Filmmaking Q & A

No. No one is finding out who slept with her. The start pretty much covers that two of the main 4 guys did sleep with her. The 3rd guy doesn't know and the last guy is head of his businesses and doesn't want this getting out. When it comes to his job he hold himself a high Prestige. He just got so drunk that he didn't care what was happening at the party at the time. It's moreless the first time he cut loose. The whole story is burying the dead body, but the mishaps along the way.
So they try to bury the body but stuff keeps happening from them doing it?

So I was wondering how do most of you go about getting actors for your projects, who you are not friends with. Do you put out a ad in the paper or something or perhaps even a listing on Craig's list?

I was wondering about this, because I was looking and scouting for a short film I was hoping of making which is based from a full length script of mine. And I am in need of a few actors. 3 to be exactly. 1 mid 20's male, 1 mid 20's female and 1 50 year old male.

Try places where group theaters take place.
College classes with drama classes.
Anywhere, where people do acting.

I don't know if this is true or not. But I was talking to some people on here (the lounge) and they said they aren't gonna wanna work for someone who can't help them somehow. By doing it for free and not being able to get credit it and being on their resume.

And then another person said this is not true.

And what if I don't know of any drama classes or college classes around me?

I don't think most people would have a problem being in short film for free. As long as you state that no pay before hand. If your just one guy with a crappy cam, then I don't think people would interested.

Before looking at actors, you gotta have the right stuff.

You got your script, so it's best to find locations, take pictures and plan your shots out.

Do you have a decent cam? Do you have transport? Do you need lights? How much are you going to spend? Is there colleges or theater groups by you?

Plan as much as you can before finding actors. Like you said, you are just one guy. Do you know anyone else who can give you a hand?

The best thing I can tell you is join or start a film making club. You never know, some people might want to film in your area. Find a place to meet and get to know people and get them to work with you. As a guy who sounds like he wants to be a director, you got search and find these people.

That's what the one person told me, to say there is no pay it in. And I am just one guy right now with a crappy cam for now.:o

Yeah, I have the opening scene of the full length script, and I think it can work as a short film to tell what the story will be about. It's about 7 pages long. I seen a few locations I go by all the time or places I think could work.

It's okay, but I could use better, but with little funds I have it'll due. If transport, you mean taking things from place to place, whoever is helping me would have to drive. Yeah, I need lights. How good or what kind would you need really? I don't know a 1000 dollars or so. I think the most would just be make up effects and a mold of a body. There is one college remotely near me, but they don't have a film program class.

Like I said, when I see things or places I like I remember them. I got stuff in my mind I know i want, so that's good. I had a friend who said he actually help me and was gonna be in it. But that was back in the end of May and were in the start of October. I call and call him and get his voice mail and receive a call back from him, so the hell with him then.

I don't know of any or where to even start one. There isn't a whole bunch of interest in making films from where I'm from or live. Mostly all just older people who want to live their life's on their normal 9 to 5 life.

I know I gotta search, that's why I'm asking those who are on the internet who have been in my same shoes and are looking for answers to figure this out. Cause it's just like I'm foaming at the mouth to do this, but yet I can't cause like you said and I said, I'm only one man.

Are you shooting a night or day? If day, you won't need lights. If night, buy a builders light for 15 dollars. They are powerful. Only thing is, you can't control the light, but still, it will do the job.

Go to that college anyway, and just put some flyers up or hold auditions.

I used to think no one was interested in filming where I lived, but I discovered people were, so do what you can to organize a meet up with people.

Where do you live?

It be at night time. A builders light is that one of those hand lights or what?

That's like 40 miles or so away from me and not anywhere near me.:csad:

Yeah, no matter how bad you have it where you live, atleast people wanna do what you wanna do. All people wanna do around here is smoke weed and drink beers.

Where do you live?
Bangor Pennsylvania. Which is a tiny, tiny town about 2 hours or so from Philly and 3 hours from NY.

Well it's different for me since I made some connections at school when it comes to getting actors. But if those connections don't work out, I go to the community college to see if anyone is interested. I check out the acting classes but I also ask people people who aren't actors if they would be interested. I find those types to be more accepting of the idea of making a movie with no pay. But with people who are actors, I allow them to use it on their resume or portfolio.

I was gonna have a friend do the one part like I said, but now he just seems like is avoiding me at all costs.

And someone on here said they can't use it on their resume or portfolio, unless your credited by a school. Is that true? Since you prolly know more about that type of thing they do.

Oh I don't know about that. If it is true, then I have been very deceptive. Haha.

Yeah, but work great for lighting up a dark area. You can buy a book about gorilla film making. Which is all about filming with what you have and so on.

Like War Party was saying, ask people who are not actors. They are always more open to stuff.

Yeah, I know Robert Rodriguez has a book about that.

I asked some people at work, but they said they were busy with other stuff. That or just didn't wanna be in it.

What about anyone outside of work?

Or maybe write something where you don't need people to be in it. Just you.
Write something around things that are available to you.

Sounds like you really need to drive. Would solve alot of problems for you.

Only person I knew in my life that was a friend blew me off and decided he didn't wanna help me.

I don't think I could ever do something with just myself.

I'm sure driving would solve all of my problems, but that's not gonna happen right now.

Anyone working on anything? Unfortunately me and my brother had to shut down our shoot for our 15 minute film. We filmed about 75% of my script and while reviewing the footage we filmed, we both agreed that we could do a lot better. A lot of **** went wrong during the shoot, mostly with actors and only being able to film once every one or two months. So I'm regrouping, doing some tightening on the script, and have a four day shoot planned in April. But in the mean time, I have a bunch of five minute shorts I'm going to film with only two or three actors. Will definitely post for you guys to see.

I thought of another idea for a movie while I was in bed the other night tying to get to sleep. It be one of those shaky cam type movies.

Well, this guy has to stay in a place that some say is haunted of whatever, still haven't figured out where. But he has to take this video camera and record everything and 5 other people will be in there.

And its his job to keep them safe, cause there is 10 million at stake for him here and everytime one of them say dies, he loses 2 million and if all 5 die he gets no money and he's trapped there forever.

He's more a less a jerk who cares only for himself and the moral is he needs to learn to work with others if he wants the money and to survive.

After watching what is new as Paranormal Activity.:csad: I think anyone could make one of those films and make ir better and no so snooze boring.
