Fire and Ice live action remake by Robert Rodriguez

You know, as Rodriguez is very keen on doing "nostalgia"(mosy notably in "Planet Terror" and "Machete"), for the posters of "Fire and Ice", they could look like the magazine covers of the 70's and early 80's titles like Savage Tales, Bizarre adventures, or Creepy and Eerie, etc... That same type of format:

It appears we missed this update from Robert Rodriguez back in April regarding Fire And Ice: http://latino-review.com/2012/04/24/robert-rodriguez-lines-fire-ice/

“We’re almost done with the script; we’ve got it pretty much 70 percent there. I’m really excited about that one.
“The whole idea is to make it using the technology I used for Sin City because I want it to be as if you stepped into one of [Frank Frazetta’s] paintings

“I think the timing is going to work out just right, and we’ll have a finished script in the next month or so. So we can start lengthier preproduction and we can go right into preproduction — well, we’re actually in preproduction, sort of, or we’ve been doing a lot of the previsualization. But that would be the next thing after Sin City.

“I’m really excited about that. For Frazetta fans, this will be the ultimate tribute to what he did, and inspired so many people. I think it’s going to be pretty powerful when people see it.”

I'm sensing this is how they should have gone with John Carter maybe.

Hmmm, who knows? With John Carter, I think, it was most important to capture first and foremost the spirit of Edgar Rice Burroughs, and I think it did.

Now, with Fire And Ice, being an absolute Frazetta creation, that's how this should definately be done. Can't wait!!

Some of the complaints of John Carter was some of the visuals. Not the CGI, but the design of mars, and I feel that it would have benefited if it had that surreal Frazetta look. Instead, the makers actually criticized Frazetta, touting his art as dated.

I don't know if anyone has seen these other conceptual designs for the film:

Is Rodrigues directing this or just producing? Assuming it even gets made, that is, after all Rodrigues is attached to it lol.

Well, the term "directing" has been mentioned, so, I guess we have to assume he will. Still, you never know with him. All we know so far is that this will be his next project after Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

I know it's typecasting and obvious, but if they can get Christina Hendricks as Teegra, that would work. I won't lie...Kim Kardashian already has the look, but her acting skills...gah.

Me and my homeboys were watching " Fire and Ice " the other day and we all agreed that the only two people who could play Teegra in her epic microkini is either Kim K, or Nicole " CoCo Austin ". Granted they can't act worth ***t, but " Fire and Ice " was better known for it's visuals than it's acting. And we all agreed that bad ass Dark Wolf was pre-historic Batman, LOL

I can see Rodriguez going for Alexa Vega(Machete Kills) as Teegra:

Unfortunately Conan & John Carter both sucked. Hopefully that won't hurt this film's chances of success.

I'm still totally looking forward to this movie. RR either makes movies that are really good (Machete, Predators, Sin City, etc) or utter crap (any of the Spy Kids movies). Generally, if it's a mature/adult geared film he does really well. Anything geared towards kids or families tend to be crap. This film isn't a kids show, so it should be good.

As for casting? I can deffinitely see Danny Trejo bein cast as Dark Wolf. As for Teegra, maybe Michelle Rodriguez? Not sure about the rest of the characters though. I'll have to give that some thought. Just please, dear God, do NOT cast Jeremy Irons as the villain. He just does not take roles in sword & sorcery films seriously.

I doubt this gets made. I heard now he's interested in or just bought the rights to the Heavy Metal reboot. Dude needs to pick one project and stick to it.

Just because he's expressed an interest in acquiring the rights to the Heavy Metal reboot, or has just acquired the rights, doesn't mean he's gonna drop everything and start work on that project. He's already got the rights to Fire & Ice, and has a working script made (at least according to the articles posted earlier). Seems to me he's pretty committed to getting this done. Heavy Metal might just be his next project, once Fire & Ice is in post production.

Something that Rodriguez should do, in order for this to have potential appeal is, as he usually does in his films, cast some "big names" in F&I, something that probably could have helped Conan The Barbarian and John Carter do better commercially. Still, I don't see John Carter being a burden on this remake. Conan maybe, but not JC.

Danny Trejo as Darkwolf? I can see why he would be suggested, but I personally would prefer Sly Stallone, Ray Stevenson, or Mickey Rourke. Speaking of Stallone, something that might be of interest is that the artist behind these conceptual images(Justin Sweet) stated that Rodriguez showed one of the pictures of Darkwolf to Stallone. Hmm?!!

Since Nekron, the villain in the film, is supposed to be a young guy, I very much doubt Jeremy Irons will be cast. So, no need to be worried. Maybe James Franco or Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Nekron.

As Darkwolf is a secondary character, it's not 100% necessary to cast a really big name in the role. But if he were to, I'd prefer Mickey Rourke over Sly Stallone. Nothing against Stallone, I enjoy his movies for the most part. But I just feel Rourke is the better fit.

I like the suggestion of James Franco as Necron. I liked him as Harry Osborn in the Spiderman films. Joseph Gordon-Levitt I find to be overrated. Not a bad actor per say, just not as good as everyone says he is.

As for the hero of the film (I forgot his name), either Chris or Liam Hemsworth maybe? Chris might have had his fill of fantasy movies, but Liam hasn't had as much success as his brother and would likely jump at the chance to take the role.

And I still say Michelle Rodriguez as Princess Teegra.

True. However, there are many fans(particularly many users over at the Robert E. Howard site) who would like to see Darkwolf have much more to do in the remake, since he's considered the most popular/coolest character in the animated film. I guess we'll see what happens on that.

Rourke would be an excellent pick. Ray Stevenson would be my top pick.

...and if not Darkwolf, I think Stallone could be an adequate King Jarol(Ruler of Firekeep).

Larn is his name. In my mind, Larn should be of a "lean" physique. Kinda' like Marc Singer in Beastmaster. Chris Hemsworth seem a little too big to me. Stephen Amell from Arrow is someone I see fit for this part.

And I still say Michelle Rodriguez as Princess Teegra.

She is downright hot and a solid actress, no doubt, but I think she may be a little too old for Teegra. Teegra should be someone in her early 20's. It has to be someone who looks relatively more "innocent".

I just came across this 1991 Q&A of Roy Thomas, who, with Gerry Conway, wrote the script for the original Fire and Ice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et9CbvE5BpU

According to Thomas, Ralph Bakshi decided to shoot only 78 minutes of the 2-hour script he and Conway had written, which as a result made certain elements in the film incomprehensible(like the statue of Darkwolf that Larn finds in some ruins). Their script also explained the relationship between the characters(such as Darkwolf being the father of Nekron).

So, I think this can be definately be a remake with much room for improvement, not just with technology, but also storywise.

I've never seen Arrow, so I don't really know what Stephen Amell looks like. I agree with you that Larn should be more "Marc Singer-like" in physique. Chris Hemsworth might be a bit too big for the role, but his brother Liam I believe is smaller and leaner. So you'll have the same good looks, a recognizable name, but a leaner looking Larn.

I just recently watched Fire & Ice on You Tube (and by recently, I mean about a year ago). Teegra didn't seem all that "innocent" to me. Especially when she was seducing the beast men so she could escape. She's supposed to be strong willed and stubborn, wanting to be treated as an equal to her brothers in matters of State. And while Michelle Rodriguez might be in her 30's, she still looks young enough to play someone in her 20's. Remember, it's called acting. You don't have to be the same age as your character, you just have to look like you are. Hell, Neve Campbell was almost 30 when she starred in the first Scream. And look how well that movie did.

Yes, ultimately this is what it can come down to.

Count me as one of the many fans who perceived Darkwolf as the best character in FAI. As for casting, I think Mickey is a solid choice but would also want to have Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson read for the part. He has the name, physique and physicality to fill the panther cowl.

Liam is a great choice for Larn. You'd think Teegra would be easy to cast but no one immediately comes to mind. A young Sophia Vergara would have been awesome. I could be sold on Alexa though.

I love The Rock, but I don't know if he's quite right for the role of Dar Wolf.

As for Teegra, I have a suggestion that's a little "out there". Adult film star, Sasha Gray. Hear me out . . . I understand that she's trying to go legit as an actress. The adult films she's done (or at least the ones I've seen), have been the "classier ones" with actual scripts and plotlines (Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge comes to mind). She certainly wouldn't have any problems running around in that little blue bikini throughout the whole movie, and she'd look great doing it. Plus, she's still pretty young. She started on adult films when she was 18, and that wasn't all that long ago. She's at most 25 now, plenty young enough to portray a fresh, young, princess Teegra.

Javier Bardem is another actor, I think, could pull off Dark Wolf. Excellent actor, brooding look, and has that very deep voice. Just give him the same people who trained Gerard Butler for 300 and presto.
