Movies that were so popular by being likes and talked about that you got sick of...

i am suprised that this is not the star wars prequel and titanic ''bash'' thread. i guess those are to old.

so lets focus on the last big money maker. ohhh its TDK.

I think the Transformers movies deserve more scrutiny but somehow they get a free pass from a lot of people because critics bashed them. This doesn't change the fact that they represent a dumbing down of the population and deserve every bit of bashing imaginable.

i call BS on that. the whole purpose of transformers is to have good looking girls(everywhere) and big robots fighting on big scale. if people want to watch this then why not.
D9 made a lot of money this summer. isnt this good? LOTR made a lot of money. isnt this good? i am talking here about big budget movies. why would for example Moon make 400 millions domestic? it was not meant to be a blockbuster.

it doesnt happen a lot of times that a studio spends over 100 millions on a movie that focuses only on an inteligent script without any action. fanboys on a forum like SHH think that Watchmen can make a profit. every guy who knows anything about the BO and those type of movies said what would happen. and it did.

IMO :yay:

I knew Watchmen would flop. Like I said, the population has been systematically dumbed down to the point that most people have very short attention spans when they watch movies. I recently bought North By Northwest and I am confident that it would flop today. It's 2 hours, 16 minutes long and it focuses primarily on dialogue/story. It is an awesome movie but audiences today would be bored out of their minds with it.

By the way, my point about North By Northwest is directly related to the change in how the movie business works these days. That movie came out in July 1959. July is considered one of the primary "blockbuster" months of the year nowadays, meaning you had better have a bunch of special effects and a ton of action or your movie will likely flop in July. If you released a movie like North By Northwest today in July, it would surely flop. It's just amazing how low the standards have gotten. I blame Star Wars for introducing this obsession with special effects. :p

If I don't have a movie on DVD I still watch it whenever shown on TV for example Independence Day which was fun the first time I saw it but it's garbage now that FX always shows it.

maybe the big masses. but there are still big groups of people who like smart movies.

but yes it did change over the years. it also doesnt help that the parents think that the small kids are complete idiots. like last week i was reading that Up was to smart for kids. WTF? WTF? kids enjoyed UP and got what was in the mvie for them. all the emotional stuff was for the adults. its a win situation for everyone. but of course someone needs to be a smartass.

or what about Where the Wild things are? some said it was to dark for kids. in the name of good WTF.

I think Pixar is great at providing something for everyone. It's a shame that they are just about the only studio that isn't obsessed with the Transformers model. And for all the Batman fanboys that will point to Warner Brothers, need I remind you of the studio's vision of the character? Batman & Robin.
