Feb 2007 CW Solicits

i dont think the costume has any bearing on his growing(apart maybe from unstable molecules so he dont end up naked everytime he grows or shrinks...it's the pym particles that make him grow/shrink..not the costume.

Right, but he only tends to do one or the other depending on which costume/persona he's in. In reality, he could grow while dressed up as Ant-Man right?

yeah should be able to do...i think he actually used to didnt he...go from giant man to ant man...im sure ive seen that before...

I'm surprised they haven't done what DC likes to do and say that "prolonged exposure to Pym particles have granted him the ability to shrink/grow unassisted".

- Again, not surprised Marvel is milking CW. Why not? They milk everything else to death once it becomes "sellable".

- Marvel puts Mark Brooks, the artist seemingly being geared to replace Magley on USM with two annuals under his belt...onto UFF. Makes sense...in Bizarro World.

- Speaking of Bizarro World, no hint of RUNAWAYS #25, which is supposed to launch in Feb. with the brand-spanking new team of Whedon and Ryan. Considering every single one of Whedon's comics, somehow, some way, is late, does this bode poorly? And I am not saying I don't believe Whedon when he claims that his late books aren't his fault. It's just that some writers "magically" always happen to get onto books that are always late. Mark Millar and Heinberg are two more examples. Of course it's not their fault. :o But you can't ignore the results. It's like, if a bird dumps on you every time you walk on a particular street, you will associate that street with getting bird-crapped on.

- Glad Marvel is getting the hint and having some solicts be classified. Hey, that means it only takes them 4 years to learn something!

- Speaking of milking, they're naturally all up SPIDER-MAN 3's arse almost worse than DC rammed in for SUPERMAN RETURNS. Raimi can literally feel Joe Q's tongue at the back of his throat, I hear.

- ANT-MAN & DR. STRANGE: OATH are still lookin' great. The OATH crew really need to stick with a Dr. Strange ongoing; that mini is to Strange what MADROX was to Multiple Man, IMO.

- I'm getting weary of USM issues "trying to shock me" and am waiting for them to simply get good again. If I wanted shocks, I'd lick my finger and stick it in an outlet. I read comics to be amused and entertained. The writing dept. more than the art is what needs new blood on USM, methinks.

- No mention of an ASTONISHING X-MEN issue, as it has quietly gone back to a bimonthly schedule; issue #17 came out Sept. 24th and #18 is coming out Nov. 15th, just a week shy of 2 months. So much for another Joe Q promise, much as in late 2005 he promised that adverts would never become "overwhelming or distracting", and now that they're back in 21+ page force and even interupting 2-page splashes (done by artists who, of course, are weeks late with an issue but always find time for a mag cover somewhere), Joe's answer is, "Well, basically this'll always happen because we cashed the ad's checks, so just shut up and keep buying, fanboy." I am waiting for the day that Joe will realize that he'd be a helluva lot more well liked if he simply didn't make promises or schedules that he knows damn well can't be kept. He first is overly optimistic and then when he tries to get "realistic", which is always months after the fact, naturally the backlash is worse than it has to be. Much like our dear President, he just doesn't know how to talk to people when it's not behind a closed door, methinks.

And incidentally, this will mean that Astonishing's "Just Killing Time with Emma Mind Farts while we gear for the NEXT arc that actually matters" will have lasted in at 10 months and counting...for a story that at 6 parts reads decompressed. Only ravenous diehards, the souls who would cheer on Whedon no matter what, don't see this as a problem.

Brooks isn't replacing Bagley.

Oh, I know. Immonen is. Just some of us at the boards saw Brooks as the preferred artist to take over on USM and therefore, Marvel all but bent over backwards to see that never happened. Weeks before Immonen was announced, Marvel literally said, "the new artist for USM next year isn't ready to be announced...but it's NOT MARK BROOKS!" So after that, the concept of Brooks getting on UFF, a title that he wasn't being prepped for with annuals and that the fans honestly weren't begging to see him on just looks wiggy. I'm sure both books'll be pretty, and Bendis is the one losing steam on USM, not Bagley. But whatever. I just sometimes feel Marvel tries too hard to "shock" or "surprise" fans rather than give them what they bloody want for once in a while, and sometimes this makes life harder than it has to be for the House that Stan Built.

Oh, ok. I did want Brooks as the new artist, his work on the USM Annual fit well and looked a bit like Bagleys. I wasn't to happy with this Immonen guy, so right now I don't know what I'm going to do once he draws for USM. If it's good then I'll keep it in my pull list. If not, then i'll drop it. Bagley's art made USM, and really I hate to see him go.

Wait...you aren't even familiar with Immomen's art?

I am, just don't want him for USM. But i'll give it a chance for sure.

Thoughts;

Spider-Man is back in black. oh... in other news Spider-Man: Reign seems to be one of the most interesting things Marvel have done with the character in years, really am looking forward to buying it.

Civil War ending, and a billion tie ins which I won't be getting. I really can't imagine Civil War to be so interesting that you could read all those tie ins and still enjoy it. I find just reading the Civil War book annoying enough.

Another event hat Marvel is throwing oone shots out from is Annihilation. Except, it doesn't seem as forced for some reason, maybe my love for it is just clowding judgement. I've always found the Heralds interesting so I'm looking forward to the Heralds oneshot.

Doctor Strange: Oath #5 cover is excellent. I've loved what I have read so far, Marvel really should consider making it an ongoing.

Eternals has one more issue than originally planned. Can only be a good thing. What I like is that it is tying up to current events at the moment without it being a direct cross-in with Civil War.

Ant-Man I'm also looking forward too. The solit is amusing enough for me to really want to read the issue, just love that Kirby Ant-Man costume.

Silent War comes along with an another event and yeah, I'm very excited for it. The cover art is really great too.

Was it ever confirmed that Whedon's run on Runaways would definitely launch in February, or was it just fan speculation that he'd immediately take over without any break in between? I don't remember seeing any confirmation as to when he has a start date.

And Astonishing #20 actually is listed as coming out in early February, it just wasn't included for some odd reason.

I'm kind of weary of that PWJ #4 solicit.I'm really psyched for this book, but hopefully the story has some direction.Stilt Man funeral sounds kind of silly.

Might check out Thunderbolts, but other than that, nothing else really wets my appetite.

I'm not sure about Thunderbolts. I love the idea of the return of Moonstone, and maybe Penance. But....ehhh... I hope Whedon's work with the Runaways doesn't have me crying for the return of the expansive waits of Iron Man.

wait. Stilt-Man gets an official funeral and Scott Lang gets his coffin tipped over in a Hercules mini?!! [insert profanity-laden tirade]

they have; a long time ago, iirc. even Scott Lang could do this shortly before he died (sans costume).

Haha! Olivetti only did the first 3 issues of PWJ.

No Iron Fist solict?

I think it'll be good. Fraction said Frank will be hunting down the villains in a way we haven't seen other heroes do. I can't wait for it, just look at what Frank did in Civil War #5.

I think he was just there for the Civil War tie-in. No prob though, Deodato is one I look forward to.

I don't know much about Stilt Man, but is he that respected that his funeral would have the likes of Dr Doom and Doctor Octopus in attendance??

I'm really liking the Romita Sr. cover for Daredevil. It looks fantastic.
