this song is raw and in your face. It brings the pain, for sure.

Small Faces

Lazy Sunday - A joyous romp through the British countryside!

Great choices!!! Especially with Quicksand.

Why thank you much...

Although, you broke my heart skipping Jimmy Cliff. I'm too old for scene titles anymore, but I suppose I'll always be somewhat of a Rude Boy. :oldrazz:

Quicksand is the single most underrated band that ever existed. I was fortunate enough to see them play a lot in the early 90s because I was entrenched in the NY HC scene. Besides, Gorilla Biscuits... it's an easy transition.

Negative Approach were great. Good choice. Same with Bad Brains before the wierd Rastafarian conversion thing... and I actually like Reggae, but that was just strange.

amen. wilco is amazing.

This is a great opportunity for those of you seeking new music to hear songs/bands you may have never heard before. See someone with similar tastes to your own, stream (or download) the stuff they like that you haven't heard.

OK Go - Invincible = Great song! Thanks for sharing. :)

I used to work with the duaghter of one of the guys from The Animals. I can't remember which one was her dad though.

I was fortunate to see Quicksand a few times in Detroit, though unfortuantly I missed Gorilla Biscuits (reunion show). Walter Shreifels is underrated in general.

The Negative Approach reunion show in Detroit is easily the most excited I've been for or at a show in my entire life.

The Ramones
  • The Return of Jackie and Judy. There's also a Tom Waits cover of this on on "We're a happy family-A tribute to The Ramones" that I love, probably more than the original, because seriously, who woulda thunk it?
  • Rockaway Beach. The lyrics are just way too ****ing catchy, and again there's another damn good cover by Sahara Hotnights, on the album "The Song Ramones the Same".
  • Spider-Man. Cause, really. Duh.
The Dresden Dolls
  • Missed Me. There's something really eerie and creepy, yet melodic about it. Kinda reminds me of a Joker/Harley relationship
  • Sex Changes. The pacing and movement in the song is great, and I know this isn't exactly a musical point, but I always like the way she says "They always said that sex would change you...."
  • Science Fiction Double Feature. Sure, it's a cover, but for what it's worth, if you like Dresden or Rocky Horror, this is one of the ones you'll probably like best. Check it out on Youtube, if you're feeling froggy.
Beastie Boys
  • Intergalactic. Probably more sentiment than anything, but I remember one of the rock stations back home getting so many requests for this songplaying this, that it played it, every song, for an entire weekend, then vowed to never play it again. Ironically, they "changed formats" [read-were bought out and still played the same thing], and my friend called and made the first request "Intergalactic".
  • Girls. It's got a ****ing xylophone. That's almost as hardcore as covering the Underdog theme with a ukulele and a kazoo. Oh, wait that's already been done.
  • Paul Revere. I really can't explain this one.
Jack off Jill
  • Devil with the black dress. The lyrics really kinda make smirk.
  • Horrible. More good lyrics, and really, as far as I'm concerned, this is the official "Toven" theme song.
  • *** Dumpster. The song that introduced me to the group.
She Wants Revenge
  • Sister. One of their best, I think.
  • These things. Another great one. Their unique sound really comes through here.
  • Red Flags And Long Nights. I just love the lyrics. The song is great, too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is just a list of my current faves, I tend to migrate through different groups/genres.
