Fights that just didn't work for you

I can't even fathom why Spider-Man would pull his punches to the degree he supposedly did in the film, seeing how big a threat Ock was.

Because Spider-Man doesn't kill people. And because Doc Ock in the movie had A.I. wired into his brain and central nervous system. That would keep him from losing consciousness.

I still think they could do more. With the actual combat I mean. The stuff with the Batmobile and the 18 wheeler was gold, but I still think we need more of Batman himself kicking ass.
They can always do more, it's the magic of cinema, I guess, but in terms of Batman kicking ass, the scarecrow, the Hong Kong and the night club scenes really worked for me.

Second favorite excuse, but a clever one nonetheless.

I prefer that over the 'pulling punches' bit.

Has anyone mentioned the worst fight ever in superhero flick history?

Peter Parker vs. his manhood.

LOL, that's why I hope they flash forward the films about 5-10 years where Pete is experienced as a hero, married maybe, and completely into manhood.

Like I said, Spider-Man gave one blow to Doc Ock in his first appearance in the comics to knock him out. Obviously, it did not kill him. And I also said pull his punches to the degree that he did, not pull his punches in general. As in the degree that he is not knocking Doc Ock out and prolonging the fight and potentially endangering everyone by doing so. Obviously Doc Ocks' very first appearance proves Spidey can pull his punches and still deliver enough force to knock someone out.

I agree with Vile that the second excuse is pretty crafty.

That was the comic books. Spidey shot his webbing from mechanical webshooters in the comics, too. In the movies it's organic. I'm pretty sure Sandman cannot fly thru the air in a sand cloud in the comics.

They changed stuff with the powers in the movies.

And Ock's first appearance is actually the only time since that Spidey has ever knocked Ock out with one blow. I can post some scans where Spidey dealt blows on Ock and he remained conscious.

Heh, well it makes the most sense, IMO.

**** sympathetic villains. Why can't we have a natural badass that is evil, who kills/robs and enjoys it, who in contrast shows the good of the hero rather than a film where all the characters are grey, dull, and whiney lil *****es?

There are plenty of good people in these films. So let's have the bad guys actually be bad and not be spoon fed a load of sh** and sentimentality.

I am half agreeing with you, BTW. I'm just far enough away from the Spidey hype to see the sh** more clearly than I used to. I don't want to feel sorry for the villains - maybe a small explanation as to how they came to be would be ok - I want to hate them and love them because of how much I hate them. I want to be able to be fully invested in the hero beating the **** out of the villain without feeling any sympathy for them. At all.

I'm not wanting to go into the pictures in June to watch T4 and be fed a load of sh** about how skynet was abused when it was a toaster-oven, or how the T-800s just want to be friends and are misunderstood, sent back in time by mistake when ordering a taxi. I want to hate them so I can cheer the good guys on when they blow them to ****ing pieces.

**** sympathetic villains.

Whoa, I only came in here to say how much a dislike the end fight in Blade 2 :hehe:

I agreed with all of this until the end, how can you not like the fight at the end of Blade II? THE best CB movies fight IMO.

i didn't like how blade was all cocky at the end when he spend five minutes getting his ass kicked in.

nomak basically killed himself.

I still liked the fight itself. But when was he cocky?

when he limps up and flips his arms around, and grunts ...like's he's just taking care of business and hasn't had his head used to smash up a pillar...

I didn't take that as anything other than shaking it off; being glad that it was over. I think he'd rather have gone another round with La Magra than go through that again.

i was glad nomak beat the crap outta him, nomak was a character i liked. a simple but well developed villain

Could've been a little better developed, though. Some of his motivations-particularly his attempts to form an alliance with Blade-were a little unclear.

well true, there were actually an abundant of new characters that weren't 100% developed but considering the mass of them, they did a decent job within the timeframe. It's probably the most repeitive blade film to watch.

Now on that we agree. See? It happened again.
Oh-and no, that one disagreement didn't really leave a bad taste in my mouth or we wouldn't be talking now.

BB fights didn't really work for me, on the other hand TDK's more than made up for them. Nolan really stepped up his game imo.

Yea if I'm completely honest, all the fights in the new Bat films have left a lot to be desired for me. I wanna see Batman go toe to toe with someone who can actually stand up against him. Yea he fought Ra's and Joker, but they weren't exactly epic fights compared to other comic book movies. I wanna see a proper physical threat in the next Bat film. Deathstroke or Bane.

The camera work in those fights hasn't really helped, either.

Yea, that's one of the reasons. But my main problems is that there hasn't really been anyone who can match Batmans martial arts skills. Well there was Ra's but how long did that fight go on for? 3 minutes or something stupid like that? I wanna see a epic fight on a rain swept rooftop, jumping between buildings and what not. That's how I imagined Batman to fight in the comics.

And I'm not fond of his fighting style either. It looks too slow and I dunno, too choreographed? It doesn't look natural or bone crunching enough you know?

Part of that, I suspect, is him being weighted down by the armor.

Yea but the new suit is supposed to be more flexible and lighter, I thought that would of been translated to his fighting style. But he appears to be more slow and cumbersome in TDK than in BB.

And the fight scenes just look blatantly choreographed, people fall over before they are hit stuff like that.

I never got that impression. I thought the fight scenes in TDK were far superior to BB. I didn't think they were that bad at all, there just weren't very many of them.

Yeah I liked Batman's fights in TDK. The one in the club in particular. I like that he kind of isn't as fast as you'd want him to be because it looks like he puts a lot of force into his punches. Batman knocks people out with one punch a lot in TDK. None of that super fancy stuff, just boom, you're down!

Besides the fights I mentionned earlier (great sound too, for the first time it felt like Batman was breaking bones) I actually really liked his fights with the Joker.
The Joker fighting style was chaotic, dirty and unpredictable, it reminded me of the way Alex fights in Clockwork, and I loved it. It didn't feel like a stuntman, it felt like the Joker.
