SUPERMAN RETURNS UPDATE

Superman Returns, transferred to film just hours earlier, was given its first screening for the press Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Executive producer Chris Lee introduced the film, noting that it had just been put to bed and that some minor tweaks -- i.e. color corrections -- still might be made.

He also asked that the press not leak spoilers -- including a major one not in the film's novelization.

After the screening, members of the press were given a preview of the 3D IMAX treatment the film is getting.

IMAX president of filmed entertainment Greg Foster said Superman Return's "DNA" was ideal for the 3D treatment. The first trailer, which was done in 3D to show director Bryan Singer, and examples of the film's coming-at-you action were shown.

"We showed this to Chris Lee, Brandon (Routh) and Kate (Bosworth) and they were jumping up and down and giving each other high fives," Foster said.

In other notes:

* Screenwriters Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty have small roles in the film.

* The film seemed to generate a positive response, with applause at the end.

Sounds good! :)

I don't normally buy into first screenings. The 'press' usually consists of critics who are generally more kind to this type of film, genre, actors, its predecessors if it has any, etc.

Gee, I wonder what THAT could be?!?

Matt, these are the last days for your negativity :D

Critics destroyed DVC after the first screening (with even a bad reaction at the end).
The only problem is if the report is true or not :)

Funny, when critics were claiming the script was bad, the argument was "CRITICS DON'T MATTER"...if I don't like the movie, I'll say so, regardless if everyone on earth says otherwise. If I do like it, I'll say so, regardless of if everyone on earth says otherwise.

Fair enough.

I don't remember any script review.
Moriarty said that he had few doubts about a budget draft, not that "was bad". He didn't talk about the quality of the movie. He was very honest.
UGO Review was a fake review made by a classic internet moron, probably a marvel or smallville fanboy.

And...even if the critics of "first screenings" are generally more kind to this type of film, this only means that the general public of teen-agers and comics fans will probably like the movie.

According to you, a bad reaction would be a "bad sign", a good reaction isn't a good sign...
Tell us what we have to do. :D
We have to wait for the reviews?
We have to wait for the b.o. results?

Tell us, we haven't any problem.
We have "lived "with the "negativity" since 2001, 2 more weeks will not hurt us ;)

Nice to see you claim to have a positive outlook. Let's see how it is in 2 weeks.

Personal opinion: I think you've already made your judgements on it.

And dont forget the equelly fake "positive" review that was posted on AICN. Probobly done by a well meaning, but dumb and misguided, fan.

I figure the REAL screening reviews will be popping up over the next few days.

The problem here is that this really doesn't tell us much about the film. They could have been high fiving because they accomplished a very good children's film. They could also have been high fiving because the special effects looked good...

Who knows.

I'll still wait until I hear from people with similar taste to mine that post here.

^Newsflash - Superman for the most part, is for children. But with Bryan Singer aboard, I'm sure it's taken on a more serious tone. This isn't Batman you know.

I'll have my review up late June 27th......:o

I will have to stay away from the boards pretty soon, when the reviews start coming out. I have been spoiled enough already.

The difference is a script is not a completed film. It was also, if you remember , not a finished script but a budget draft. now that people have seen the film and can judge the film as the finished product., perhaps you won't (Not pointing you out,Matt, i'm saying this to everyone) be so qucik to jump on every little peice of disinformation.

the 'spoiler'. If it's the kid being Superman's offspring, then what's the surprise? When you read the book, you get the idea and it's done subtle enough that it doesn't feel cheap. I doubt it can be that, unless the producers are underestimating the fanbase's intelligence..

Not the fanbase - the casual moviegoer.

It that is in fact that case, than it will be a suprise to the casual moviegoer and they wouldn't be as angry as some of the fans would be.

I'm just saying that anyone who read the book will get the idea that Jason is Superman. WHat I liked about the book was it was lowkey. If they make it too obvious in the movie ("Superman Jason is your son!"), then I don't believe. I believe in the moto of "Less is more".

No, I know - and it's frustrating that Singer might produce a film which may be enjoyed by the masses while alienating the people who have most passionately campaigned for a new Superman film.
