I am currently under the weather and was thinking back to when I was a kid, I had Movies that I would always watch when I was sick, to they point that it was almost like ritual that I would bust them out while I laid in agony on the living room sofa.

I seemed to need to watch the Indiana Jones trilogy ( thank god I was a kid before the 4th one) and often times I needed at least one of the OT Star Wars if not all of em (also grateful that I was a kid before the sequels came out).

I'm pretty sure, although I can't prove it, but having a favorite movie routine when sick has mystical healing properties...

Anyone else have some that they would like to share... or maybe call me out as the only person that does this...

Right with you, Empire Strikes Back is my cure all for all sickeness or bouts of depression

Also the Power Ranger movie with Ivan Ooze.

there is something about empire that is the perfect sick movie, like when vader and luke feel each other through the force... something stirs inside you... like your health is reaching out through the force to you and you cant do anything about it because your stuck on the millennium falcon of sickness.

It's a proven fact that Empire Strikes Back, followed by Back To The Future 1 cures any sickness.

I came in here to say the Star Wars trilogy, but it looks like its helped other people, too.

Spider-Man definitely. Whenever I skip or if I'm sick (which happens very rarely) I watch that film.

Notting Hill has that mayonnaise scene i don't know if that would work with all illnesses, luckily mine is an injury this time...

Ive grown ever fonder of Amelie as a sick movie as I have gotten older and realized that romance actually doesn't ruin a movie. That and I am a somewhat embarrased to say but I have a soft spot for Murder by Death. Truman Copote and obi wan kenobi in one movie say no more... plus it has some great one liners

and often i like a little rustlers rhapsody but that all depends on the kind of sickness i have to be in the right mode for that one.

I was totally going to come in here with a bunch of 70's explotation, and torture porn films (like Hostel)...but this works too.

Always perks me up.

ha I recently rewatched the peter jackson remake and already its falling apart as time goes on. there was something just completely off about the remake, like there was 6 movies all mushed together and non of them really complemented the other parts.

Plus the bug scene where they are swinging around on ropes shooting machine guns at the bugs on people, either is a testament to those characters masterful aim and skill or was the inspiration for shia lebeouf's tree swinging, rocket pack scene in Indy 4.

PJ's Kong is a decent remake. It is very faithful and well made, and you can tell he cared a lot about the original film while he was making it. I like it for what it is. I also give it credit for actually introducing me to the original. I saw the remake in 2005, with my dad, and at the time it blew my mind. So, I made my dad rush to the store to buy me the original on DVD a few days later. I saw it, and my life changed. It made me want to make movies for a living.

So yeah, the 1933 classic is timeless, and will never get dull. I've watched it at least 25 times and I never, ever get tired of it. It's a true testament to the power of imagination and filmmaking.

PJ's remake suffered from trying to do too much. I understand that he was a fan, and that he had big plans for the movie. But it ultimately felt over-stuffed. It is an entertaining film, though. And following the production of King Kong was one of my favorite experiences thanks to those fantastic production diaries.

To answer the original question:

Jurassic Park
Lost World: Jurassic Park
King Kong 1933
Independence Day
Godzilla 1998 (I was a kid. I didn't know any better.)

I used to watch Mortal Kombat Annihilation a lot when I was sick as a kid. Looking back on it, I really wonder what my problem was.

Not really a movie... but I watched X-Men The Animated Series when I was sick and I felt better

Star Wars trilogy but sometimes I'll watch the Rocky movies.

^ another super good sick movie, I don't see enough of the dread pirate roberts when I'm feeling bad or when I'm feeling good. Little disappointed to see people rediscovering that movie though, I guess I selfishly wanted to keep it as unknown about as possible… like a trump card or precious jewels or something.

Superman and Spider-Man always cheers me up so I would say those movies.

Might have to watch The Empire Strikes Back today. It was a long night last night.
