Fire and Ice live action remake by Robert Rodriguez

I have a funny feeling that in real life James Franco dresses like Nekron around his house.

Lena Headey as Queen Juliana

Done!

Good picks!

Other potential choices for Juliana:

Demi Moore

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Those are some pretty good pics too. Especially Catherine Zeta-Jones. Her role in Traffic was a mixture of elegance and diabolic strength. That's what the role of Juliana needs.

That's why I chose Lena Headey for the role. Her role in 300 was a mixture of elegance and strength, and I think she can do a good job of being sinister as well.

Out of all of Robert's projects, I think this excites me the most. If he can convey the 'painting look' of the original, like paint strokes in the backgrounds, etc..then this could a delight.

Very much looking foreward to the look of the film, but I'm also curious as to how Rodriguez will update the story of the original. I know that he is a big fan of Robert E. Howard, and I wonder if he'll try to bring that flavor of Howard's writing in terms of theme(barbarism vs civilization), dialogue, the supernatural, and grittiness , since the "barbaric" genre of Fire and Ice is one that Howard was a master of.

Elements from Howard yarns like "Spears of Clontarf", "Lord of Samarcand", "The Night of The Wolf", "The House of Arabu", "Spear and Fang", "The Valley of The Worm", and maybe a Conan yarn like "Beyond The Black River", could appropriately be used as models in a concept such as that of Fire and Ice.

Since Nekron pretty much only wears a pair of shorts and a purple bath robe, I'd say that's a very strong possibility.

Bardem is an inspired casting choice for DW but I'm not convinced that the character requires that level of acting chops. However, the actor does need to convincingly chop the $h!t out of some Necron's Dogs.

I hope the character of DW doesn't stray too far from the strong silent type. I want to see the barbaric equivalent of Yojimbo, the Man with No Name or Snake Plisken - the actors who played them "spoke" with mannerisms and physicality vs. lots of dialog.

Still pulling for The Rock or a big actor who can move with deadly and efficient grace.

The Rock could definately be a great asset to the project, especially in terms of marketing. His name alongside Robert Rodriguez' could be seen as a tour de force.

Now that you mentioned those arch-types, another character that came to mind is Harmonica from Once Upon A Time In The West. We didn't know the background Harmonica or his motives until the end of the film. That's something that could be appropriate for Darkwolf in this remake.

Darkwolf is still alive at the end of FAI, right? I think it would be cool if this movie is hit for Darkwolf to get a spinoff where he's the star.

Man... you're on to something with that. If they choose to include (the previously left out plot twist) that DW is Necron's father it should be revealed as close to the end as possible. Just saw that The Rock has been nabbed for the Hercules tentpole. Not sure he would do two Fantasy films. Sadness.

A prequal explaining why there were temples built to honor him (remember Larn came across those ruins with DW motifs on them?) and why his battle fury was able to cancel out Necron's power (Necron owned everyone else). Throw in how he is betrayed/tricked/seduced by Julianna with her ending up pregnant with Necron and you have the makings for a pretty cool fantasy yarn.

Dave Batista for the God damn Darkwolf!

I dunno. I like Dave, but I'm not sure if he has the acting chops to pull off the character. The build, yes, but the acting ability?

I am very curious as to if Rodriguez will use the original Roy Thomas/Gerry Conway script which 42 mins. of it were not shot for the original film.

^ Couldn't hurt to at least start there. That said, it wouldn't hurt my feelings to make this a Robert E. Howard homage in terms of script with a Frazetta love note for art direction.

^ Absolutely. This project is one that could have the potential to pay homage to Howard in a way that none of the Conan films have.

Wanted to share some custom figures that I was commissioned to make. Just finished them this weekend. I've done Darkwolfs for several fans but this was the first time I did a set of the three main characters.
