Fire and Ice live action remake by Robert Rodriguez

I've always thought what made go 'meh' on Disney's John Carter was the lack of Frank Frezetta imagery. Of course, it could never be as exotic (or naked) but still. Frank's art depicted something masculine, pulpy and surreal. I liked that. But when Andrew Stanton declared Frezetta's art as outdated, my heart was kinda broken.

OMG seriously. Talk about squandered potential. How in the hell he though plain ol Utah looked more interesting than this I'll never understand.

heh just noticed that middle pic looks like a bat symbol on John Carter's chest. Bruce Wayne of Mars. :p:up:

I liked how the sky of Mars is total space; or just pink/purple. Love it.

So do we REALLY think that they'll have the microkini in a movie? Skimpy clothing sure, but that skimpy? I'm not so sure that Sony would allow that, especially if they want this film to appeal to a wide audience. Heck John Carter covered up Dejah (Lynn Collins was still awesome).

Well, a lot of Frezetta is like Heavy Metal magazine; un-PC and proud of it. I don't know what Sony is aiming for though.

I think the best they could do is a Princess Leia style deal where she's in it once in a while but they hand wave it by saying it's ceremonial garb or whatever and the rest of the time she's semi covered. Carter himself could get away with being shirtless for the bulk of the flick ironically.

I had that poster hanging in my room for years....ah, the memories. Frazetta ruled the universe.

I remember when artist Ken Kelly first started doing covers....people complained that he was ripping off Frazetta.....then found out that he was is nephew and the only person taught by Frank. Got to meet Ken a couple of years ago, nice guy.

On the original FIRE AND ICE DVD there is a Frazetta documentary....highly recommend people look for it and watch it.

Well it's not like Dejah was wearing a Burkha in that movie. She was still showing a lot of skin. It just wasn't quite a ridiculously tiny an outfit as it's been depicted in other places (didn't she walk around stark naked a lot in the book or am I misremembering that)? Basically, Disney compromised.

This sounds awesome...but Robert Rodriguez is incapable of making a good movie now. In fact, I don't think he even cares to anymore.

I'd be a lot more excited if this were in another director's hands.

Whatever the thoughts may be on Sin City:ADTKF and Machete Kills, Robert's involvement with the two tv series From Dusk Till Dawn and Matador, I think shows that he does care about turning in good material.

Gawd I hope this movie doesn't get toned down in the nudity and blood and violence department!

But he's not consistent, you see.

..on a related subject, for those who haven't seen it, here's the full 2013 Wizard World panel in Austin with Rodriguez and Harry Knowles on everything Frank Frazetta, including Fire and Ice test footage, video of Robert with Frank Frazetta at his museum in 2004, and Frank Miller's reaction to Frazetta's paintings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfBeyP5ZiRk

I hope he does something similar to Sin City and makes this as Franzetta as possible, and I love that he's working with Bakshi who's one of my favorite directors.

...speaking of Ralph Bakshi, whatever money he makes out of this, I hope he uses to finally do his "Wizards"-sequel.

I'm thinking he may try to finish Last Days of Coney Island.

True. Forgot he is still working on that.

Anyway, these are Frazetta images I think could well be used/ make a nod to in Fire and Ice:

I recommend y'all go take a peek at Genesis Rodriguez instagram, she would make a great Teegra. :oldrazz:

Her facial structure would work pretty well for Teegra amongst other things. :wow:

Some similarities to Eternia.

I would rather go and see Masters of the Universe than this.

I don't see why you couldn't see both.;) Still, the irony in this is that Frank Frazetta's paintings influenced the concept of He-Man a great deal.

She'd be good indeed.

Also, another choice for Larn(besides the likes of Stephen Amell or Charlie Hunnam) could be Sebastian Stan.
