If myself and friends are constantly being jeered, ostricized and beaten for our heterosexulaity......yeah I think it might occupy my thoughts considerably more than if my sexual preference didn't offend the masses......your argument is apples and oranges

---be that as it may and back to the original argument, no-one ever heard of a sick day?[/quote]

You're not kidding are you??

Nope...if the guy was adamant about not being in the parade he could have called in sick....the fire chief still acted poorly but the fact is, he didn't have to subject himself to it!

Rarely does much floor me......but this.....

So you're trying tell that these men should have used up sick time (that they are entitled to and that is LIMITED) so they could avoid being forced into something that they should not have been forced into in the first place????
banghead.gif

So when they really do need the sick time (for a real illness) they are a day short.

Do you have a job?? Just curious....

Dude take a pill......do I have a job?...of course I have a job....I've been a controller for a local railroad for many years.......not sure what your point is......

Where in your little article does it say these firefighters would have lost their jobs had they refused to march in the parade?...it doesn't say....in fact it goes as far as saying that in past years the two admitted that attendance was not mandatory....

...don't get me wrong....if the ***** made them go....they have a gripe and should most certainly file suit....but as a f*&%ing adult you have to take some part in the mitigation of any wrong doing against your person....jesus dude.....if I go to a restauarant and am accidentally pricked on the hand by a waiter.....and I decide not to get it checked and two weeks later I end up losing the hand....is the restaurant liable for the loss of my hand??

This litigious society we live in is just beyond ridiculous....

My point is "if you are employed, then you should know that you don't waste precious "sick time"!! THAT'S MY POINT! You might really get sick! Especially firefighters!!! I mean...did I really have to spell that out for you?

Harassment isn't always the "threat" of losing your employment! It also includes "creating a hostlie work environment for your employees!! Read the article!! That was a hostile environment!! And they got sexually harassed as well!

What???

Dude.....where are you? What the heck does restaurants, waiters and pricking your hands have to do with employees being ordered by their boss to attend an event that violated their moral convictions!!!??

This litigious society we live in is just beyond ridiculous....

This is the only thing you've said that's true. But in the case of these firemen, they have merit!! This is not a "Whups! I spilled hot coffee in my lap" scenario!

Nobody should force their way of life or ideals on anyone period. What this person did was completely unprofessional and a real setback for people of that lifestyle who ever want real respect from the community. She should get fired or suspended for abusing her position.

They have merit because they're firemen?...or is it because the fire chief is gay that she lacks merit?..because I mean all gays are evil right?...you truly believe an injury took place here that warrants these guys "breaking the bank"??....making fun of the guy's freaking winkie is an injury to you??....really??

I mean if you can prove the woman "commanded" these men to be there than by all means....ensure she's reprimanded....but these guys "breaking the bank"...lol....I'm at a loss

I'm done with this.....I should have read the entire thread before I decided to respond to you...then I would have had a better picture as to who it was I was responding too....

...and if it matters and since you asked...I'm from Canada....

No....they have MERIT because of what was done to them.

And she should be reprimanded! If this was reversed, she would be fired.

First off, it's completely wrong she made them attend, it should be volunteer stuff. Secondly, I had no clue these gay parades were so raunchy...wow. I thought the parade was to show your support and for gays to display their pride of who they are. Not to act like a wild pack of sexually crazed nuts. When heterosexuals do this I hate it, and just as bad when homosexuals do it.

Here's the bad part about it:

When there were black civil rights movements, there were white movements designed to stop civil rights that, however demonized they were, talked about things such as white pride (such as the KKK and WASP organizations).

Now, you can say that some Christian fundamentalists want to stop the gay movement, but do you actually see something called "Straight Pride"? I mean, come on. Are there any (stupid or not) "Straight Pride" parades that have men and women dressing up to accentuate their straightness or make lude gestures regarding their heterosexuality and harass a bunch of women? What's the difference between homosexuality and heterosexuality? Because **** like that would never be generally accepted when it comes to heterosexuality.

Parades, no. But I've certainly seen enough "straight pride" groups try to get started. A few months ago, there was a school in Chicago that shut down a group of kid's plan for a "Straight Pride" day, right after the National Day of Silence. However, since they never actually said what would encompass a "Straight Pride day," their attempt for "Stompin' on Queers" day was throughly whacked.

No, but you do see women being harassed near construction sites. You do see them being harassed in bars by drunks. You do see them being harassed at Fraternity/Sorority mixers. At tailgate parties. In the workplace. If you don't think heterosexual men wear their "hetero manliness" on their sleeves for all to see like a friggin' badge then you have to honestly be blind. I have seen, met and known so many hetero men who's every waking moment is designed around getting laid it is unreal. To insinuate that homosexuals have cornered the market on that kind of behavior is amusing. :)

Yeah, if the lawsuit did go through, it would have made more cases of hot women going to court asking for damages since the whole f**kin' world has wolf-whistled at her and pinched her ass. :o

Oh, and I found an article that adds a few details that I haven't read anywhere else:

1. Members of the SDFD have, in fact vollunteered to go to the annual parade for over 15 years, and they didn't this time because of personal reasons, including a death in the family.

2. Spectators in and around the parade have conflicting accounts of the parade's handling of the fire-men--some said they were hailing them as heroes, others say the already spoken hose-wordplay. Were the former saying this to cover their own asses? Possibly. Was the latter made up or made exponentally worse by the Christian Thomas More Law Center? Also possibly.

Here's the article: http://suicidegirls.com/news/culture/22068/

That is so true. Why would any group of people be proud of what is basically a soft porn parade??

firefighters often have alot to do with the processions at mardigras... which you could also call a soft porn parade. be careful. people are proud of many things... as im sure you are. some people find these actions offensive, and some people find religious oppression, bigotry, and certain kinds of intolerance just as disgusting. :cwink:

If any gays touched my crotch I would punch them hard.

none of the firefighters were touched...

reread the article, they were exposed to people to people who were grabbing their own crotches (or possibly each others in the parade i dont know...) the article is a bit misleading in that sense , but it wasn't the firefighters, that would constitute asault my freind and you can bet anyone who didnt want that to happen would have brought charges against thier 'attackers'.

and memphis, i have asked a family member of mine who is a firefighter about this, who is as far as i can tell :) straight as an arrow, not that it matters much

he said that the chief occasionaly opts for the company to participate in things without the consent of the rest of the firefighters... perhaps this time, the chief may have made an error in judement concerning the ability of her firefighters to handle the situation, but she is not doing anything new.

i fail to see how these firefighters have any grounds to sue...

i will say though the chief is a bit unwise, in her attempt at trying to incorperate, she may well have done more harm... i wold expect more from a fire chief, or at least hope for more anyway.

i joined bibleforums.org on Monday, 1 am. and when i woke up, 1:30 pm i was banned. Reason: Trolling. I made 3 posts. One on a thread about people saying they don't want to be close friends with non-Christians in, which i said "I have friends of many faiths and we discuss religion in a adult fashion. Also it's good to keep friends of different faiths because they may change the way you see the world."

Another on one about a teenager who is looking for an accountibility buddy for his homosexuality: "It isn't really healthy to supress those feelings, a lot of those kids who get sent to those homesexuality rehibilitation camps end up killing themselves. You are what you are, it isn't harming anyone so why change yourself?"

And I made a thread about what I think should change about AA, basically that it is there to convert people into Christians, and that it shouldn't be inforced for people. I also said it degraded the people in the program saying that they have a disease and that there is no way to control it.

Basically they're a bunch of facist pigs. I don't think that could be considered trolling. Is having a different opinion than everyone else and expressing that opinion trolling?

that's bull****. it doesn't sound like you were being an instigator, just posting respectful comments that differed from the others.

Actually, since the mod's have confirmed that he's the poster formerly known as celldog, it's pretty safe to say that he HAS been banned for expressing his views on here (though celldog did so in an extremely antagonistic manner).

Yeah that's what i thought. What's the point of having a forum if only one side of the spectrum is heard? and on joining you have to say if you are Christian, non-Christian, or not Christian but looking to become one, and if you choose Christian you are allowed in all the forums and if you aren't you are limited to certain forums.

I'm reading through bibleforums now. Jesus Christ. You know the response I see the most, laughably? "I don't understand what you mean by that."

Then there's this one guy who posts in blue text that types oddly enough a lot like cellslim here, sounds like him, and sounds like a jackass. Tough-guy Christian. Haha.

I know right? And these people are Christian, like, really Christian. Not those ones who go to Church just out of the habit, but the ones that love church. They're pretty closed minded, it's very scarey if they became the majority.
