I've never seen the Ruby Spears. I'm surprised because it came out when I was of age to gobble it up. Maybe I don't remember it...

Is it worth a watch?

Also, I've alway dug his look on The Batman

^ I dont' care much for Supes' cape draping over his shoulders. I think he looks broader and more like superman with it behind IMO:

No Legion of superheroes superman? people always seem to forget that LOSH was a superman cartoon through and through.

Yeah that show was awesome aswell, they need to release Season 2.

Superman in both seasons looked superb on that show. I liked how he was older in Season Two.

Also who can forget Superman X he was badass.

I never cared for LOSH. Was hardly Superman to me after the first episode....wasn't too keen on the design either.

The show itself was hardly...anything unfortunately.
When the show was announced (it was a tie in to superman returns) I was ecstatic because the LOSH were a HUGE part of the superman mythology for decades but it never got it's due in the media.
Then the show came out and......well lets just say I was expecting something like the 'new kids in town' episode from STAS and instead we ended up with something akin to batman the brave and the bold:csad:

One thing that is hugely surprising to me is the fact that WB hasn't released an new animated superman show to tie in with MOS. I mean GL was a flop and they still made an animated show.
Has anyone heard anything about a new superman show?

Oh come on! It wasn't that bad. Or bad in general, imo. I believe it's underrated in DCAU. I liked how they handled Supes and Braniac 5's relationship and arcs on it. I got more out of that show than B&TB and this is coming from a Batman fan. I was saddened when LOSH got canceled b/c there was so much to explore, imo.

The show had its highlights (like the brainiac arc finale and episodes like who am I) but if you foolishly go into the show expecting DCAU quality like I did then you'd end up sorely disappointed.

Although the project was canned, what about these cartoony Jose Garcia Lopez inspired (in terms of the bold colors) JLAers, the Superman in particular of course - what do you guys think? I'd have been fine with a show like this:

Just curious as to what some think of the style...?

What is that from? Cool style.

I love the Young Justice design, I just wish they would make his hair a little longer and "wilder", more youthful. Just a little, so he doesn't look so prim all the time. The same goes for movies...

From what I've heard you probably didn't see it because they put it on at stupid O'clock

I think its crap theres no action in it really as they weren't allowed to do violence.

Yeah, I too was expecting something akin to "New Kids in Town" and I was massively disappointed. I thought the show sucked honestly. I actually prefer Brave and the Bold to it and think it's a much better show.

And I too am surprised there's been virtually no Superman show for YEARS now. I heard there were plans for a Batman/Superman teamup show and I'd have loved that even if it were a comedy - I just want something at this point.

GL was terrible and the cg animated show was pretty bad too but even GL got that. Hopefully we'll see something new in the next couple of years with the next movie on the way....a Batman and Superman teamup is kind of a really big deal.

I have to say I disagree with you there, I don't just want any run of the mill show because superman never lacked exposure (infact superman was on TV consistently for 22 years starting from the ruby spears cartoons and superboy tv show in the late 80's and ending with smallville in 2010 not to mention that we've been getting a superman DTV animated movie every year since 2007). The real problem is that superman is rarely portrayed properly (with the exception of STAS) and for the character to become number 1 again people need to associate it with quality.

Kevin Smith had an interview with Paul Dini who stated that cartoon network seems to be gearing towards a much younger audience now hence why shows like beware the batman, GL and thudercats all got canned while silly shows like teen titans continue to thrive. The network feels that superheroes are "too old" and they want their shows to aim at little boys (and not girls) because these are the audience that buy action figures.
And if you look at shows like avengers, hulk and Ultimate spiderman they're all geared towards little kids. If that's the case I'd rather not have a superman show at all.

GL was terrible and the cg animated show was pretty bad too but even GL got that. Hopefully we'll see something new in the next couple of years with the next movie on the way....a Batman and Superman teamup is kind of a really big deal.

I actually liked GL TAS and I also enjoyed beware the batman but the only superman show I want is a Greg Weisman (creator of Gargolyes, young justice and spectacular spiderman) produced superman show that predates YJ by 10 years (apparently in the YJ universe superman was around for about 10 years).
As for superman-batman team up show, well I think we dodged a bullet with that one, I mean the premise for that show was just awful!
But with MOS2 there is bound to be an animated show in the next 2 years or so.

Holy crap, the waist-size proportion on that Superman is ludicrously small. How is his stacked upper body supposed to be held up by that robot-thin waist? :oldrazz: And the feet & lower legs are way off too!

I voted Fleischer. There's something charming about that Superman.

I really liked the Superman Batman Apocalypse Superman design.

I think they should make a animated MOS series, and this is what I think Superman should look like in it.

Superman looked lame early on in JL TAS, but as the show progressed, I liked his look a lot more. I still think i prefer S: TAS design tho

Damn the Timmverse is seriously so amazing. That's my happy place honestly. Nothing makes me more comfortable than watching JL, Batman Beyond, Btas or STAS (i was born in the mid 90s)

Unfortunately if they did make a new Superman show it would look more like this:

Classic animation is dying out and it's really sad.

I've barely seen any of those but the Superman TAS looks too "cartoonish" for me. I like cartoons that attempted to make them look as much like real people as possible. I don't like whatever the look is called of cartoons that look like the cartoons from TAS for example. It could A) literally look like anyone because there are very few definitive features. Clark looks just like Bruce Wayne, etc. They can only be told apart from their clothing. I love the type of cartoons for example from King of the Hill where every character (although not particularly drawn to look as realistic as possible for a pencil cartoon) actually have a unique look to them, etc. For example, Hank does not look like Bill, etc.

I mean, no offense to those who like the animation, but those 2 faces look like anyone, and look a lot like each other.

That being said, these are my favorite looking Superman cartoons:

That's not an uncommon criticism about the Bruce Timm cartoons, Timm himself even commented on it though and said here he thought they were supposed to be making cartoons - so it's okay for them to look "cartoony", it works with the strengths of animation as opposed to against them. The whole point of those designs was to streamline the looks, the more you have to draw to illustrate folds in clothing, muscle definition, etc, the more likely you are to get crappy animation was the case back then, you'd have to redraw the same images 20 times with slight variations for one second of animation. I always thought they were pretty easy to distinguish in the animated shows, and in the comics, Bruce and Clark do look alike somewhat anyway.

The MOS design was pretty good. I wonder what the STAS design would look like with that suit
